I woke in the middle of the night, in need of some water. Gracie is sprawled all over the top of me. I chuckled, still amused by all the weird positions she could sleep in. I carefully removed her from my body, sneaking through to the kitchen for my water. The house was still and dark. Ben and Lola must be sleeping too. I went and stood by the window, admiring the city’s night lights and smiled. There was something about New York City that made me feel at peace.
I only stayed for a minute before I rejoined my beautiful fiancée back in bed. I checked my cell quickly, and another message from Daisy had come through. I rolled my eyes, checking it to see what the f**k she wanted now. I wished she would back off because I am sure I have made it clear I am NOT interested in her, and even if things were different and I were single, I still wouldn’t want her.
Hey, Ryland, I am sorry if I got you into trouble with your girlfriend. I promise to make it up to you. MWAH! X
I deleted it, switched my cell off, and set it back down. I didn’t know what she thought was going to happen between us because I sure as hell haven’t given her any signs that I am interested. Make it up to me Yeah, never going to happen. And if she continued, Gracie won’t hesitate to stand her ground.
I climbed into bed, and the second I did, Gracie cuddled back into me.
“Where did you go” Gracie whined and snuggled back into me, “Sorry, sweetheart, I needed some water.” I laughed because the girl hated being disturbed.
“Don’t do it again,” she snickered and buried her face in my neck, “Okay, miss bossy pants.” I teased, planting a kiss on the top of her head.
“But you still love me…” she whispered tiredly, and her breathing evened out, “Yes, I do. Sweet dreams, beautiful.” Gracie snuggled in tighter to me.
It would take me a little time to fall back over. I lay there, getting lost in my thoughts, playing with Gracie’s hair. I wanted nothing more in this world than to make her my wife, and if I could, I would marry her tomorrow, but we had a plan, and I needed to stick to it. Those were the kind of thoughts that ran through my head every night, much better than the dark ones I used to get. Yes, I still had bad nights, but the good ones were far more common and drowned the horrible ones out. I shut off my brain, closed my eyes, and waited for sleep to take over, excited for a new day tomorrow. Gracie is meeting her dad in the afternoon to get what she needed for college. I was having lunch with my mom and Jack before they headed back home. It would be hard being away from my mom, but knowing she is in safe hands makes me feel better.
I was both nervous and excited about the changes to come.
