Chapter 14Raff paid the taxi driver without question. He took Jayden’s hand and led her upstairs to the kitchen. When he’d settled her at the table, he opened an expensive bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. He slumped next to her and pulled her against him. “Drink this,” he said, pushing the glass towards her. For once, he didn’t complain about the boots still on her feet. The scent of aftershave and male deodorant associated with Raff lulled her. She leaned her head against his shoulder and her tears dried in salt trails on her cheeks. The wine dulled the fear and her ragged breaths dropped into a less frenzied pattern.
