“You will not be attending any university outside of pack territory.” My father threw his finger in my face, inches from my nose, “I forbid it, as your father, and especially as your Alpha.”
I scoffed at his idiotic rebuttal to my decision to go to Yale University.
“Oh please, you just don’t want me to leave this pack. You think I should be a trophy wife to some warrior wolf. That is not the life I want to live, daddy.” Crossing my arms over my chest, I narrowed my eyes to him, “I’ve never once disobeyed your orders. I trained my ass off for years, to prove to you, and all of the hierarchy that I belong at the top as an Alpha.”
I took a couple breaths to calm myself before looking back up to my father.
“Davina…”
“No. Dad, just no. I get it, I’m meant to be a Luna. A trophy wife to whoever ascends after your retirement, but I won’t. My mate is out there, I’ll meet him eventually.” Putting my hands on my hips, I looked at my father in his piercing green eyes, “If I can't be the Alpha of the Crescent Pack, then I will definitely be going to the university of my choice. Your commands,” I inhaled slowly, “your commands, they mean nothing to me Alpha Eric.”
My father's eyes felt like daggers on my skin. The look of disbelief and anger in his eyes hurt. I’d never disobeyed a command in my life. I followed all the rules, I trained harder, and pushed myself more than any of the other pups, male or female.
“Women aren’t warriors, my darling.”
“You’ll be a wonderful Luna one day.”
“Women can’t be Alphas, you’ll understand one day.”
I’ll give my father this, he never led me to believe my dream of being Alpha would ever come true. Though, him pushing Luna on me, as if I would ever commit to anyone but my own mate, irked me in ways I never understood.
“Now, Davina. You can’t ignore an Alpha’s command. So once again,” my father's voice raised into a booming sound, “As your Alpha I forbid you to leave this pack for some silly university.”
His thunderous voice had the council members with their heads down, I could hear their wolves whimpering in fear.
Cowards. My father isn’t a scary man, his “Alpha voice” has never scared me, even as a little girl. I’d always bowed my head in respect, but I’ve never once felt the desire I’m supposed to feel at an Alpha’s command.
The desire to respect the Alpha, to do as he pleases. An Alpha’s command, it’s not something anyone can disobey. At least, no one is supposed to be able to.
“No.”
His gaze met mine, “Excuse me?”
“I said no, I’ve already packed my things. I have a flight out of New Orleans tonight.”
Breaking from my father's gaze, I turned to walk out the door.
“Davina! If you leave this pack tonight, you will not be welcome back.”
I stop in my tracks to process what he said. I knew he would give me this ultimatum, I just didn’t plan on it breaking my heart.
I felt the tears begin to well in my eyes. I choked back a sob and turned back to my father, “Good riddance.”
I heard the bountiful whispers erupt in the room before my father silenced them.
As I walked out the door, Parker, my best friend and son of the Beta was waiting for me.
“I packed your bags in the Jeep. You ready to go?”
Looking at Parker in his soft blue eyes, I felt the hot tears stream down my eyes. He wrapped his strong arms around me, pulling me close. “It’s okay Dee, I’m here. I’ll always be here.”
At his words I began sobbing into his chest, his wooded scent had a calming effect.
“I love you, Park. I’m sorry I put you in this position.”
“Hey, hey. None of that, you didn’t put me in this position, I put myself here. I wish I could go with you. Maybe I’ll be able to visit? I hear Connecticut has good coffee.”
I let out a small laugh and looked up to him. I hoped like hell that once we turned eighteen we would be mates. I think he did too.
His shaggy golden curls laid over his tanned forehead, the perfect contrast to his steel blue eyes. He pressed a kiss to my forehead and pushed me towards his car.
“Come on, we need to get you out of here. You have a new life to start.” He winked as he opened my door.
“I’ll miss you most.” I pulled him into me, and held on as tight as I could. I knew I wouldn’t be able to see him again. Not after being exiled from my own pack. Not if my father had his way.
‘What I wouldn’t give to be your mate.’ His voice rang in my head.
What? I’ve never been able to hear thoughts unless I was in wolf form.
I shivered. Parker lightly kissed the top of my head and closed the door.
