Chapter One
“No mum, I will not be home for Christmas”
She whined on the phone settled in-between her shoulder and cheeks while folding her clothes into the huge luggage
"umm, I don't know prolly because Max and I have a flight to catch to Quebec” walking over to her bikin closet,
"of course spending time with Max is better than playing dominos during Christmas Eve with Dad"
Sighing for the fifth time, she threw her head back in frustration. Her mum had always looked out for her but it gave her goosebumps now that she was a grown ass woman.
“What was that? Mum? Um mum. I can't hear you. I think the lines are breaking……. Bye!”
Hanging up before tossing it on the bed,
Gwen Wilson smiled to herself. Picking up one of the clothes she had folded and inhaling the calm scent it had.
The shampoo and colognes she'd got for the trip had rubbed off on everything she was going away with. It smelled so divine.
Max would love it.
Just when she had started to picture them on the plane with their hands entwined, her phone rang.
Frowning.
“Arrrrrgh…… can't one girl plan one trip in peace?” Looming over to see the caller.
She held a grin after seeing it wasn't her mother. But her girls.
“Look who's all excited for the snow land"
May, who had her blonde hair tied up into a ponytail, popped up in her face on her screen first, teasing as usual.
“How's it going?” An Asian accent filled her speakers as Mia blew kisses at Gwen while holding up a mascara stick.
“How's it supposed to go? it's snow land” may stated as a matter of factly
She blushed again, this time rolling her eyes at them since she couldn't hide her boiling excitement.
“Come on guys don't be bitchy about this I mean, it's the first time me and Max get to go on a trip alone"
“Really? What about Beverly hills?" Mia called out again
“Remember? He packed his mum's things along with him. Says she can't stay with his niece”
“Who doesn't stay with their grandchild. That's bullshit” Mia scoffed
"Such a d**k” May commented.
Gwen sang "I can hear you" rolling her eyes again.
“You can hear the truth." May corrected
“Guys, this is me and him. This is us and I have a pretty good feeling I'm gonna get the ring this time”
“Like you did the last time" May whispered loud enough for her to hear.
“What happened last time?" Mia paused applying her lip gloss and furrowed her brows. Oblivious about almost everything.
“Apparently his mum….
May tried to explain before Gwen cut her off
“Shut up! please” giving off a deadpan look
They all became calm for some seconds before Gwen sighed.
“Could you all just shove this up your asses right now?” strolling around with the phone until she found a spot to place it while still arranging her stuff.
"Come on…. We were only pulling your legs, you love him, he loves you, it's sweet and we support you. Don't we Mia?”
May comforted which made Gwen's cheek flush lightly
“Of course we do, you know my medium? she said I need a sign before I stop f*****g rich Italians and catching your bouquet will be one hell of a sign”
“Is there ever a time your medium doesn't tell you to watch out for a sign?"
May put in causing Gwen to muffle her giggles.
"You know what else I'm watching out for?”
She asked, waving her lipstick on everyone's screen as she smiled mischievously.
“The CEO of Deux deluxe" smiling to herself.
"The CEO of Deux deluxe?” Gwen repeated.
“I thought no one knows what he looks like," May added
“Well I'm. going to find out, I heard from my private middlewoman that he's flying in tonight”
"let's be real, he has to be a man in his fifties” May suggested which made Gwen laugh heartily
“Exactly, I mean how fun would it be fooling around with an older man… ..
“Ewwww” Gwen made a face while suppressing her laughter
"Now that! is far from gross" May rolled her eyes at her screen.
Gwen rolled her eyes as if waving off their excuse to appease her.
They talked till she glanced at the her wrist and it was time for her to get going
Exhaling deeply after the call ended.
Four years.
Max was surely the one for her, no one stayed with someone for four years if they weren't planning on having babies together and she.
She was happy just thinking of Max walking around with a mini Max.
‘In love one must sacrifice for the other’… she thought, her eyes wandering towards the bags and the rest of her stuff she was going to leave behind.
He got her all of it, even when he didn't have to.
Gingerly reaching for her pocket, she admired the small box again, Imagining for the tenth time today how it would feel wearing one and Max wearing the other.
She didn't tell the girls she was going to propose. If she did she'd be harboring second thoughts
Gwen basked herself with another sweater as she let her brown silky hair loose, she hated the holidays. Especially Christmas somehow.
It only meant boots and heavy sweaters, lights and decorations bright enough to blind your eyes along with annoying children playing dress up on the streets. The irritation was ineffable.
Even now as was she sitted in the private cab that was supposed to get her by 7pm, though they were close
Her impatience was growing with each ticking minute hand,
Max patience to be precise.
“Hey darling,” anyone behind the line could tell she was smiling
"Hey, are you here already?” The deep husky voice sounded impatient and it made her smile again.
“Do you miss me so much?”
"Well yeah, it's been about…. An hour since I ordered lasagna for us"
"isn't that sweet of you, sadly I'm gonna be wasting a few minutes, something came up" the driver pulled up in front of the hotel that was decorated with lots of lights and decorations
“Work?"
“Call it that"
“Okay, just call me when you're coming up I'm stepping out right now to go get some deserts"
“Sure I will"
Waiting till he hung up before taking the card from the lady behind the desk, with anticipation she hurried to the lift.
“Then we'll go together for deserts my love” grinning to herself till she got to the lobby.
Exhaling deeply. She walked over towards the door that had the numbers she was searching for on it.
And stood for a second.
“Proposing can't be that hard. You'll just tell him over desert" reassuring herself.
She knocked.
Once, twice.
"Who is it?” his voice sounded blur
"Special room service” she tells him
"We didn't order anything” the muffled voice yelled again
‘We?’
