Chapter 11

Jersey and Sam

In class during break time, the girls are getting ready to go out and get some sun, Sam really wanted to talk with Jersey, since she started sitting with Larry she has changed. “I really have to talk to her, I don’t understand why she doesn’t even look at me, since that day,’ Sam inwardly talks to himself. He tries to think if there is away he has offended her but hmm he has been good, even overlooking her mistakes like coming to school late.

Evana, Kerry and Jersey are about to walk out of the door, Sam can’t hold it anymore, “hey Evana, and Kerry will you mind if I talk to your friend Jersey for a minute?

“Hmm Sam let me think about it…..oh you can have her for a day if you want no problem,” Kerry answered.

Evana laughs, but Jersey doesn’t see it being funny.

“So Kerry you are giving me away to Sam like am some cheap candies?” she asks looking angry, “hey chill, it was just a joke, nothing serious,” Kerry shots back.

“Girls I don’t want trouble, I just want to talk to her about, how she have been coming late to class lately these days,” Sam tried to ease the tension.

“Sam you said you know all of us by now, so I expect you know how Kerry like playing around even during serious issues, so just have your time with Jersey,” Evana didn’t like arguing, with her friends which has been happening a lot lately.

So Evana and Kerry left, and by looking at Jersey you could tell that she was not happy at all.

“Sam what are you trying to do, did you really had to do that?” Jersey asked.

“Hey why are you angry at me, which mistake did I commit, since you change your sitting position you have been treating me like air!” Sam told Jersey, he could not hold it in anymore.

“Oh that all you can think about Sam, I really didn’t think you are that shallow minded. Do you really want the whole class to talk about us, after the mess you created on that day,” Jersey asked him raising an eyebrow.

“What do you mean?” looking confused Sam asked.

“So you don’t get it, remember the excuses you made that day…. from forcing her to dating Larry, to being the best noisemaker, which the whole class knows is a lie?” she refreshed him mind on how he created trouble on the day he separated Kerry and Larry as desk mates.

“But that could not have happened if you were honest with me from the beginning,” Sam defended himself.

“Sam I really wonder how you managed to become the class prefect, you very naïve okay I wanted to be close to the man I love,” Jersey really didn’t want to waste her time with Sam, he was nothing compared to Larry, she actually hated the way he always stares at her, licking his lips like he wants to eat her any minute. He really looks like a hungry hyena, she thought, but again he has power in class she needs him.

“Did you say the man you love?” he was truly confused.

“Do I really have to explain that too, please Sam…………..anyway sitting behind you is enough for me currently, please don’t make it obvious, to others that we have a thing going on, okay,” oh God he is really thick than I thought, where did he get the courage to ask me out, Jersey thought.

Smiling like a child who has just been given his favorite candy Sam asked “So you wanted to be near me?

“Yeah if not you who else,” she winked at him touched his shoulder and left the class and went to look for her friends. Sam was left there standing like someone who have been struck by lightning, Jeeesus, she winked at me and said she wanted to be near the man she loved, which is me, oh yes she loves me. Behind the class at the far end corner Larry watched, and heard everything, throughout the little show he was holding his laughter. He cursed when he was trying to open the window and his watch slipped and felt, but at that particular moment he was really grateful that it felt. Poor Sam he is really a fool, he can’t even see he is being used and manipulated by that vixen, he thought, “Dear God even if one day I fall in love with a woman, never let me be dumb and stupid like Sam, who can’t even see the girl is messing with him,” Larry prayed out loud, he walked towards the boys washrooms while smiling.

Standing at the school tap, Kerry was really in deep thoughts, since her separation with Larry she has been thinking a lot, and reflecting back on a lot of things, one of the things she remembers a lot, is how from the start Jersey wanted to sit with Larry but, he refused. She felt that something was amiss, again she remembered that Monday Jersey was left behind, if her memory was good she saw her and Sam standing together, outside the class. But what confused her more were Larry’s words, “the enemy is always within,” what did he mean, she wondered.

Evana noticed, Kerry was spacing “Girl why are you spacing again, and it has been happening a lot lately,” she asked her friend.

“It’s just that things are really different lately, our friendship is not as it was before, I feel like Jersey is changing, or maybe I never knew her at all,” Kerry spoke her mind.

“Come on girl, I don’t think so, I think high school life is so overwhelming that’s why we feel different, and we are not used to this kind of life,” Evana tried to console her friend. “Plus Jersey will never betray us, you know that…came on we have survived eight years together, we only have four years here girl.” She pulled her as they walked towards the school roundabout, to get some sun.

Kerry just walked along with her friend but in her mind she made a decision to watch out on Jersey, she felt like there was something fishy going on between either Sam or Larry, but in her heart she hoped it was not Larry. All in all in one way or the other she was going to find out. On the other hand, Evana was really worried about her friends she wondered why they were starting to doubt each other, because a few days after the siting position exchange, Jersey, had asked her to be careful of Kerry she is not whom she seems to be on the outside.

Something was really not right, but all she wanted were normal friends but not some crazy girlfriends waiting for her to choose sides. “I have to fix this,” she thought to herself.
