Chapter 13

The urge to see Danny

Evana and Leah friendship was getting better and better, even people around started to noticed, her mother too was not left out.

“Evana, I have noticed that these days you and Leah have become close,” her mother asked her as they were seated on the table having dinner.

“Yes, it started when she gave me her school uniforms, actually I never thought she could want to be my friend,” Evana answered.

“at least she a girl who have morals and also has a good reputation, you can be friends with her but don’t even think of getting closer to her brothers, because if I get to know of it I will boil you alive,” that was Evana’s mom they could not have a good conversation without her ending it with a threat. It’s like it is in her DNA after Sara left at times, she seems different and want to have a close relationship with her children but it doesn’t work for her. If any of the kids does something silly she becomes worse and whoop even those who had not done any mistake.

“Nothing of the sort will happen,” Evana answered.

Her mother was the second person to mention of Leah’s brothers, Jersey had asked if she was having a relationship with Danny too. She was confused and on top of that her heart was beating too first, that feeling of wanting to see Danny came back. Oh no it has been a while, but she felt like it was years, she was yearning to see him, to have a grips of him from a far, what is this feeling, she felt like she was losing it, how can you miss a person like this, miss just to see him and not talk to the person, be happy just seen him from a distance, her heart felt empty, a thing she had not felt before. School had kept her busy, but now that two people have mentioned him, she felt a need to see him. Yes I must see him, maybe if I see him my heart will be at peace.

Evana was no fool, she knew that, she had to come up with an excuse to not just meet Leah but also meet Danny, therefore she went to bed knowing that she had to come up with a plan.

At school, she looked okay as she was always a silent person, but in her mind she was coming up with plans on how to meet Danny after school, but every time she analyzed them, she could find loop holes, unfortunately she believes in perfection, no loop hole no nothing to sell her, growing up with a mother who is more of a detective than a parent, it sharpens your brain, because before you speak to her you have to analyze what you want to say.

At lunch time, Jersey noticed Evana was extremely quiet, “Back to earth Evana, so what’s up and don’t tell me nothing, or now that me and Kerry are fine you want to punish us for what we made you go through.”

“Jersey at times I think if something negative doesn’t come out of your mouth you will die,” Evana answered back.

“At least my negativity always makes you speak more than needed, you see,” Jersey answered.

“I could feel something was missing in our friendship, but I think Jersey always know how to spice our friendship,” Kerry too got in the discussion.

“So which spice am I?” Jersey asked.

“Hmm you should be something hot and sweet,” Evana answered.

They all laughed, “Hot and sweet you say… what could that be, which spice?” Jersey asked.

The girls didn’t know much about spices, people here don’t eat spicy food, the food here mostly have royco and few families add pepper, in their food and not much but very little.

“Come to think of it, pepper is hot, tomato is sweet, and maybe she is a sauce. Yeah, you remember, the sauce I brought back in class eight, the one my sister came with from the city, it was written sweet and hot.” Kerry reminded them.

“No no no…… (Jersey was laugh talking) sauce yes…but that sauce…noo….. It was really hot, I never felt the sweetness in it.” Jersey defended her honor.

Evana, was laughing with tears in her eyes, she remembered how they run to the school tap to get water after they had eaten the sauce. The memories were hilarious, the three of them had created great memorable evocation, that’s why she had to keep fighting for this friendship.

In the afternoon after the history lesson they had a double English lesson and this has always been Evana favorite subject, she loved it with all her being, especially literature. The subject teacher was madam Ruby, she was really beautiful, sexy, and damn with a cute smile and dimples, she was tall and her figure was magnificent, ooh God those hips made all boys in school go crazy, but thank Jesus, she was one of those teachers who kept boundaries, and never entertained those small boys’ jokes. So during the lessons she asked everyone to volunteer and either narrate a story, recite a poem or sing a song in English. That was the best lesson the class has ever had since they joined high school, they got a chance to laugh at each and every one as they made mistakes while representing something in English, the lesson extended to games period and no one even noticed.

“Okay, was the lesson fun?” Miss Ruby asked.

“Yes,” the whole class answered in unison.

“Now I hope you see where you are, in a country where everyone must speak in English in any institution and office, can you guys get a job with your English? You already know most probably I will be with you, for the next four years, what I want is to transform you, so by the time you are out of this institution you will be able to present yourself in the world with confidence, are we together?”

“Yes,” the class responded.

“I will be honest, some of you need a little polishing here and there on tenses and you will be good, but what I want is perfect not just good, so for me you are all in the same level. One more thing, speaking in vernacular in school will take you nowhere, but again it’s your choice. So what I can do for now is to request you to find a book, you can borrow set books, from those in form three and four, or get any kind of story and read, through reading you get to polish your grammar and learn your spelling, also you will learn to be a good story teller, I hope to see some improvement next time.” She ended her analyzation and left, that was Miss Ruby to the whole school, when she is done with her business she walks out and leave or she will just ask any question twice then leave.

As Madam Ruby was giving her finding to the class she gave Evana the answer she was looking for, borrow set books or story book, yes I will go to Leah’s home today specifically to ask for his last years set book and there I will meet him. That’s why I love you English and thank you Miss Ruby your soo cute, she was really happy her heart started beating first. I will see Danny today, she smiled.
