THE Raven card
Chapter 1 The Raven Card The city looked peaceful from above. Thousands of lights stretched into the distance, hiding the darkness that lived beneath them. Expensive cars glided through the streets, music drifted from rooftop lounges, and life carried on as though nothing could disturb it. On the top floor of Blackstone Tower, Victor Hale stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window with a glass of whiskey in his hand. He smiled as he admired the skyline. Power. Money. Influence. He had spent years building an empire that made people bow at the mention of his name. To the public, he was a respected businessman and philanthropist. To those who truly knew him... He was a monster hiding behind expensive suits and charitable donations. His phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen. Unknown Number A single message appeared. Open your safe. Victor frowned. He deleted the message without another thought. Seconds later, another notification appeared. You have thirty seconds. The smile on his face disappeared. He pressed the intercom on his desk. "David." "Yes, sir?" "Find out who is sending these messages." "Immediately, sir." Victor walked toward the painting hanging on the wall and pressed a hidden button. The painting slid aside, revealing a biometric safe. He placed his thumb on the scanner. The lock clicked open. Inside were stacks of cash, confidential files, passports... And a single black card. His breathing stopped. The card had a silver raven engraved on it. Victor staggered backward. "No..." His voice shook. "It can't be." Every powerful criminal in the city knew the meaning of that card. If the raven found you... Your time had run out. The lights suddenly went off. Darkness swallowed the room. Victor reached for the pistol inside his desk drawer. It was gone. His heartbeat pounded against his chest. "Who's there?" No answer. Only silence. Then... A single footstep echoed behind him. Victor spun around. Nothing. Another footstep. Closer this time. "I know you're here!" His voice trembled. "I can pay you!" Silence. "I'll give you whatever you want!" A calm voice finally spoke from somewhere in the darkness. "I don't want your money." Victor froze. "Then... what do you want?" A long silence followed. When the voice returned, it was colder than before. "I want justice." The emergency lights flickered. Once. Twice. Then everything became still. At exactly 6:30 the following morning, police officers surrounded Blackstone Tower. News helicopters circled overhead. Reporters crowded behind the security barriers. Every television station interrupted its regular programming. BREAKING NEWS Businessman Victor Hale Found Dead in His Penthouse. According to investigators, there were no signs of forced entry. No fingerprints. No murder weapon. No surveillance footage. The only item recovered from the crime scene was a black card bearing the image of a silver raven. It was the fourth time detectives had found the same card. By noon, the story had spread across the city. Some people called the mysterious figure a murderer. Others called the figure a hero. On social media, one name appeared over and over again. Silent Killer. No one knew who the Silent Killer was. No one knew whether the assassin was young or old. Man or woman. The only thing everyone agreed on... If the raven card appeared, someone with a dark secret would never see another sunrise. Far away, in a quiet apartment, an alarm clock rang. A young woman slowly opened her eyes, completely unaware that before the day was over... ...her life would cross paths with a man who would change her future forever.
