CHAPTER 2

I tried to argue with him about it, but he won in the end. I didn’t want him thinking that I wanted him for money and things because it wasn’t that. “Thank you,” I kissed his cheek, which caused the smile on his lips to grow. He wrapped one arm around my shoulder, pulled me into his side, and kissed the top of my head. “You are welcome. It is the least I can do,” We went back to join everyone else and get our work finished. In the end, it only took twenty minutes, and we had everything in the apartment somewhat sorted. I was in the bedroom, and Ryland came through. “What do you think, love Can we make this place home” “Yes, it already sort of feels like home.” He rested his hands on my hips and brought me around to face him. “Anywhere you are feels like home, Gracie,” He captured my lips in his. I snaked my arms around his neck and kissed him back. “Are you two ready… Oh, sorry,” The sound of Peter’s voice made me part from Ryland’s lips abruptly. As I felt the heat on my cheeks rise, I buried my face in Ryland’s chest to hide my red face. Ryland and Peter snickered. “Take your time,” Peter laughed loudly and walked away. “That is going to take some time to get used to,” I mumbled and shook my head. I was used to not having any of my parents around when I was with Ryland. Now, Peter was in my life; it was something I would have to get used to. I was glad that my fiancé found the whole thing amusing. I stepped away from Ryland, and he offered me his hand, which I took, and we went back to the living room to join everyone else. “Can we go get food now, please” Lola huffed. “Yes,” I smiled. “The place is within walking distance,” Peter said, “Now you are in New York, you won’t be doing much driving. Your best way to get around is cabs and trains. The roads are a nightmare to drive on,” I have heard that, and I didn’t think I would enjoy driving around such a busy city, primarily when I was used to a small town. However, the car will come in handy if we need to go further afield. We all headed out, and Peter led the way to the pizza place. I admired the city, the same way I had on previous visits. I loved all the hustle and bustle. It was filled with so many different people. It was beautiful to see. I am proud to call this place home — at least for the next five years, maybe longer. I think I will only move away when Ryland and I start a family. *** It was after eleven p.m. when we arrived back. Melissa and Jack were already back in their hotel. Peter walked with us since his car was at ours. “I will see you up there, sweetheart,” Ryland said and kissed my forehead. Ryland, Ben and Lola said goodbye to Peter before leaving me with him. “I don’t think you realize how happy it makes me that you are in the same state as me,” he smiled. “Oh, trust me, I know because I am the same,” He extended his arms out to offer me a hug. I gladly stepped into them and let him wrap his arms around me in a tight hug. I liked his hugs. “See you tomorrow,” he whispered. “I look forward to it,” I glanced up at him and smiled, and he tucked the hair away from my eyes. “Rest well, goodnight, angel,” “Goodnight,” I removed myself from his embrace. I told him I would wait until he got to his car. He did not like that idea and was insistent that I got to safety first. I made a move to walk away, but before I could get far, Peter grabbed my hand. I swirl around to face him. “Everything OK” “I love you, angel,” he smiled. The moment he spoke those words, I felt the tears in my eyes, and my heart did a little happy dance. “I love you too, dad,” When I called him dad, his entire face lit up because it was the first time I had said it. I could see the emotion on his face, in his eyes. “Dad, I much prefer that to Peter,” he smiled. “Same,” He gave my hand one last squeeze before letting go and ushering me to go inside. I was grinning like an i***t as I made my way up the apartment. Yes, we have only been in each other’s lives for a few weeks, but I feel like he has been there my entire life, and I knew he felt the same. I practically skipped into the apartment. “What got you so cheerful You were falling asleep not too long ago” Lola questioned. “Peter told me he loved me, and I called him dad for the first time,” “Aww, that’s great, babe,” Lola said. I said goodnight to them and headed to the bedroom to join Ryland. Thank God we had our bed. He had it made up and everything. How sweet of him. “Hurry, this bed is lonely,” he pouted. I stripped down and slid one of his tees on before I joined him in bed. “I called Peter dad,” I snuggled into Ryland as I told him. “That’s a good step,” “Yes. He told me he loved me for the first time too, and I replied in the same way,” I gushed. “I am happy that you two found each other and are getting along great,” he said and kissed the top of my head. “Me too!” I chirped. Ryland and I shared a goodnight kiss before switching the light off and getting settled for the night. Our first day here has ended perfectly, even after all the mishaps we have experienced on the way here.
