Chapter 10

Their last week as desk mates

Sometimes, it’s good never to let your guards down, Larry, was really enjoying his time in class always teasing Kerry every time he had a chance. He forgot all about Jersey, and every time he looked at their lockers she was looking at them, but he had seen her with Sam, so he didn’t think she was looking at him in particular.

Kerry too was starting to like how Larry was teasing her even if she could not tell him. She could remember how he offered to date her, in case she needed a boyfriend and she felt great. Larry was a good guy, and among who were considered most handsome in class, best part about him he was not chasing after other girls, and that made Kerry, so start thinking of really having a boyfriend.

The week went by well, Kerry and Larry were getting cozy with each other and she started seeing his silly jokes and stupid gesture’s being hilarious.  She was having a funny but good feeling, she really wanted him to keep teasing her. How naïve she didn’t realize she was falling in love with Larry.

Finally it was Friday, Jersey was really happy, she was laughing in her heart. She looked radiant, even Evana, noticed it and asked her.

“Jersey you look happy today, any good news?”

“No good news yet, but the day is young and I feel like something good might happen today, anyway it’s good to always stay positive,” she lied, because she was pretty sure that today was Larry and Kerry last day as desk mates in form one and maybe even never to be desk mates again.

On the other hand Kerry was feeling like something bad was going to happen, she told Larry about it.

“Came on Kerry, what can really happen when am with you,” he joked.

“At times I usually think we can have a serious conversation but you always joke, I really hate you now!” Kerry snapped.

“Woo woo….she confessed she loved me….” Larry teased Kerry, which made her turn away pretending to be upset.

“Wait a minutes, why did I feel so good when he said that I loved him…” Kerry was confused.

The day went by well and both of them, didn’t think about what Kerry was talking about, she also chose to ignore her sixth sense.

During the last period, Sam the class prefect stood up, Larry and Kerry were playing crosswords games, so they didn’t pay much attention to what was happening.

On the other hand, Jersey heart was beating so fast, at last she was getting what she wanted, Evana was not aware of anything she was busy trying to solve some math equations.

“Excuse me class, can I have your attention please,” Sam was now standing at front bending with his hands on the teachers table.

Larry and Kerry didn’t pay attention and kept on with their games, as they were trying to see who will outshine the other.

“I know that after students have chosen their partners, their sitting position cannot be changed unless there is unavoidable circumstance. That’s why due to unavoidable circumstances Larry and Kerry will stop being desk mates and Kerry and Jersey will exchange sitting positions.

That caught the two by surprise, Kerry was speechless, but Larry came back to his senses and asked, “Sam I know you are the class prefect, but can you please state what is the unavoidable circumstances you’re talking about?”

Sam was very confidence “Larry you know, coupling is prohibited in school even if most of us do it, but we do it with our partners consent, but you went overboard, you can’t force her to date you. Just let her be, and be glad that it’s me handling this and not the teacher.”

Kerry found her voice “Sam are you okay, damn Larry has never asked me to be his girlfriend, and we just close friends where did you hear that? ….oh and if he had asked I would have gladly said yes! She was really pissed off, and she just let her emotions take over.  That part of saying yes took Larry by surprise, and he raised his eyebrow, like really you would have said yes.

The whole class was taken by surprise and they were cheering for Kerry and Larry, at that time the class teacher Mr. Jody was passing by and he had the noise, and decided to check what was happening.

“What’s going on here?” Mr. Jody asked

Sam being the class prefect, had to answer, he looked at Jersey and she was looking at him with those pleading eyes. Even if he realized through Kerry that whatever Jersey told him was not true, he still wanted her near him, so for her he had to lie.

“Sir, it’s just that Kerry and Larry have been making lot of noise in class and as the class prefect I feel it’s better I separate them, I thought it’s a little matter whereby I don’t need to involve you.”

Mr., Jody was pleased that the class prefect was taking such responsibility as the head of the class, “oh, okay carry on, you surprise me you are good, if you keep up like this you will end up being the school captain.

The class was so quite most of them could not understand what just happened one minutes, the prefect said Larry was forcing Kerry into a relationship which she denied, then the next minutes they turn into the class noisemakers, jeez the two never talk in class.

“I would kindly as Kerry to pack her staff and change sitting position with Jersey,” without shame or remorse Sam had to keep up with his job.

That’s when it downed on Larry, he had been played in his own game by none other but Jersey, “Okay since you have made it clear you want to separate us, what about you give me another deskie and not Jersey,” Larry pointed out.

Jersey was waiting for that, “I also don’t think it’s a good idea to be his desk mate!” by looking at her she looked disoriented and unhappy, everyone could see that, but Larry knew it was just a mask.

“guys cool down, am the class prefect, and I have come to know each and every one of you and how they relate with each other, I know you two have unsettled issues that why I matched you so that you can solve your problems and learn to be good classmate, plus am sure there will be less talking and I can concentrate on other issues as the class prefect,” Sam was really smooth as a leader.

Mr. Jody was really impressed, “waoh I can say you have leadership spirit in your blood, am amazed, at games time hope you two will change sitting position.” After saying his last statement he left the class.

Kerry was still in shock, one minute he said Larry was forcing me to date him, next second we are the worst noise makers and Jersey is replacing her.

“Larry what’s going on am confused,” she told him, Larry didn’t know what to tell her but he had to say something.

“Always remember what I told you, if you ever want a boyfriend come to me I will be waiting here for you… also most of the time the enemy is always within….. You may not understand now but one day you will trust me.”  Those were Larry’s words to Kerry.

At that particular time, Jersey came to them with a fake sad face, she hugged Kerry “am sorry girl, I can believe Sam did this to you, how can he lie to the teacher that you the worst noise maker, if you like we can go back and talk to the teacher, and you can keep your sitting position.”

“It is okay, that’s nothing maybe he didn’t like me being behind him, and don’t worry am packing my stuff in a minute,” Kerry assured her friend.

Evana came over too, and offered to help her friends, she was also confused on everything, why did Sum spew all that nonsense in the presence of the teacher.

It did not take long and Jersey was so pleased to be seated next Larry, but Larry, did even give her a glance, he felt disgusted by her shamelessness.

He bend his head towards her and whispered “you can be seated next to me but you will never have me and neither will I ever see you as a woman!”

That was too cold, his words sent cold chills down her spine, but she was Jersey, she always gets what’s she wants.

Will Jersey ever get Larry?
