Chapter four-The man in the shadows Lucian’s POV “I curse the day I met that man, Tyvon!” I thought I heard wrong but this time, I was fully alert. There was someone in the bushes with me and I could hear her sobbing. Who dared to invade my territory? I went through the woods, moving through the trees and heading for the direction where the sobs were coming from. “What did I do to deserve this? Why is my whole world coming down? How can my own sister do all of these to me?” She was louder and I could sense the anger from her stuttering voice. Her voice led me right to her and I just stood behind the trees, watching her pull her hair and yell out in frustration. My eyes widened when I saw the owner of the voice. It was a girl, with the tattoo of the blackscar pack on her neck. Her face was puffy and messy from all the crying but I could tell that she was a very beautiful woman. I watched her lamentations for minutes, unsure of what to do or what to say. If I spoke, I might scare her away…but I spoke anyway. “Who dared come into Lucian’s territory?” The cries halted and she looked around, trying to find where the voice came from. “Who-who is there?” I was good at hearing a wolf’s heart beating and I could tell that she was a few steps away from having a heart attack. “Calm down, you are going to die if your heart keeps beating that fast.” I tease her by moving through trees and talking so she would not get an actual direction of where my voice was coming from. She turned around, her swollen eyes wide open and she fell down to the bush, in a vertigo effect. “Who said that? Show yourself!” She raised her hand in a fist, for self defense. I laughed out loud mockingly. “Ou! I am so scared, please don’t punch me with your feeble hands!” “Feeble? Oh, you don’t know how strong these babies are!” She pinched the air, positioning her feet and putting out a funny ready to fight stance. “How did you find this place?” “Why are you answering a question with a question? Did your mother forget to teach you manners?” Her voice was clearer now, her fear has subsided. “How would I know? My mother sold me off to another woman when I was young.” She sniffed her nose and cleaned her eyes, staring into the air. “Huh? What are you? A ghost? Am I dead?” She touched her hands, tapping on it to cross check her life. “You are not dead. I am.” I said casually, like she was supposed to understand how rebirth worked naturally. “What is that even supposed to mean?” “It means I am not a human. I mean, I was a human but now I am reincarnated.” “You liar! There is no such thing as reincarnation.” She picked up a twig and put it up, trying to put up a fight. I laughed out loud again, my voice almost cracking. “And how do you plan to fight someone you cannot see?” “Show yourself!!!” She screamed. I was not sure if it was the frustration of not seeing who she was talking to or the bitterness she was feeling before I showed up, but she was in pain. “Okay, fine i will but promise me you will not freak out?” “Why would I freak out? It’s not like you are a-“ Before she finished up what she was saying, I snuck out of the bushes, taking my shadow form, illuminating it and appearing in front of her. She screamed in fear and cursed, almost running away. “I told you not to freak out.” I smiled and brought out my hand for a handshake. “Hi, my name is Lucian and I am a ghost. Well to be more technical now, I am actually a shadow and before you doubt the existence of rebirth, I am actually reborn from my dead twin brother. He died while trying to find love and I came back to help him find love. I was a member of your back actually, my wolf form has that same tattoo on your neck but i was sold off, story for another day. Nice to meet you.” She left my hands hanging, staring at me weirdly and holding in a laugh. There were waves of laughter coming out of my mouth and it almost made me embarrassed. “What is funny?” “You expect me to just believe you? C’mon, that sounds like a fairytale and even a cub would not believe it.” “How else would you explain a bright shadow conversing with you.” I took my hands back and kept a straight face at her. “Maybe I am hallucinating. I must have cried a lot.” She turned around, sat on the bare bushes and was breaking the twigs on the floor. “I am real…believe it or not.” “Whatever. I do not even care. All men are evil and I never want to know anyone from that gender again. I am sorry for barging into your territory. I will leave first thing tomorrow morning.” She sounded pitiful and I wanted to know her full story but I honestly did not care. “Sure, please don’t touch any food while you stay over this night.” She turned around, her face squeezing. “So you don’t care to know what even happened?” “Would telling me your story make you hate men less?” “No but it would relieve me emotionally to have someone to talk to…” “Hmm, so now you trust a ghost?” “Maybe.” She bit her lips and rubbed her chin. “I think I believe you because you said you were once a member of the Blackscar pack.” “That is valid but just because we come from the same pack does not mean that we should trust each other. What if I am just deceiving you so I can eat you or kill you after?” She sighed and laid her back on the grass. “You are actually doing me a favour. There is nothing to live for again. No name, no pack and no love. Just kill me fast, I don’t want to perceive the scent of my own blood.”
