Chapter One
There could not be someone who liked me so badly. That is, he hated his way of being. Always so arrogant, superb, as if everyone should surrender at his feet. As if it were the damn center of the damn Universe. And the worst? I hated it! More for being the genius of high school, he bore more than five honorary titles for being the best of the f*****g class. I hated a boy for being better than me. Come on, not even that bad. So, alone, I had only failed to distract myself thanks to his questions about unintelligible calculations. Everything was always fine, you know? Even my parents with his were best friends, but he, he always preferred to solve calculations before playing sandcastle with me. What a bastard. "And as my final project, I want to thank the nutritious coffee every morning," he said with a big smile. And it was very clear, that Casey wanted to be just him and no one but him. We applaud everyone as if it were a "wonderful" presentation. And as much as it had bored middle class, it had saved our exposure with my group. Again, it was clear that Casey had done it alone. He preferred to do it alone than with his group, ours. When he rang the exit bell, we all ran like crazy cows to go quickly. As always, she was the last to leave. Not even my friends were waiting for me, everyone was going to eat something light for their balanced "diets." I always kept in my form, neither thinner nor more filled; just normal. I took my bag, and before I could escape the clutches of fate and hate towards Casey, the least unexpected stopped me. So much was the impact that even gave me the chills. "You can tell you hate him with all your might," said a voice at the back of the room. Me than you, I don't show it. When I turned around, I realized that it was just the weird boy at the back of the room. When nobody talked to him, nobody turned to see him and nobody wanted to sit with him. And I don't talk about the bad boy, because I had nothing wrong. They just didn't sit with him because his looks were weird, and his musical tastes too. "You are wrong," I replied, with a smile. Simply... "You don't know how to lie, Lea." ''How do you know my name?'' He rolled his eyes and lifted his things from the table. "You are my classmate, duh," he replied, and positioned himself very close to me. I was really tall, very tall, and that began to intimidate me. Short tip: Don't show your hate, it will only make you more pathetic and losing. Besides, that will make you fall in love with him. He passed me by, and I was so shocked that I wanted to kill him as soon as possible. I had never spoken in class, much less with me, but that voice was as thick as masculine that from one moment to another, it began to attract me. It was impossible to refuse that. It was attractive, like a magnet. I turned around, and visualized it standing in the doorframe. "Let's ... right?" ''Yes. That? He asked reluctantly, arms crossed''. "Why ... are you so ... quiet?" I insisted. I got no answer, more than his own smile being a complete curve belonging to a perfect hell full of power and darkness. Demon Faure, who was he really? Or rather, what was he? More than quiet and lonely, he was someone strange. I ignored those ideas from my head, and left the room. When I met Bianca, my best friend, she smiled at me a bit silly. I smiled at him like any other person, and he immediately took my arm, leading me along with the others. I hadn't even grabbed a fruit tray or the main course. Immediately, I sat next to the others around him. Besides Bianca there was another girl named Harper, and another one named Jo, her name was Joanne but we told her that way. "So ... you rub shoulders with the elite, huh." Jo said with a raised eyebrow. I thought Démon Faure was mute, I swear to God! -Elite? Bianca asked, stirring her salad. Démon is not from the elite. "What did Démon tell you, Lea?" Harper murmured, and they all paid brief attention to me. I swallowed without knowing what to answer. "He asked me for Thursday's homework ..." I lied. Of course, I gave it to you, you know. "Mmmm… Okay," Bianca snapped. So who will go to Shawn's party? Sure, the party. That is an important point here. A boy named Shawn was going to have a mega party for his eighteenth birthday. They were all invited, except me. He had even invited Casey! But, highlighting an extra point, he hadn't invited Démon either. At least, I didn't feel so useless. I snorted by blowing a brown strand that fell on my face. "It is said that his girlfriend will cut with him at the party, in front of everyone!" Bianca murmured. How awful! Who would do that? "I don't know, strange people?" Asked Harper with a smile. Hopefully there will be no mess, or they will never let me out. And you? Read? What are your plans for the weekend? But I did not answer. I was, something like that, hypnotized as Bella by Edward. I looked over my shoulder at Démon battling the horrible food in the cafeteria. And for a moment, his eyes rose to me. I turned as soon as his gaze caught my attention, I felt ashamed of that. ''Read?'' Said Harper in front of me. "Hey, I won't do anything ... Nothing special." "What if we leave Shawn planted and keep Lea company?" Said Jo. ''Good idea! I love!'' Bianca exclaimed, amused by the idea. And immediately they began to plan everything. And more about painting your nails like getting weird hairstyles. For some reason, there was something that told me to look there. And when I did, Démon was gone. My mother was of medium height, like me. And my father was taller than a pole. Well not so much. But he was too tall. Both had met at the same high school that I was attending, and therefore I had to continue my studies there. He had no brothers, except Charlie. Charlie had been adopted when he was just ten years old, and he was eight. So, he was two years younger than me. All our life we had lived in Lorenford, so we had grown up practically there. My parents had no close relatives, they lived in other countries. My mother always used to dedicate me phrases of the Dalai Lama so that she doesn't have so much repulsion for Casey, she knew the story. My father was of few words, but very good advisor. Both worked in a family business. When I was little, and Charlie still didn't appear in our lives, my parents were very close to Casey's parents — and don't even wonder what the separation was. Therefore, my parents and theirs knew each other very well. Although, let's rule out that Casey's father had an affair and with his lover they had a child whose name is not even known. But that secret, we knew, nobody else. At night, the girls had come with thousands of things. My parents were always glad I had friends, as well as Charlie. However, I didn't like the idea of them coming. It didn't bother me at all, but I planned to watch a series and sleep in peace. That night, we played everything. Harper had brought beers, Bianca snacks, and Jo romantic movies of those old ones on DVD. And we talk about boys, without touching the subject of Démon. "Read, what was the last boy you kissed?" Asked Harper, taking the last sip of his beer. Was it long or short? "I don't know, I didn't even kiss anyone yet ..." I wanted to answer. "I kissed ..." With my eyes, I quickly looked for a false name to invent. I found a book in my library, and smiled like a fool— Tomy d**k. "Tom d**k?" Asked Bianca. And who the hell is it? "You don't know him ..." Harper laughed. "How was it?" Where did you meet him? Again my eyes searched for a place on the map hanging on my wall, and I pointed to France. "Ulala, Mr. French ..." Jo muttered with laughter. "When will you see it again?" Asked Bianca. Well, why not lie? I told them in detail our kiss, that we had climbed on a clock tower to kiss us and stuff. Moreover, they had believed it. I laughed inwardly at my response and my invention of the perfect boy. He had even written down everything to create a romantic novel. Who would say? Maybe it was going to be a great novel. Afterwards, they were all asleep. But not me, I had stuck to the desk looking for information about the Faure family. Démon's family. And there was no trace, except that John Faure, a great guy who had ruled Lorenford a long time ago, had no connection with Démon. I closed the laptop, and my thoughts went through the clouds when I heard a peculiar noise outside the house. As if someone were walking on dry leaves, or branches, they were creaking. My hands shook, I wasn't going to wake my parents. I sneaked down the stairs, and walked around the kitchen entrance to the back garden. I opened the door, and nothing. It was just beginning to rain. Lightning flashed in the sky, illuminating the courtyard of a strange presence. And I saw Démon, drenched in the rain and coming towards me. When I closed in fright, a hand covered my mouth. And I immediately started screaming in despair. ''Help! Help!'' I shouted, as soon as I managed to get out of hand. When I turned on the light, I saw that Charlie was laughing like a madman. '"Help! I pee!” He teased. ''Ah! If you will be a jerk!'' I exclaimed, and suddenly I saw my parents go down the stairs in pajamas. Asking what had happened and what those screams were. I stumbled upon Lea when leaving the kitchen, nothing to worry about, everything was fine ... I was going to the garden to look for my uniform that was ... what was hanging, he lied, and that was the good thing Charlie had in himself. He wasn't a liar, but he saved our skin despite being so stupid and sometimes a little silly. But it was age, should I blame him for it? Of course not. My father made a face of displeasure. "Did you go outside to look for the uniform?" My mother asked, and looked through the curtains of the house. You would have left it there, it's all full of water. With distrust, I went to the window to see and was surprised not to see Démon. I swore to see him there, he was approaching. Stealthy, he was capable, what we hadn't heard. But seeing his figure, he swore it was him. Just him. "Go to sleep," my father complained. Tomorrow will be another day, are you okay, Lea? ''Yes. Of course ...'' I said with my heart beating a thousand. I saw my parents walk away with Charlie from behind. I'll go right away, wait for me to drink some water. It must be the scare. As soon as I saw them walking away, I looked out the window again. The rain It was beginning to cease and the lightning had disappeared. Had it been my imagination? Maybe, I was sure of it. I closed my eyes tightly and told myself inside that I should forget the idea of becoming a friend of Démon. That boy was never going to be my friend.
