Mysterious Box
Vincent Bar, Servium Town
Heavy rain soaked the ground of Servium Town. Every resident immediately took shelter under their respective dwellings. The animals returned to the nest, they stared sadly at the cry of the gray sky.
In a well-known bar, the loud sound of men drinking intoxicating alcohol was heard. The bustling atmosphere of gambling and fighting was in stark contrast to the quiet outside.
In a corner of the room there was a figure in black clothes. The way the man was dressed made him look suspicious. There was no trace of joy on his face, only a gloomy expression.
A young man in a uniform that showed his identity approached the man. He carried a tray of drinks and food, which was quite expensive for an ordinary person.
"Here is your order, sir."
He put the food and drink on the table. His behavior was very polite and ethical, something that was rarely possessed by ordinary children.
"You don't have anything else to do, do you?"
A hoarse voice like a lion's growl came out of the man. His eyes were looking at the teenage. He made the teenager very frightened by it.
"Yeah ... Do you need anything?" With a beating heart, The teenage forced himself to ask.
"Sit down," the grown man ordered.
The teenager sit in front of the suspicious-looking man.
"What's your name?"
"Erland. Erland Schwein."
The index finger tapped the table repeatedly. The look on his face showed that he was deep in thought.
"Do you need money?"
Suspicious. The word Erland pinned to the figure in front of him. But the word money was too tempting for a teenager without parents like him.
"I need it."
Without hesitation, Erland said it. Money was a necessity for many people.
"I'll give you money, but you have to do one thing for me."
Erland swallowed his saliva. It was possible that what the man was about to ask was something dangerous. However, once again he needed it. He was lacking of money.
"Do what?"
The man dug something out of his robe pocket. He took out a small box. He carefully placed the box on the table. His careful behavior showed how valuable the box was.
"Take this box to house number 46 on black owl street."
The teenager nodded his head excitedly. Slowly, he took the small box from the man. He carefully studied each side of the box.
A carefully carved sandalwood box formed a beautiful and soothing calligraphy. Without a doubt, this box alone was worth more than a gold coin, a value for money that Erland never got.
"Don't open the box."
Hearing his order, Erland immediately put the box down and stopped observing.
"Be careful, if you open the box, then your fate is done."
Erland's eyes narrowed. He seemed surprised to hear the man's words. "Is the thing inside that dangerous?"
"Very dangerous. Do you want to cancel it?"
"No. I'll take this job."
"Good."
The man nodded in satisfaction at Erland's answer. He then placed five silver coins on the table. "This is your initial payment. You can ask the person who received the box for the rest."
Five silver coins, a value equal to 10 months of his salary at this bar. Erland received the money carefully as if to confirm its authenticity. He hurriedly put away the silver coin when he realized there were a lot of people here, maybe the money would attract attention if too much was displayed.
"Thank you," said Erland.
"Finish your job."
"I will."
Feeling that he had nothing more to say, Erland stood up and left him. His face lit up a little as he remembered the money in his pocket. What a fortune to meet that man, Erland thought.
Vincent, the owner and person who operates the bar, looked at Erland curiously.
"What do you do there?" he asked Erland.
Erland looked nervous. His mind wandered, looking for an excuse to deceive his boss.
"H-he asked for a good hunting place around this town."
Vincent nodded without further questioning. Whether he believed it or not with the reasons he gave, Erland didn't know. But he breathed a sigh of relief, no one should be able to ruin Erland's chance to receive the coffers of money.
Next, the teenager continued his work to serve food and drink orders at the bar. He worked hard while taking occasional breaks. The rain started to subside, when time had shown the sun was already high.
The rain, that had been falling since yesterday afternoon, finally subsided after one night. The men at the bar realized, it was time for work, they left the gamble and other things and started to leave the place. Erland's job also only applied at night, during the day the bar was very quiet, so no additional workers were needed.
After changing from uniform to casual clothes, he left the bar. The road looked so slippery with mud pooled from the rain. Erland had to struggle with worn sandals to keep his body from falling because of the slippery ground.
Usually, Erland will return home after his work end, and then sleep to replenish the energy in his body. But this time he wanted to send the box that belonged to the man in black.
Erland's steps stopped. Two grown men blocked his way in front. Erland knew these two people. These two men were regular costumer at Vincent Bar.
"Kid, you have something in your pocket, don't you? Give it to us," he said in a commanding tone.
Erland surveyed the surrounding situation. Then he said, "No."
Then he turned around and ran.
Suddenly, it also spurred the two adult men to chase after him. But Erland was better at running on muddy ground than the two men, which made Erland lengthen the distance between himself and the pursuers.
What Erland underestimated was the adaptation of the two of them. As someone who had experienced a real battle, the two adults immediately adjusted and quickened their run to catch up with Erland.
Erland's eyes lit up when he saw in front of him was a market with a high crowd. Erland then cleverly ran between the gaps of the adults. Meanwhile, the pursuers seemed a bit difficult to penetrate the crowd of people.
Erland then ran towards a quiet alley and left the market area. He kept running with all his might. But he had to stop running when he saw that there was a hole deep enough to cut off the small alley.
"Unlucky."
Erland cursed in annoyance as the pursuers behind him came into view. He looked around, then his eyes saw a very long wooden stick. He then raised the stick as he backed away, little by little.
"Kid, if you run again, we'll really teach you a lesson at your place to work! You know that's the only place you work, right?!" One of the pursuers shouted with all his might, trying to scare Erland.
But Erland ignored him. He then ran and stuck the wooden stick at the bottom of the hole and used it as a support, so his body could jump to the other side.
He managed to do it perfectly. Erland reached the other side. He immediately picked up the stick again and threw it where the two pursuers couldn't reach.
Sure enough, the two pursuers stopped running because the hole was blocked the way. They could only silently watch Erland ran further and further.
"Are we going to jump?" suggested one of the pursuers.
"The other end is too slippery. I don't want to fall into this hole. It looks like it's quite deep."
"Then what about the boy?"
"Let's just go. Maybe Vincent is exaggerating, how could a stranger entrust such a precious treasure to a boy like him."
The other man nodded, accepting his friend's opinion.
The two then turned away.

On the other hand, Erland had arrived at his destination. Black Owl Street was a street inhabited by rather luxurious houses. You could say this was the area of the rich people. The road was not too muddy because a bunch of flat stones arranged to form a straight road that was beautiful and clear of mud.
Erland's gaze wandered about, enjoying the immaculate scenery that he rarely encountered. The people here had good clothes, so it looks very flashy with Erland's ugly and dull clothes. They watched Erland with disdain.
Erland decided to ignore those stares and continued to search for the house he was aiming for. He then stopped at a two-story mansion that was quite spacious.
Standing in front of the fence, Erland rattled the bell.
Soon a woman came out of the house. The woman looked very beautiful in a dress that obviously pretty expensive. Her hair was pure blonde, similar to the nobles that Erland knew.
"What do you need?" She asked politely.
Erland shook his head, trying to dispel his mesmerized thoughts.
He then said, "I was entrusted with something to give to you by someone."
The woman nodded as if she understood something.
"Then come in first."
Erland was surprised. He had never entered a house as luxurious as this. He doubted whether he deserved to enter this house?
"Hurry up."
Finally, he followed the woman and entered the courtyard of her house. The woman opened the entrance and gave Erland a sign to enter first. Erland took off the sandals he was wearing and stepped up into the woman's house.
But just as he entered that house, his consciousness disappeared.
