A new kind of danger
The ground was slippery beneath Alissa's feet, making her stagger and almost fall to the ground. She quickly righted herself, one hand shooting out to braze against the rough bark of the tree closest to her before she took off again. Her heart beat was thundering in her ears as she ran between the trees, the rain pelting down on her wherever it got the chance between the branches arching over her.
"Come back here b***h!"
The male voice sounded through the woods, making her heart skip a beat.
Too close. Way too close. How could he have caught up so quickly?
Her mind was racing in time with her feet and she had to push through the fatigue that wanted to make her just surrender to her inevitable fate. Pain lanced through her neck and shoulder and she could feel the warmth of her blood against skin that had been chilled by the rain. If only she could find somewhere to hide. Her gaze darted around but all she could see was more trees shrouded in darkness under the rainy night sky. How could she have let herself end up in this mess?
A week earlier
The song was not one Alissa recognized but she allowed one of her high heeled clad feet to bop along to the beat. The club was not one she had gone to before but her new coworker Maddie had insisted that it was all the rage.
Whatever that meant. She wasn't even sure that she liked Maddie that much with her overly bubbly demeanor that she knew from experience could be hiding very judgemental thoughts. But as she had newly moved to town and could use a few connections she wouldn't disregard her just yet. Not at least without giving her the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe there were people that were genuinely that bubbly and positive? She grimaced to herself at the thought and lifted the gin and tonic to her lips, taking a small sip.
From where she was sitting with her back against the edge of the hard counter and her legs crossed on the stool, she felt pretty good about herself at least. Not many people had come yet and the vibe was good for a Friday night just after ten in the evening.
This town was more quiet than she was used to. In the big city there had always been a constant bustling and she had barely felt like she could breathe sometimes for everything that was happening around her. So when they had offered her to take over as assistant director at this field office for the furniture company she worked at she had readily accepted. She had arrived almost a month ago, setting up her apartment and getting an understanding for how the town worked. It was as good a spot as any.
She watched a couple dancing not far away from where she was sitting. Their breaths mingling and their bodies brushing against each other intimately without any hesitation. His hand on her lower back, hers loosely around his neck.
"I would think that they'll hit it off tonight, wouldn't you think?"
The low timber just by her ear made her startle and she almost dropped the glas that she was holding in her hand. A strong hand gripped hers before it could happen.
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
The owner of the voice grinned at her and for a second she couldn't believe the beauty of the man before her. The twinkling eyes were a clear blue in a face that was chiseled to perfection, surrounded by a close cropped halo of dark blonde hair, topped off with that sensual mouth that was grinning at her. Without meaning to her eyes wandered down his body only to find it honed with lean muscles barely visible through a pair of worn jeans and a white T-shirt.
"If you continue looking at me like that, the couple on the dance floor won't be the only ones hitting it off tonight."
Sne snapped her gaze up to his only to see amusement tinged with something she couldn't quite describe. Something that made her slightly uneasy. In a blink of an eye it was gone though and she shook herself. She was no damsel in distress, she would be able to handle herself if this man was up to no good. Her lips drew up into a grin of their own and she took another sip as she looked at him over the rim.
"How do you know that I'm here alone? Maybe I'm waiting for someone."
"Who would that be then?"
The direct question put her a little off, despite the easy tone it was said with. She studied the man, the ease with which he was leaning against the bar counter and the way his eyes rested on her.
"Maybe my secret lover", she asked with a raised eyebrow and was pleasantly surprised by his quiet laugh.
"Wouldn't that be me then? No, I'm sorry again. I just haven't seen you around here before so I figured that you must either be passing by or new to town. A beautiful woman like you wouldn't be alone at this bar for this long otherwise."
She felt that suspicious part of her let go a little. What he said was reasonable as she hadn't been out much on the town since she had needed to handle everything that was new to her at work and had often gone straight home, exhausted and ordered in. The description of her as a beautiful woman also had it's appeal and she smiled at him. She knew that her auburn hair framed her face in a nice way and that her bronze coloured dress complimented her slim build.
She held out her hand towards him.
"Hi, my name is Alissa. Yours?"
As he took her hand she noticed that the palm of his hand was a little chilly against hers. Goosebumps rose along her arm.
"My name is Daniel. What do you say about getting out of here?"
Looking into his eyes she could see the promises and she found herself getting up from the stool. A hand landing on his chest to lightly stroke the skin underneath the cotton.
"I would love to."
~~~
She sighed into his mouth as his weight pinned her down and his hips moved against hers, in her. Her legs were banded around his hips, holding him close, while her nails raked at his back.
He had kissed her directly when they had left the club. Pressed her back against the concrete wall of the building, his body framing hers as he leaned down and took her lips in possession with his own. The kiss had been drugging in it's quality, making her want more. His fingers had traveled down under her dress, teasing her just enough through the fabric of her panties to leave her wet and aching.
The rest had been a blurr as he had driven them home to his place that lay at the edge of the woods. Their clothes had been thrown off step by step by eager hands just inside the front door until they had reached the bedroom. Falling on the bed together he had pinned her underneath him and swiftly entered her, making her gasp.
As she felt her orgasm cresting, she moaned, feeling her whole body go lax. Her eyes drifted closed.
The pain at her shoulder was unexpected. It was sharp and spread through her shoulder like she had been stabbed. Her eyes flew open and she blindly tried to dislodge whatever it was before the pain lessened, turning into a numb kind of pleasure.
"What was that? It hurt", she heard her own voice say from far away, like she was under water.
It wasn't until he lifted his head and she saw the blood glistening on his extended fangs that she felt the first tendrils of fear underneath the numbness. Wait... Why did he have fangs?
"You... bit me..?"
"Sorry Alissa but your blood tastes divine", he said with a smirk before lowering his head again, making the pain return.
And she realised that she might have overestimated her ability to handle herself.
Now
She didn't remember how she escaped. Frankly, she didn't know how much time had passed since she met Daniel at the club. Had anyone wondered where she had gone?
Her breathing was starting to sound wheezy to her own ears and her sight was slowly getting darker at the edges. She was about to pass out.
Fuck no! You need to stay awake you dumb woman. This is not how it ends.
She didn't realise that she had stumbled into a clearing. She didn't notice anything until her running came to an abrupt stop, slamming into something solid but soft. With an "oumf" she fell to the forest floor, trying to catch her bearings as the world spun around her. All that was clear in her vision was a pair of black clothed legs.
Legs?
As her gaze lifted to the face above, the darkness took over completely. Cause the man in front of her had fangs too.
