What do you do when a demon lord is staring at you with eyes that look like danger itself?
Nothing. In my case, I just stood there and was contemplating making a run for the door. At the same time, I couldn't, because I wanted this, right? I have been waiting for him to call me and he finally did, but now I don't know what to do while he was boring holes into me.
He was sitting on his bed nonchalantly while I tried not to allow my mind to wander to what happened yesterday.
His stare was making the air in the room smaller, which in turn made me feel uneasy.
I knew he wasn't the only reason I was feeling uneasy; events from earlier were running through my mind. Ren and Veyne. The things Ren said and what he called Veyne. And what Veyne told me? I didn't get the chance to talk to Veyne before Zareth sent for me.
"What can you do?" Zareth's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I stared at him in confusion.
"What?" I asked.
"You want me to help you become stronger. What can you do? What powers do you have?"
Oh. My face flushed in embarrassment. Well, that's a valid question.
"I don't know," I admitted. "I've only seen it twice. Once with Zekiel, I didn't even mean to, it just...happened. And then last night," I mumbled that last part.
"Who is Zekiel, and what did you do to him?" his cold voice asked as he continued to watch me.
I sighed. I really didn't want to talk about Zekiel.
"He was my destined," I said finally. "Or he was supposed to be. Things...didn't go the way they were meant to." I crossed my arms, refusing to elaborate further than that. "As for what I did, I don't really know. One second I was furious, the next he was on the ground and everyone was screaming. I don't remember doing anything until after. I just remember the anger."
His expression went from cold to amused. "Really? You almost killed an angel? Is that why you were cast out?"
I flinched when he said it like that. I mean, he was right, but it still stung, especially when he said it like that. Like I was thrown away.
"You are stronger than you think, then," he continued. "Anger. What happened yesterday? Were you angry too?"
I stiffened. "No."
Images of me on my knees flashed through my mind. Subconsciously, I looked at the exact spot I knelt yesterday, the exact place where he grabbed my....cock. I bit my lip to stop a groan.
"No?" His eyes narrowed, studying me with his cold eyes. "Then what was it?"
I felt my face heat up, the memory of his hands and the way my own body had betrayed me on the floor of his room just yesterday.
Why do I have a feeling he already knew what triggered it?
"I don't know," I said, looking everywhere but at him. "It just happened."
"Interesting."
He stood up and slowly walked towards me like a predator. I am kind of feeling like prey right now.
I took a deep breath as he stood in front of me, towering over me. My eyes were staring at his stomach. His rock-hard abs did a good job distracting me from the fact that he was half naked...again.
He started circling me slowly. I stood perfectly still when he got behind me. His body flush against mine. I exhaled and clenched my hands tightly. I could hear my heart beating so fast.
He leaned down till his lips aligned with my ears, his hot breath fanning me as he began to speak. "Tell me, Lysandra. When you knelt yesterday," he stopped and I stared at his face that was a few inches away from mine, "was it anger that made your body react? Or was it something else?"
My jaw clenched as I stayed silent. He was expecting a reaction out of me and I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction.
"I told you, I don't know."
"You were hard," he said lowly, taunting me. "That wasn't anger, little creature, was it?"
My whole body went stiff. "Stop," I grumbled.
He tsked before stepping back. It finally felt like I could breathe.
Before I could process the relief, I felt myself being spun around. I barely had time to gasp before his fingers grabbed my jaw, forcing my face to look at him.
My hand flew instinctively to hold his wrist, but I wasn't struggling to be free. I didn't know if it was shock or something, or if it was Veyne's words about my body reacting to him that made me not freak out.
"Get angry."
I just stared at him.
"You interest me, little creature," he said as his thumb traced my lips. "You aren't an angel and you clearly aren't a demon either. No wonder they tossed you away," he continued. I knew he was deliberately trying to get in my head. To make me angry. It was working.
I was angry. Oh, very much so. But nothing was happening.
"You look like a filthy earth dweller. A disgrace to both realms. Look at you, no wonder your destined rejected you," he continued.
My hands tightened around his wrist as my chest burned.
"There it is," he murmured as his eyes landed on my white knuckles. "That's what I want." He released my jaw. He took a step back, folded his arms across his bare chest, and watched me.
My hands were shaking and my chest went up and down as I panted. My insides were on fire and my fingers tingled. He called me a disgrace. I snarled, surprising him and myself.
When his eyes shot to my neck, I knew they were glowing again. This time, it felt like they were expanding. His words kept playing in my head. No wonder your destined rejected you. I felt my eyes darken.
"Don't hold back," Zareth said as my bones cracked. My knees bent a little as I struggled and almost fell.
I looked at him angrily. I had no idea what was going on; all I knew was I wanted to hurt him. Badly.
"Get angry, Lysandra!" he yelled.
And I roared.
