Is Love Just A Fantasy

Chapter 5

Evana

It was one day before she joined high school, her school uniforms and books had been bought, her dad had paid half of the needed school fees. She had finished all her house work, she went to the field, most families with livestock’s in the village leave a field in the farm where the animals can graze, if Evana is not at the river her second peaceful place is under the umbrella tree, in the field, there she escapes all her worries and create her own fantasy.  

Since she was young she loved reading, in her small mind she happens to know a lot about romance and love. She has read a lot of love stories where both men and women find true love and have an ever after. She would love to meet a great and good looking guy like the one she dreams of, and have a family where she will ensure to be a great mom to her children and wife to her husband. Through all her reading she had come to a realization that a modern woman should also work and help her partner as they build their family. The notion that a man should be the bread winner and the wife should stay at home taking care of the children and the farm was becoming outdated.

“I would love to have a romance love, a love that makes me have butterflies in my stomach, and makes my heart beats fast,” she thought to herself. She create scenario after scenario of how she would meet her love, one at a flower garden and there would be a wind that blows the petals , then her man would walk towards her with a smile. Another scenario it would be raining and she finds shelter under a building and another person join her a guy, there is lightning and thunderstorm, she is scared and the stranger would hold her hand and say, it’s okay am here with you, nothing will happen to you. His hands are very warm and her hearts starts beating fast. She comes back to reality and realizes that all those scenarios are from all the books she has read. “Damn these novels have made me go crazy, am living a reality not a fiction or novel,” she told herself.

Talking about feelings, love and s*x is a topic you cannot discuss with your parents, but Evana was lucky her grandma, Catherine, normally advise her about those topics. She had told her the importance of keeping her virginity until she is married, she had told her that it is a treasure and when given to the wrong person, no matter how much you want for it to return it is gone forever. But she had read many novel about romance and how girls enjoy making out with their men, saying it was the best thing that happened to their lives, so a romance love is what she wants and prays for all the time.

Then Danny’s face looking at her appears in her mind, their encounter, she wants to see him, she feels that desire and urge, she unties the sheep and makes the decision to go to the river its around 4 pm chances are she might get a chance to see him, too bad he is done with high school. “Am I going crazy? Why am I behaving like this?” she ask herself but it’s like her feet’s are out of control, she directs the animals towards the river, chances are she will meet him. “Just a glance,” she assures herself. She closes her fingers all the way to the river and back, despite how much she tries to tally and wish they meet it does not happen. However, unknown to her Danny saw her taking the animals to the river and climbed one of his favorite tree that helps him have a good view to the river side. “Hmm….what is wrong with her today she look tense, like she is waiting for something or someone, or maybe she is worried about her crazy mother,” thought Danny.

Evana goes back home with a sad heart, she really wanted to see him even from a far.

She gets herself busy in the kitchen, since Sara left home she does most of the cooking but she doesn’t complain because she loves cooking besides every girl in this family must learn how to cook, as that will be a good thing when they get married, that what their mother always tell them. That night she could not sleep she kept thinking about her first day in school, “Are the things people talk about true,” she thought. How form ones are given hard time by those in other forms as a way of welcoming them to high school. One thing she was happy about is that there will be no more full dress uniform, at least she gets to put on a skirt, and a tie. “there will be lessons like chemistry, biology and physics which are said to be science, she remembered how her sister came home during her first week in high school and started calling them “Musca Domestica,” which is the botanical name for a housefly, and thy would look at her and ask which language was that, and she would say, its biology, it means your cute and they would laugh with joy. Until one day as Evana was collecting her sister fallen book, she saw an image of a housefly and the botanical name.

That day she hated her sister soo much, how could she call them flies of all the insect, they are not dirty and filthy, she could not report her to their mother but Sara had to cook dinner for three consecutive days. So she was so eager to learn all those new subjects and also meet her friends.

She also remembered that most girls tend to have boyfriends when they join high school, but again she remembered the family rule no boyfriends, actually they should never have male friends or be spotted with one.

So she had to give up the idea of having a boyfriend in high school, she thought of Danny then pushed the idea away because, he was not in high school, and beside there are so many girls who want to be with him, and their parents won’t mind.

One last time she left the bed and went to make sure that everything was in order for her first day in high school, she prayed a short prayer and tried to sleep, it was not easy but finally she was able to get some sleep. When she waked up it was 6:30 am too early because on reporting day student were to report with their parents between eight and nine am, but she wanted everything to be perfect.  

Will her first day in high school be perfect?
