Ryland
I had the apartment to myself since everyone was still out. Gracie had texted me to let me know she would be home in a couple of hours and how she was having a great time with Peter. I was happy for them since everything seemed to be great between them.
I loved having the others around, but I was enjoying the place to myself for a couple of hours. There was a game I wanted to watch on TV, and I was having a beer — only one, though. I would start on dinner for the four of us soon. I finished off my drink, took it through to the trash and grabbed a bottle of water, but on my way back, there was a knock at the front door.
I had no idea who it could be. It wasn’t locked, so it wouldn’t be any of the others. Maybe someone from the building or the landlord. I sighed, strolling over and taking a look through the peephole to see who it was. And it was the last person I expected to see standing on the other side: Daisy! How the hell does she knows where I live She must have gotten the information from someone. She had no damn right coming around, and it is probably a good thing Gracie wasn’t home, or she would be fuming.
I drew in a deep breath before I answered, “Daisy, what the heck are you doing here How do you even know where we live” I swear this was stalker-like behavior.
“Hey! Good to see you again,” she beamed, avoiding my questions and walked straight in.
“Daisy, I didn’t invite you in!” the annoyance is evident in my tone.
I left the door opened and turned to face her only to find her looking around the place.
“Why aren’t you staying on campus Wouldn’t it have been easier” she turned her attention to me.
“No, we wanted a place of our own. Why are you here And how did you get my address” I repeated the questions, and I would continue to do so until she answered them.
“I came here to give you invitations in person,” she smiled.
“What for” I am sure there was no need to bring whatever it was in person.
“I am throwing a party a week before classes for all the first-year students, thoughthere will be more than that there. It is a fancy dress, and I would love for you to come” she asked sweetly, handing me two invitations, “You can bring a friend.”
Is she serious Bring a friend If I were to go, I would obviously be taking Gracie with me, not a friend!
“You mean Gracie” Daisy rolled her eyes the second I said Gracie’s name.
“If you must. Wouldn’t you rather be single and enjoy college, Ryland” She seemed to be stepping in closer with every word.
I stepped back, “No, I wouldn’t. I love Gracie. We are engaged and going to get married. I don’t want anyone else or to screw around —been there, done that. I am happy with Gracie.”
“You know that may change, right There are plenty of beautiful women and gorgeous men on campus. What if you meet someone better, or Gracie does” she shrugged.
“Daisy, enough, okay! Gracie and I are together. You or anyone else is not going to change that. As I aready said, been there done that, and I can assure you, no one, I repeat, no one comes even close to Gracie. I think it is time you leave.” I snapped.
“Fine! I am going. Will you be at that party” she questioned, seeming frustrated.
“Maybe, but I need another two invitations.” I tried not to be too sly when I said it because Daisy would hate the idea of me bringing even more people.
“Fine,” she huffed, taking another two from her bag and handing them to me.
“Thanks. Bye.” I stated simply.
Daisy looked unamused with my words, “No need to be so rude!” she protested but went in the direction of my door.
“You still didn’t answer my other question. Where did you get my address”
Daisy smiled sweetly, “I have my ways.” She seemed proud of it when in reality she shouldn’t be because it is creepy,
“I will be seeing you, handsome.” She winked and walked away.
I slammed the door in anger, tossing the invitations on the table and decided to start on dinner as a distraction. I was making my famous chilli con carne and rice, so I had some prep to do. I put some music on and got started.
“Ryland, I am home, babe,” I heard Gracie call out as I finished up in the kitchen.
“Kitchen, my love,” I called back.
I heard her coming closer, and she soon arrived in front of me, smiling widely. I wiped my hands, pulled her to me and kissed her softly, “Did you get everything you needed” I asked as we parted.
“Yes, and I got some things for you too.” She grinned.
“You didn’t need to do that, kitten. I have the money kept by for all of those things,”
“I know, but my dad insisted. And talking about my dad, he wanted us to stop by his firm tomorrow. He wants to talk to you about something and introduce me to everyone.”
“Me Why Did I do something wrong” I panicked.
“No, but he mentioned it is important.” And I didn’t know if that made me feel better or worse.
“Relax, babe,” she giggled, “How has your day been Lola texted to say they were on their way home.” I guess now was as good time as ever to tell her what happened.
“Most of it was okay until Daisy showed up at the door,” Gracie’s entire face changed.
“What did she want And how the f**k does she know where we stay” she hissed.
