BEING PARANOID

When they got to his house, Alex decided not to probe into her past.

“Would you like something to eat? I’m sure the maid must have prepared something for dinner”, he said while walking to the bathroom.

“I’m fine thanks” she said.

She did not really have an appetite. The man she saw at the party had made her lose her appetite, and she hadn’t eaten. Only the food she ate before Lucas left in the morning was in her stomach.

“Silly you, come and have your bath, then we will go downstairs and eat together. I’m sure you have not eaten anything since I left for the meeting in the morning.”

With pursed lips she said “Okay, I will eat a little.

She could smell the sweet and savory aroma of the food from downstairs.

After they both had their bath, he led her downstairs and they both settled at the dining table for dinner. The maid served them mac and beef and with the sweet aroma coming from the food her appetite increased.

She devoured the food without saying a word. You could tell she really enjoyed every scoop she put in her mouth. Alex watched her closely as she ate, and he couldn’t help but make a remark.

“I thought you said you didn’t have an appetite and yet you devoured this food within a minute.” He said, smiling.

“Your maid Rose is really a good cook, actually. I didn’t have an appetite truly, but after I perceived the aroma of the mac and beef and looking at how well she had served it, it looked delicious, and I couldn’t help but to develop a quick appetite.” she mumbled out.

When she was done eating she packed her things and told Alex she wanted to be on her way.

“Okay, I’ll drop you.” He said, handling her an envelope.

“What the f**k is that?” She asked as her eyes shot daggers at him. “I’m not a slut or a hooker as your fiancé as painted me to be, and I’m certainly not short of money. Just because I acted cool when your girlfriend barged in on us doesn’t mean I don’t know my worth, or I can’t fight back”. She said with a raised voice, looking straight into his eyes.

“You are just being paranoid, I’m only giving you this to take care of yourself. Don’t read meaning to it. And besides, Sydney is not my fiancé anymore I broke up with her.”

“Thanks, but no, thanks, I don’t need your money. I’m fine.”

“Okay then, if you insist”.

He drove her to her apartment, which was about thirty minutes' drive from his. When they got to the front of her house, they parked and talked in the car. Unbeknownst to her, Ben was waiting for her at her doorstep.

“I’m sorry once again you had to experience that with Sydney. She’s delusional if she thinks I will go back to her.”

“I’m sorry! I don’t mean to probe, but what happened between you two?”

When she saw Alex hesitate a bit she quickly chipped in. “It’s fine if you don’t want to discuss it”.

I mean we just met right. Her brain told her not to probe too much.

I found out that she was involved in a threesome which included one of my friends.

Linda opened her eyes wide in amazement but quickly composed herself.

“The truth is that I have always bragged about her to my family and friends, that she would never cheat on me, she’s a faithful girlfriend, she’s not a gold digger and all that. ‘I know her, she’d apologize to me until I’m moved to forgive her, which I don’t want.”

Alex had proposed to Sydney at a fancy restaurant two months back. He had really planned his proposal and did a mental check-up to be sure he wanted to really spend the rest of his life with her. He didn’t see any reason why he shouldn’t, as Sydney had always shown him the good side of her, she had even shed tears of joy when he got down on one knee. However, shortly after the beautiful proposal, he had gone to the club to have fun only for him to find out the love of his life was a b***h.

Prior to this incident, Sydney had been his friend for a long time, they had met shortly after he graduated from university, and it had happened that they both schooled at the same university, but they met after their graduation.

So she’s the real slut and yet called me names to my face? How pathetic can she be?

Alex asked for her number as she punched it on his phone and got off from his car. She waved him goodbye as he drove off. However, she didn’t know what awaited her at her doorstep.
