"The Smile That Vanished"
The weather was calm - soft wind, bright sky, the kind of day that felt gentle to everyone.
The city hummed quietly in the background, leaves rustling softly, the sunlight reflecting off the cars and sidewalks. Just outside Khalid's apartment, Khalid and Ismail stepped out together, laughing quietly, lost in a conversation only old friends shared. Their laughter mingled with the faint sounds of the street, creating a bubble of calm around them.
A sleek car pulled up in front of them, tires crunching softly on the gravel. Two women stepped out — twin sisters, each beautiful in her own way, carrying an air of confidence and grace. Tia and Kia.
Khalid's face lit up immediately. "Hey," he waved, smiling warmly.
Kia returned the greeting easily, her grin bright. "What's up, guys?"
"I'm good," Khalid replied, still smiling.
Ismail gave a polite nod - but his eyes lingered on Tia. She didn't respond. She walked past them without a word, her gaze distant, her steps measured.
"Why did she just ignore us?" Ismail asked, a flicker of confusion in his voice. "She didn't even reply your greeting."
Khalid's smile faded, replaced by something heavier. "She's not usually like that," he said quietly. "Tia used to be the most jovial person I've ever known. She was... light. The kind of person who made everyone laugh."
He paused, eyes following the space she'd disappeared into. "She smiled today when she stepped out of the car. That's the first time I've seen her smile in months. And honestly? That alone feels like a miracle."
Ismail frowned. "What happened to her?"
Khalid exhaled slowly, a shadow crossing his features. "I wish I knew. Whatever it is... it's personal.
