Chapter 12

Meeting at the river

After two weeks of having her friends behave like two crazy co-wives trying to get their husbands attention, Evana could not take it anymore. Her life at home was hell, and here at school she could not find peace. Kerry and Jersey were always at each other’s throat, and through their words exchange she learned that both have feelings for Larry. She could not believe they were fighting over a guy who never seemed concerned about girls. The issue needed to be fixed before it was too late, she still needed her two friends but in their normal thinking capacity, not the two maniacs who have been following her around for the last two weeks.

Being the bigger person she believed herself to be, since it was Friday so she come up with the idea of playing a long with the girls she went to Jersey first.

“Hi Jersey, what are you doing this Sunday after church?” she asked her.

“Nothing, think will just be home,” Jersey answered.

“What about meeting at the river just us?”  She winked

Looking surprised “you mean just me and you, no Kerry?” Jersey asked.

Smiling “I know it’s crazy, but there is a first thing for everything, keep it between us, you know…” Evana left after the talk.

Woo, that was so easy, I can became an actress, she thought, now I have to talk to Kerry, hope she accepts to the meeting, and all of this will be over by Sunday.

As Evana and Kerry were having their evening preps, she saw an opening and she played her card.

“Kerry, what do you think if you and I meet, on Sunday, at our spot?” she asked her.  

“For real for real no Jersey just you and me?” Kerry asked, and she was really pleased by that idea. Evana was really pleased by herself. She felt that she deserved the award of the year for being the best friend.

Sunday came and Evana was really tensed, but deep down she was praying to help her two best friends make up and life will go back to normal. That was Evana, always hoping and wanting for everyone to be at peace with each other, but life is never like that, at times you can fix something for a moment but still it will break, the same with friendships.

So that Sunday Evana made sure to stay far from her mom at the back, so that she would be able to sneak and arrive at the meeting place, but fate had other plan in store for her. While she was preparing to leave, there was an announcement that all youth members should meet after church, so she had to wait.

By the time Evana was getting at their favorite spot, she could tell that things were not okay, and true to her thought they both came, on time.

“So Kerry, answer me what are you doing here?” Jersey asked.

Folding her arms on her chest, “Mcheeew which part of this river has your name, listen here… I can be anywhere I want at any time, do you have a problem with that?” Kerry asked.

Yes I have a problem, and the problem is that I don’t want to see your face,” Jersey, answered.

“Am sorry darling, because this face you’re stuck with it for the next four years, unless you ask daddy to change you school. Oh... Where will he take you? St. Francis Lare with your one hundred and fifty nine marks?” Kerry was ever quite but the kind to mess around with, so Jersey, was speechless, because her soft spot was touched. She did what she knew best, keep in her heart and carry a grudge.  

When Evana, reached their spot they were both staring at each other.

“I see both of you are already here,” she stated.

Jersey, felt like a fool, how she could not realize, she let Evana, the naïve one to play them, “so you planned all of this?” she asked.

Kerry too was shocked, is this really Evana how could she pull such a trick on them, she could not believe it. “Evana, you mean this meeting was not for the two of us only?” she asked.

“Okay, both of you can you let me speak too!... I had to apply the method to make sure that the two of you are here because it concerns all of us whatever the two of you are doing is affecting me too,” Evana spoke out.

Kerry “How is it affecting you both of us are talking to you!”

“That’s the point, don’t you realize most of the time you two want me chose side, which I can’t because I value both of you as my besties,” Evana enlightened them.

After spending most of the time convincing the two friends to bury their hatchets, and make up, Evana realized how, all the three of them have really changed. It was not like before where they used to tell each other everything. It’s like every one of them was having secrets of their own, they didn’t want the others to know. The case of Kerry and Jersey exchanging seats, was clarified with one of Jersey, great lies that Sam was the one who wanted her to sit near him because apparently he had feeling for her. In her defense she said she learned about it that day he asked her to stay back in class and that she was sorry if Kerry thought she was behind it all. When Kerry was asked about her comment, that she would say yes to date Larry, she didn’t see the reason of sharing her feelings with her friends so the answer was, it was a slip of the tongue and she has no feelings towards him he is a great friend.

“What about you Evana, lately I have spotted you with Leah a lot, what’s going on are you into her brother, that’s what people are saying around,” Jersey asked.

“Huh me and Danny? That’s new I have not heard about it yet,” Evana answered, she could not bring herself to telling them how she feels about him, beside she felt that they were also holding back onto something.

After the meeting by the river the girls were back together, but they were not as strong as they pretended to be their friendship already had cracks…..
