Chapter 23Exhaustion drained Jayden of energy. After begging for a five minute reprieve from her next client, she slumped into her chair behind the big wooden desk and rested her forehead against a pile of paperwork. Her father’s smiling face drifted across her inner vision, his full head of greying hair stuffed beneath a woollen hat. Hannah had knitted a new hat every year, often misshapen, strange creations. Dan pretended he loved them just to please her, no matter how weird they looked. Hannah still knitted them, but she no longer knew why.
