Should I be worried?

1422 Words
It was almost noon when he got home. He was sure Linda would be awake by this time. As he stepped into his room, he saw her sitting on the couch in his room reading a magazine. “Hey babe! So sorry I kept you waiting” he said as he moved towards where she was sitting. Hearing his voice, Linda dropped the magazine and stood up to greet him. “I’ve been calling your number, but it’s not reachable, how are you? Where did you go?”. Linda bombarded him with questions. She was curious as to why she woke up, and he was nowhere to be found. “I’m sorry babe, I left a note for you. Did you not see it?” “I saw it, but I need an explanation.” Okay! He said as he took her to the couch she was sitting and made her sit while he sat beside her. “While we were sleeping, I got a call from Sydney’s friend Vivian. She called me to inform me that Sydney was found unconscious in her apartment.” Hearing that, Linda felt pity for her and said, “Oh! My! What happened to her?” He further explained everything to her and assured her she was out of danger. “I hope she gets better.” Linda said in pity. “But why was your phone not reachable when I called? I was quite worried.” “I don’t know” he said, bringing out his phone to check the problem, “I was also checking my phone frantically to see if I’ve got a message or missed call from you.” He later realized he had mistakenly switched on the airplane mode. “Oh that explains it then, “my phone has been on airplane mode.” he explained. ‘Oh I see’ “Alex, but you need to tell her what she did. Now is the best time. Who knows if you had told her earlier, maybe she wouldn’t have thought of taking the substance she took.” “I know I was wrong for not telling her, I’ll meet up with her when she’s out of the hospital.” Linda does not feel insecure, they would only meet to have closure, and that’s it. Alex went into the bathroom to wash up. He was really exhausted. When he was done, he took a nap and dropped Linda at her house. Linda went back to her apartment, she had gone on a movie date and came back as a proper girlfriend, even though she knew that Alex had feelings for her, she was glad he confessed his feelings and their relationship did not end that night. Meanwhile, Sydney, on the other hand, had been crying nonstop. She couldn’t understand why Alex was treating her like trash, she had loved him and respected him all her life. When he had come to visit her at the clinic she had seen clearly the expression on his face, he didn’t even show an ounce of pity or love, he had only come to visit her out of courtesy. Vivian walked up to her friend with worry and concern. “Sid, talk to me, what is going on with you? I’m your friend, you should tell me what’s wrong. When did you start drugging yourself? What led you to this?” “Relax Viv, it's nothing to worry about.” “What do you mean it’s nothing to worry about? Huh? How come you are in the hospital? What if I had not come to your apartment when I did? What would have happened to you? I’m disappointed in you, I thought we were friends and yet you were doing all of that, and I was totally unaware.” “Okay! Okay! Okay! I don’t really know what’s going on too. Alex has been acting strangely lately, he does not pick my calls, and he does not return my calls. I have invested so much in this relationship, I cannot just let it wash down the drain without trying to resolve the issues we’re facing like that. I love him so much, I can’t lose him.” “Wait! You mean you guys are no longer together, and I’m just hearing about it now? “It’s just recently he started acting strange, he just told me he does not want to see me again without telling me my offense.” “Oh, that explains it. I saw the look on his face, but I could not read the meaning of it. I thought it was because I woke him up with calls. But that doesn’t mean you should kill yourself.” “I didn’t mean to, I only took the substance to make me feel better before we met.” “It’s fine you should relax now.” she said, patting her slightly on her hand. Just then, the door to the ward was flung open. Mrs. Williams, Sydney’s mother, came in. She came as soon as possible when she heard the news about her daughter being hospitalized. Vivian had called her to inform her about her daughter’s situation. “Oh! My dear!” Her heart broke at the sight of her pale daughter, she walked in with the things she had brought for her.” ‘Mom’ She said as she sat up, she did not want her mum to know what was going on with her. How would she bring herself to explain she drugged herself? Sydney is from a good family, her family’s reputation is of paramount importance. Although she knew her mother wouldn’t let words get out when she found out, she knew quite well she’d be disappointed in her and that, she didn’t want. ‘You’re here’. “My daughter, what happened to you? Vivian said you were found unconscious in your apartment. What happened to you? What did the doctor say? “Uhm, It's nothing serious mum, I will be discharged soon.” Vivian saw the look in Sydney’s face and understood that she did not want her mother to know the causes of the illness. And quickly thought of something. “The doctors said she fainted because of stress, she has been overworking herself lately without taking proper care of herself. She will be fine in no time, there’s no cause for alarm.” “Okay then, you need to take care of yourself Sydney, you are not a kid. Okay? “Mum, I’m fine I promise.” Sydney spent some more days at the hospital before she was finally discharged. She had made sure her mother went back by assuring her she was fine and had nothing to worry about, but her mother had insisted on staying with her for two more days before eventually leaving. When she got back to her place, she texted Alex that she was now home. She can’t wait to talk to Alex about their relationship and make up. She was kind of happy the situation turned out to be like that. If not, Alex would not have spared her any attention. She had gone to look for him at his work place several times, but his personal assistant had told her he was not around even though she knew he was in his office as she had seen his car parked in the office car park. To avoid further embarrassment, she decided to leave and respect herself. Alex had told his personal assistant and the security man not to let her in, but she had passed the security post as the man was not on seat. Alex was with Linda when his phone chimed, he updated Linda that Sydney was back from the hospital and wanted to talk. “Alright! I will go with you to go see her. She said, not raising her gaze from the phone she was pressing.” “No that won’t be necessary, she won’t be comfortable around you, and besides, you guys are not friends. I suggest you stay behind. When I get back I will let you know how it went.” “Should I be worried? My man is going to see his ex, and he does not want to take me along. Can there be any ulterior motive behind their meeting? We’ve only started dating, and I’m already having trust issues or maybe it's just me that’s overthinking things.” “Okay, no problem. I’ll wait for you to give me feedback.”
