I was messin around with my mates in the river - it runs through the woods near a small town, the town I was raised in. We weren't there long when I smelt them. A lot of them. I knew straight away they were a pack and by going by stench there were a lot of them.

"Levi, Dan lets go!"

I couldn't have the guys around here with a pack in the area, they knew what I was, but they have never met anyone else like me before. It's for the best - I once met another wolf kinda like me, on his own. I think his name was Dave, David or maybe Darrel something like that, he told me about the Great War - It had been 20 years now since he lost his pack. I think I would have been about 1 when it had ended, I'm not sure tho. Maybe my parents were killed in the war and that's how I ended up being abandoned on the doorstep of the worst orphanage in the world. I was raised in a children's home - not a very nice one, but that's where I met my boys Levi and Danno. They're more like brothers now so I can't have them here in the woods with a pack on the prowl.

"We just got here!" Levi called back.

"I texted the girls, told them to meet us here! What else we going to do" - Dan

We spent a lot of our summer afternoons here by the lake slowly drifting into the evening; we'd drink, smoke and mess around. We spent a lot of our winter evenings here too, when the sun would start to disappear we'd make a fire. Eventually, we'd all set off "home" - me and the boys lived in a small flat. Levi worked in the barbers - good at it too, Danno worked a couple of shifts a week in the town's only bar. Me - I've never been able to hold down a job and now I'm running out of options. I worked at the bar with Dan ... lost my temper ... got fired, same goes for the corner shop; the veg shop, post office, and the petrol station just outside of town. So now I'm having a break - Levi and Danno said they were fine with covering the rent, they know how I struggle to keep my temper down. Its something that got us in enough trouble as kids - although I don't think me being good would have made things any better.

"You having one then or what" Levi was watching me like I'd gone crazy - I was trying to listen, It would help if I could get an idea of the location of the pack.

"Sorry, what?"

"I got larger, do you want one" - Dan

"Oh yeah sure"

I sat with Levi and Dan - we kept a couple of camp chairs here, in the summer it wasn't too bad but in the winter we had to make sure they were covered up.

"You alright bro?" - Levi

"Yeah all good, just listening to the sounds of the forest"

"Here anything interesting?" - Dan

The boys knew what I was - kinda hard to keep it from them. They watched me turn for the first time, it happened just before summer a few months ago.

"The wind in the trees, rabbits, birds - "

"Our birds?" Levi was laughing.

"No, I cant hear the girls yet"

Shit, I forgot Dan invited the girls. Amelia and Mia were great - I once went out with Mia but It didn't work out .. we make better friends - with benefits. Mia and Amelia were my family too - Mia and I met in the orphanage, she arrived when she was 6 years old. I'm not sure how she ended up there, she's never spoken about her life before then. Amelia has been Mia's friend from the moment they met at school and eventually, Amelia's family fostered and adopted her. Me, Danno and Levi nope we never go outta that place with a family. I understand why I never got adopted - I was a terrible baby who turned into a terrible child, that's what the assholes said anyway. But I'll never understand why my two best buds never got adopted, they were nothing but kind and hard workers.

I tell Dan to message the girls, we've been sat at the river for at least an hour now and the girls aren't here I hope they're okay.

"f**k Sake" - Dan

"What?" - Levi

"They've ditched us - gone to some party" - Dan

"Common then - where is it?" - Levi

Looks like we're going to a party instead now, its definitely for the best - I haven't heard much commotion from the pack but they aren't far.

"Wanna give us a lift Kovo" - Levi thinks he's funny.

"f**k off you lazy s**t"

No way I was giving his fat ass a lift, It wasn't even far to the edge of the forest and I didn't have the energy.

It was getting dark now but the air was cool - In the summer it was my favorite time of day. When I first changed or what that dave guy called shifted I loved running in the woods - the cool wind blasting through my fur as I ran and ran and ran. I was full of energy. It was amazing.

OHH NO.

"stop"

"What's up Kovo" - Levi

"Shhh, they're here"

"Who's here?" - Dan

"There's another pack here. I was too busy thinking. I didn't hear them. or smell them. s**t"

They were so close now but I couldn't make out where they were. I was still new to this. I didn't know what to do. Were they watching us? Could they smell us? I had to get the boys outta here - they didn't know how much danger they were in. That Dave guy had told me a lot about being a lycanthrope and having human friends was a no go and if they found out that these two human friends knew what I was they'd be dead.

"The roads right over there - go"

"Were not going without you". Dan whispered but I knew he was pissed I'd even suggest it.

They were surrounded - they weren't going anywhere.

We started walking towards them.

"Well, what the f**k do we have here then"

"How you doin boys" - Lucas (pack mamber).

"Ziggy, those two are human. The other one's a wolf but look at his eyes" - Jay-Jay (Youngest brother of the Alphas)
