Reena's POV
I woke up with a slight headache today. I don't know why because I didn't drink much last night. I rolled over on my bed to see two empty bottles of wine. Or maybe I did drink a lot. I groaned in frustration realizing I have a meeting today. I don't understand why I do this to myself. I knew I had something important to do the next day and I still end up doing something stupid.
Oh well.
I rolled out of my bed and walked into my bathroom. I looked in the mirror to see my black hair all over the place. I looked down at the sink to see little pieces of hair everywhere. My frustration started to grow as I grabbed my brush. Every time Eric shaves he for some got damn reason always uses my sink. Then he leaves the mess for me to clean up. But news flash, I'm not a f*****g maid!
I brushed my hair making it straight and then put it into a bun. I really never wear it down because if I do I feel like people will start to get too comfortable with me. I brushed my teeth and all that stuff and applied a little bit of makeup.
Once I was finished I got dressed in my usual pencil skirt and a button up blouse. I went downstairs to find my husband sitting on the couch on his phone. I rolled my eyes seeing as he has all this damn free time but can't take twenty seconds out of his day to wipe off his hair on the sink. "Good morning baby." He said as he smiled his one in a million smile. I did a little twitch with the side of my lips trying to pass it off as a smile and walked into the kitchen.
Unfortunately he followed and hugged his arms around my body. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband, I really do, it's just him playing in that movie seriously got to his head. Now he thinks he's too good for everyone. I know he loves me and he proves that to me everyday. But man he's annoying.
When we first got married about fifteen or so years ago, he knew what kind of person I was. Everyone told him not to marry me because I 'have no heart' or because 'I don't care about anyone', but the thing is, the people who said those things don't know me. No one has.
But he was decent and he understood my boundaries so I gave in.
He kissed the side of my cheeks and kept going until he got to my neck. I knew exactly where this was going and for some reason it made me pissed. That's when I remembered why I was drinking last night. He came home pretty late last night, and in all honesty I was horny but he was tired. For some reason this made me pissed.
I pushed him off of me and grabbed my keys and purse. "What the hell Reena! I try to please you and you run off!" He yelled. I rolled my eyes instead of responding and walked out the door. I got into my car and groaned again seeing as I forgot to make some coffee. I just sighed and decided to stop at The Grind and get me one.
Once I got there the line was long as hell. I pinched the bridge of my nose to try and calm myself down. "Oh, good morning Mrs. Davis." I opened my eyes to see the brunette from yesterday. Uhhh, Harper. She had her hair in a ponytail and had some blue jeans and a red t-shirt on. But what caught my attention was the red pendent on her neck. I looked back into her eyes and for the first time I noticed they were grey. I smiled at this seeing as grey is my favorite color.
"Good morning to you too." She kept smiling as she looked over the line and then back at me.
"Are you okay? You seem a bit stressed." I was taken back by what she said. I thought I was hiding my annoyance pretty well. I crossed my arms starting to actually get annoyed with her.
"Yes I'm fine." I said blankly. She looked like what I said hurt her a little. She then looked down at her coffee.
"What type of coffee do you usually drink?" She asked. I scratched the side of my neck and she watched me do it
"English." She nodded her head and chuckled. I looked at her.
"What's so funny?" She shrugged her shoulders and I watched as she extended her arm. I looked down to see her handing me her coffee. "What?" I was confused.
"Take it. I can tell you hate waiting and I got the same thing. And don't worry about it, I'm not much of a coffee drinker myself." I slowly took the cup from her hand. She smiled at me and walked away.
"Ms. Jones." She turned back to look at me. "Considering you turned in your contract last night, how about you stop at my office so I can put you to work?" I watched as her lips formed a giant smile.
"I would be truly happy about that." She said trying to contain her excitement. I chuckled and shook my head.
"Meet me in my office in an hour." She nodded her head and jumped a little in excitement and walked out the door. I smiled at the young girl and looked down at the coffee. For some reason I wasn't pissed anymore.
********
I sat there in my office reading the same line over and over again. There was just something about it that just didn't seem right. "All that you are is everything." It seemed right but it also didn't. You see, I have written tons of books in my lifetime. And there is always this one thing that I get stuck on. I never have found a way to get by it so I just let it pass. But this time I can't.
I just groaned as I closed my laptop. Unfortunately my editor is out of town this week and can't help me with this, also, he can't proofread it. I don't like to re-read my work. Mainly because i wrote it and so I already know what's going to happen. Sounds dumb I know but it's the truth.
There was a knock on my door. "Come in." I yelled. I watched as the door opened and in walked the brunette from earlier. She had a small smile on her face but I could tell she was holding it back as best as she could. She closed the door and walked further into my office. "Have a seat." I said. She nodded her head and sat down. "Well I'm assuming you read over the entire contract?" Again, she nodded her head. "Okay then, I may ask you to come with me on trips but that probably won't happen anytime soon. Your main job is to set up meetings, take my calls, and arrange fundraisers, you know, all the assistant things. Do you have any questions?" She shook her. "Well then, welcome to hell." She chucked a little, making me stare at her even more than I was.
There was something about her that seemed different. It wasn't exactly something bad, but she's not like most girls. She's not all jumpy and girly. I mean, what she did at the Grind was a little girly but nothing out of the ordinary. I noticed that most of her style consisted of jeans and a t-shirt. "One last question." She leaned a little forward in the chair. "Remember what we talked about yesterday, about you hiding something?" She opened her mouth and then closed it.
"I mean, I'm not really hiding it I just-" I held up my hand.
"No, I'm just wondering. Is it something that's going to affect your work?" She cleared her throat and shook her head. "Good."
"So what are you working on?" She asked. I sighed as I looked at my computer.
"Just something for my next book." She chuckled, making me look at her. "What's funny?"
"Well judging by your face, I'm guessing it's not going well." I looked into her grey eyes and bit my bottom lip. Why is she acting like she cares.
"It's not." I said a little too coldly than I intended it to be. I watched as she straightened her back trying to be a little more professional.
"You mind if I check it out?" I shrugged my shoulders as I slid her my computer. She opened it and looked at it. "What is it about?" I sighed and leaned in my chair.
"Nothing too special." She smiled.
"I doubt that. Every single one of your books is amazing." She looked away from the computer and at me. I felt something inside of me light up. I cleared my throat and smiled.
"Thank you." She smiled at me and looked back at the computer. "But, it's a love story between three people." She nodded her head and started typing.
"What about this?" She pushed the computer across my desk. I took it and turned it around. All that you are is all that I'll ever need. I didn't even have to re-read the sentence to be flabbergasted.
"Wow." Was all I said. Her leg was bouncing out of nervousness.
"Do you like it?" She asked. I looked at her and nodded my head.
"I love this. Its- it's amazing." She smiled widely. I watched as she mentally had her little dance party. "How do you know how to do that?" I asked. I know that was kind of a vague question but I'm pretty sure she understood what I meant.
"When I was little I used to write stories all the time. It was what I did in my free time and I still do it to this day. So over time I started to learn how to accurately put sentences together." I nodded my head and studied the young brunette. "But umm, yeah." She cleared her throat as she noticed my eyes never left her.
I chuckled a little to myself thinking about a familiar person she reminded me of. "I have a meeting," she looked up at me. "In England in a couple of days. It shouldn't take more than a day and a half, and I know I said you wouldn't be traveling with me for awhile, but seeing as my editor is out this week, how would you like to accompany me?" I watched as her eyebrows kept going up and down making me laugh to myself.
"I would be honored." I smiled with my teeth, a thing I haven't done in a while. She smiled back and stood up. "So is there anything else for today?" I hummed trying to think of something.
"Yes, a few things actually. But let's get you settled in first." She nodded her head and smiled.
I could give her the office next to mine.
