In the present ~
Woah woah woah
“You mean she meet her teenage bully?”Frena asks as a eyes glittered with concern
Not teenage frena i replied rolling my eyes ,”More like adolescent”
“Potàto poTAto” she replied shrugging ??♀️
“They wouldn’t fight, would they?” I asked my mother hoping for a favorable answer when I knew all too well that it wouldn’t be so
Getting up from the sofa and strolling towards the center table my mom picked up a bottled water, opened it and took a few quiet gulps.
Oh yh how so not thoughtful of us
She had been talking for quite some time and she should be thirsty
Mom sits back down, her weight dropping a bit too much like her legs passed out and my brows come together while a series of steps form on my forehead… too much for someone my age even but I couldn’t care less right now.
“Are you okay momma?” I asked as i eyed her suspiciously observing her every reaction to catch her in a lie . All my mothers are like this, saying they are fine when they aren’t.
This time however she admits that she is not fine and is very tired.she adds that she could tell us all she knew that happened up to great grandma’s death but the rest of grandpa’s story which we didn’t know, we would have to inquire from our aunt.
Yes this story was going to be more about grandpa. Sure the mermaid Part had been cleared up but we wanted to know what happened up until great-grandma’s death
Some time in April 2018 when grandpa died at age 80 i was wallowing in self pity and asking why life had to be so cruel. Granted I didn’t feel too much pain myself because my heart had experienced greater pain than that …but the cried after watching my aunts and my grandmother break down in tears and grief .it broke my heart all over again. Later tho my family began to make fun of one another that very night! like they weren’t all broken a few hour’s ago .In the midst of all the story telling , fun making and mimicking was also when I found out that his (grandpa’s )mother died when he was 13 and the horrible way her burial went .Today i have a chance of knowing more details about my family and i am not going to let it slip. I have learnt the hard way that people wouldn’t always be there to serve as your memory or reference box so you have to gather your information and store them up yourself.
I decided to take my mom’s attention back into the story as subtly as I could
“Soooo she talked to her?”
“ yes!” My mother replied gingerly
“ she was a woman of peace, she always was” she added

I do not want to turn back,I don’t want to see her face but there’s no telling what that spiteful woman can do standing behind me . She’s a coward, it’s what’s she has ever been. How i see it ,only a coward would attack a person from behind when the person has not done so to them or even done anything wrong to begin with and does not even know that there is any sort of enmity or fight coming. so to avoid stories of gloom and having no other choice i turn to see her…or should i say i turn around to watch her and make sure she doesn’t stab me or something because the way she called my name???? Gosh i can tell she still had hate towards me
Long time i say
“Not long enough” she replies and i cant agree more! But i say nothing about that
We weren’t kids anymore so i refused to act like one
I haven’t seen you around since i got back i tell her while trying to sound as friendly as I could although i am dreading this conversation
“I thought you would never return, so imagine my shock when i got back from my IN-LAWS and found out that miss Goddy was back in town” she said smirking
I can’t believe this woman! It’s been so many years yet she is sounding like a teenager! And not in a good way
The emphasis she placed on ‘in-laws’ didn’t go unnoticed but i let it slide
There’s no place like home i guess
I say as I start walking away but she follows me and out of caution i walk a reasonable distance from her while making sure she was at my side and not behind so from my peripheral view I could keep an eye on her or her faint shadow. I don’t want any more unpleasant surprises from her.
“This is nice”she says after a while, setting warning alarms off in my brain
I turned slowly to look at her in the eye with a raised brow
“You,me on a walk in the calm evening”
I’m sick of her stunts so I take the bull by it’s horn
Cut the crap Jann i say taking a defense stance i have learned while watching my husband, crossing my arms one over the other in front of me with my legs slightly apart .
Her eyes travel the length of my short frame, that smirk comes back and I know she just thought of a snaky reply “You’re still as quite as you used to be…but bold. Impressive” she uttered making my blood level rise but I wouldn’t give her the pleasure of letting it last as i let out a breath and roll my eyes. Not only am i tired from today’s work, i am also tired of seeing her face, hearing her voice and this unnecessary conversation.
It was nice to see you well and in good health i say hoping she gets the hint and leaves me alone but who was i kidding.Even if she did get the hint she wouldn’t let me off that easily
“Good health” she says “I didn’t think of that”
OH NO! When Jann thinks, it is never good .What on earth was she planning now
I give her a questioning look and I’m about to speak but as my lips part she cuts me off
“Why are you here Pera? Why DID you come back?”
I see red, RED but I’m an expert in keeping my anger to myself for as long as i can till I totally do away with it.
I don’t even know why I got infuriated but i did, I just did. How dare she ask me that. Is she the king or something?
Because i was born here, this is my home and I don’t need a reason to return to it….Do have a wonderful evening
This time i walk away with firm bold steps and thankfully she doesn’t follow me anymore
I got home in a sour mood which did not go unnoticed
“Hey sweetie the kids… hey…are you okay?” Imo says with concern in his brown, almost black eyes
Never better I replied sarcastically turning my head to look anywhere eyes but his face
Unfortunately my husband feels my pain and he is by my side in an instant placing both palms on my cheeks and turning my head slowly urging me to look at him
He made a nodding gesture to urge me to talk to him the gesture is sweet as it says a million words without so much as a sound being heard
He moves his head upwards, just the way one would if they were pointing at someone without using fingers.

Three months later
Mom is getting worse everyday no one is sure what is wrong with her but we can see getting weak everyday is all this a result of her previous paranoia? I begin to silently wonder deep within me,seems like all i do these day is think. My heart is heavy, after my brother she is my next best friend
