CHAPTER 14

After a great day with my father, Ryland and I arrived home and could finally relax and consider my dad’s offer. Everyone in his firm was great and all very sweet. Their work is inspiring because they take on a lot of pro bono cases, which is incredible. In addition, they help people who can’t afford to pay, which is how it should be; everyone should have equal opportunities when it comes to these things. “Can we talk about your dad’s offer” “Yes, of course.” I smiled. Ryland led me to the couch, sitting us down, “I need your honest opinion, my love and don’t just tell me what you think I need to hear, okay” he sighed, “I promise to be honest.” “Do you think I could do the job And it will include some long hours, which means we won’t get to spend as much time together.” I understood it would change things, but in the long run, it would be for the best. “Yes, you can do it. I don’t have a single doubt. It would be a great opportunity for you. I know it will change things, but we will work it out.” I answered honestly. “It would be. And you promise we will still make time for each other The last thing I want is us to be ships passing in the night,” he reached for my hand, linked our fingers and rubbed the top of my hand. “I swear, Ryland, we will make time for each other.” “Okay. I will take the job on one condition,” he had a sly look on his face. I eyed him suspiciously, “Which is” I could only imagine. “You promise to let me take care of you until you find a job you truly want, not one you won’t be happy in,” I should have seen that coming! “Ryland, we have been through this, babe. I don’t expect you to take care of me. Your condition sucks, but no way in hell am I letting it be a reason for you not to take the job.” I respond sternly. “It was worth a try,” he laughed, “I will call Peter first thing tomorrow and tell him I will take it,” he added brightly. “Yay! I am so proud of you, my love. Now, it is my turn to find something.” I am not fussed about what I do as long as it helps pay the bills. Rylan leaned in, kissing me, “You will find something soon, but until you do, I don’t want you to worry about anything, okay” he insisted. I was sure I could deal with Ryland taking care of us for a little while until I find a job. “Okay,” I replied, pecking his lips. I repositioned myself, lying my legs over Ryland’s knee, “What do you want to do for the rest of the day” it was only three o’clock in the afternoon. “We could go see a movie or head to Central Park” he suggested. “We could do both.” We had enough time. “Then both it is!” He grinned. There was so much of NYfor us to see; thankfully, we still had time. There had been no point in doing it all at once, though with Ryland starting his new job, and the rest of us following soon enough, we wouldn’t have as much time as we thought we did. But as I told Ryland, we can work it all out.
