HAZEL THE BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS
CHAPTER 1&2
*HAZEL THE BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS*
THE GARDEN AT 5PM*
The palace didn’t smell like roses today.
It smelled like blood and secrets.
Hazel pressed her back against the cold marble wall outside Lucian’s study. Her heart was hitting her ribs so hard she thought the guards would hear it.
“No, no, no,” she whispered. “That can’t be possible.”
But she’d heard it with her own ears.
“Lydia was seen at the border market,” the maid had whispered to the chef an hour ago. “And she looks barely 20. Younger than Princess Irene.”
Lydia. Her mother.
Dead for 14 years. Buried in the royal tomb with a crown on her head and a dagger in her chest.
If Lydia was alive, then who was Hazel?
And why was Irene almost her age?
The door to the study slammed open and the questions died in her throat.
“Lucian! Lucian!”
Klara’s voice cut through the hall like a knife. Sharp. Possessive. Used to getting what she wanted.
Hazel ducked behind a pillar. Her breath caught. Her hands were shaking.
Lucian.
Her husband.
The crown prince who married her for politics and kept Klara for everything else.
“What do you want?” Klara snapped. Her red heels clicked closer. “You could have called me. Did you dial me by accident, or are you finally learning my number?”
Hazel closed her eyes. This was the part where he would lie. Again. The part where her chest would crack open and she’d have to smile at dinner like nothing happened.
“Be grateful I called at all,” Lucian said. His voice was smooth. Bored. The same voice he used with her at dinner. The same voice he used when he signed the marriage contract 2 years ago. “Tomorrow. Tell the guards to deliver the Valentine gifts to Hazel’s parents.”
Hazel’s chest tightened.
He remembered.
After 2 years of cold nights and colder words, he still remembered her parents were dead and that she had no one to send flowers to except their graves.
“Are you done?” Klara asked. “Can I go now?”
“Wait.” Lucian paused. Hazel could picture him running a hand through his black hair. Tired. “You didn’t tell me what you want for Valentine’s Day.”
The hallway went silent.
Even the torches on the wall seemed to stop flickering.
Hazel dug her nails into her palms. Don’t cry. Don’t you dare cry. Not here. Not where the maids could see.
Klara laughed. It was ugly. “What’s the use? You have a mistress now.”
The word hit Hazel like a slap.
_Wife_. She was his wife. Not mistress. Not a secret.
But that’s how she felt every night she ate alone.
“Hazel is not my mistress,” Lucian said. And for the first time in months, there was anger in his voice. Real anger. “She is my wife.”
“I don’t care,” Klara said.
Footsteps. Then the door closed.
Hazel slid down the pillar. Her knees shook. Her vision blurred.
_Wife_.
The title felt empty when he only said it to defend her to another woman.
---
Her room was too big. Too quiet.
White curtains. White bed. White everything.
Like a tomb. Like the palace was already mourning her.
Hazel sat on the floor and stared at her hands.
How do you tell the man you married that you’re in love with him?
How do you tell him you’re tired of being the second choice in your own marriage?
How do you tell him that every time he said Klara’s name, something in her died?
The door opened. No knock.
Lucian.
He looked tired. Black suit, tie loose. Hair messy like he’d been dragging his hands through it.
But his eyes weren’t on her. Not at first. They scanned the room like he was looking for someone else. Like he expected Klara to jump out.
“What are you doing here?” Hazel asked. Her voice came out smaller than she wanted.
“I came to see you,” Lucian said.
Hazel laughed. It sounded bitter even to her. “Why? Klara isn’t here to get jealous.”
Lucian’s jaw ticked. “She is here. I just... don’t feel like seeing her.”
Hope. Stupid, dangerous hope clawed up Hazel’s throat.
She stood up too fast. She needed to leave before she said something she couldn’t take back. Before she begged.
But his hand caught her wrist. Warm. Strong. He pulled her back until her back hit his chest.
“Lucian, let go of me,” she whispered. “You love Klara. Not me.”
His whole body went still behind her. She could feel his heartbeat. Fast. Angry. Like the words hurt him to hear.
“I don’t love her,” he said. The words were low, rough. “I never did.”
Hazel turned in his arms. Looked up at him. At the man who’d signed a contract to marry her and never signed one to stay. At the man who made her feel like a ghost in her own home.
“Then who do you love?” she asked.
For half a second, something flickered in his grey eyes. Something raw. Something real. Something that looked a lot like grief.
“If you want to know,” Lucian said, “find out tomorrow. Garden. 5pm sharp. Don’t be late.”
He let her go and walked out.
The door clicked shut.
Hazel sank to the floor.
5pm. The garden.
A confession? A goodbye? Another humiliation?
Outside her window, movement.
Irene.
Standing in the courtyard below, looking up at Lucian as he left. And smiling.
Like she already knew what would happen at 5pm.
Then Irene looked up. Straight at Hazel’s window. And her smile got wider.
Hazel’s blood went cold.
She ran. Down the hall. Down the stairs. Bare feet on marble.
She knocked on Irene’s door with shaking hands.
“Can I come in, Irene?”
The door opened. Irene was radiant. Hair perfect. Dress perfect. Pink and gold. Like she’d already won.
“Of course, my princess,” Irene said.
“Please,” Hazel whispered. “Don’t call me that. Just call me Hazel.”
Irene tilted her head. Her smile didn’t reach her eyes.
“Okay... pri- Hazel.”
_[Subtitle: She knows something.]_
The thought wasn’t Hazel’s.
It was clear, in her head, in a voice that wasn’t hers. Female. Cold. Familiar.
Hazel staggered back.
“What?”
Irene blinked. Innocent. “What?”
“Nothing,” Hazel lied. Her hands were shaking. “I just... I’ll see you tomorrow.”
She ran back to her room and locked the door.
She pressed both hands to her temples.
That voice. That _subtitle_.
She’d heard it once before. The night her mother died. The night the palace burned and they pulled her from the fire saying "Lydia is dead."
And now it was back.
Tomorrow at 5pm, in the garden, Lucian was going to choose.
Klara. Or her.
And someone in this palace was listening to every thought she had.
Hazel looked at her reflection in the mirror.
White dress. White face.
The Beautiful Princess.
She whispered to the empty room: “I’m not afraid anymore.”
_[Subtitle: Good. Because you should be.]_
The voice was gone.
Outside, the bells tolled. 5pm was 18 hours away.
_[End of Chapter 1]_
---
*CHAPTER 2: THE BOY IN THE GARDEN*
5pm came with thunder.
The sky over the royal garden was grey and heavy. The roses were closed. Even the fountain was quiet.
Hazel stood by the marble statue of the first queen. Her hands were clenched. White dress. No crown.
She was 20 minutes early.
Because if Lucian was going to break her, she wanted to get it over with.
Footsteps behind her.
Not Lucian.
Too light. Too fast.
Hazel turned.
A boy.
About her age. Maybe 19. Messy black hair. A scar across his left eyebrow. And eyes that looked like he’d seen war.
He wore servant clothes. But he didn’t bow.
“You’re early,” he said.
Hazel took a step back. “Who are you?”
“The gardener’s son,” he said. “Name’s Kael.”
Kael. The name hit her like ice.
The second prince. The "spare" who was sent away at age 6 because he was "too wild for the throne."
Lucian’s brother.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” Hazel said.
“Neither are you,” Kael replied. He tilted his head. “Especially not alone. Especially not with how the guards have been doubled since last night.”
Hazel’s stomach dropped. “What do you know?”
“I know you got a letter 2 weeks ago,” Kael said. “I know it said ‘Your real fate begins tonight.’ I know you’ve been hearing voices.”
Hazel went cold. “How—”
“Because I sent the letter,” Kael said simply.
The wind stopped. Even the air felt heavy.
“You?” Hazel whispered.
“I needed to see if the stories were true,” Kael said. He stepped closer. “If the Beautiful Princess really makes flowers grow when she cries. If she really hears the dead.”
Tears burned Hazel’s eyes. She was scared. She was angry. She was so tired.
And at her feet, three white lilies pushed up through the stone path.
Kael stared at them. “So it’s true.”
Before Hazel could answer, torches flared at the garden gate.
“Search the gardens! The princess is missing! His Highness is looking for her!”
Guards.
“Run,” Kael grabbed her hand. His hand was warm. Calloused. “If they catch you out here with me, they’ll say you’re cheating. They’ll lock you in the tower.”
Hazel didn’t think. She ran with him.
Through hedges. Over fountains. Her dress tearing, her heart pounding.
For the first time in 2 years, she wasn’t the Beautiful Princess. She was just Hazel. Running. Free.
They stopped behind the old library. Both breathing hard.
Kael looked at her. Really looked at her. “The letter said your fate begins tonight. I think... I think it meant you meeting me.”
Hazel pulled her hand away. “Why me?”
“Because you’re not like them,” Kael said. “And because the crown didn’t choose Lucian’s wife. It chose you. That means something.”
From far away, they heard a voice shout: “Check the library!”
Kael pushed open a hidden door in the ivy-covered wall. “In here. Quick.”
Hazel hesitated for one second. Then she followed him into the dark.
Because maybe Kael was right.
Maybe her real fate _was_ beginning tonight.
---
Inside was dust and old books and the smell of paper.
Kael lit a candle. His face looked younger in the light.
“Why did you send the letter?” Hazel asked.
“Because 14 years ago, I saw what they did to your mother,” Kael said. “And I saw them lie about it. Lydia wasn’t killed by rebels. She was killed by the council. Because she had the same power you have.”
Hazel’s knees gave out. She sat on the floor.
“The subtitles,” she whispered. “The voice.”
“Royal blood with spirit-sight,” Kael said. “It skips generations. Your mother had it. Now you do.”
_[Subtitle: He’s telling the truth.]_
The voice again. In her head.
Hazel gasped. “Do you hear that?”
Kael shook his head. “Only you do. That’s the point.”
The door to the library
(CHAPTER 3)
*HAZEL THE BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS*
*CHAPTER 3: THE TRUTH ABOUT LYDIA*
Darkness.
Then pain.
Hazel hit the library floor hard. Her head spun.
"Lights!" someone shouted.
Torches flared to life.
She was on the ground. Kael was in front of her, arms out like a shield.
Lucian stood 3 feet away, chest heaving. His eyes were still gold.
And 6 guards had swords pointed at all of them.
"Your Highness," the captain said to Lucian. "Step away from the princess."
Lucian didn’t move. He was staring at Hazel. At her hand.
At the hand that was still holding Kael’s.
"Let go," Lucian said. Quiet. Dangerous.
Hazel looked down. She was.
She dropped Kael’s hand like it burned.
_[Subtitle: Good girl.]_
The voice in her head again. Cold. Familiar.
Hazel gasped. "Who are you?"
Everyone froze.
"Who?" Kael asked.
"The voice," Hazel whispered. "In my head."
Lucian’s expression cracked. Just for a second.
"Get up," he said. "Now."
---
They were dragged to the throne room.
No trial. No questions.
Just King Malric sitting on the throne, looking 10 years older than last week.
"Hazel," the King said. "Explain."
Hazel stood between Lucian and Kael. Two brothers. Two choices.
"I was in the garden," she said. "Kael found me. Then the guards came."
"Lies," Klara’s voice cut in. She was standing by the king, in red.
"She was sneaking around with the spare prince. Cheating."
Kael laughed. Bitter. "I’m her brother-in-law. And I saved her life."
"Enough," the King slammed his hand down. "Lucian. Is this true?"
Lucian didn’t look at Hazel. "She was alone. I found her with him."
A lie.
Hazel’s heart broke.
_[Subtitle: I told you he was lying.]_
"Take her to the east tower," the King said. "Until the wedding."
Hazel blinked. "What wedding?"
"Yours," Klara smiled. "To Lord Bren. The council arranged it. Since you clearly can’t behave with your husband."
The room tilted.
Lord Bren. 50 years old. Three dead wives.
"No," Hazel said. "I’m already married."
"Not for long," the King said. "The contract can be broken. For treason."
Kael stepped forward. "Father, don’t—"
"Silence!" The King pointed at the guards. "Take her."
Hands grabbed Hazel’s arms.
That’s when the lights flickered.
And the voice spoke. Not in her head.
Out loud. Through her.
"STOP."
Everyone froze.
White light poured from Hazel’s eyes. From her mouth.
And her voice wasn’t hers anymore. It was older. Sad. Royal.
"The council killed me," the voice said through Hazel. "And you all watched."
The torches went out.
In the dark, everyone could see it.
Black marks crawling up the King’s neck.
Lydia.
---
When the lights came back, Hazel was on her knees.
Gasping. Crying.
And the King was staring at her like he’d seen a ghost.
"Get her out," the King whispered. "To the dungeons. Now."
"Father—" Lucian started.
"NOW!"
---
The dungeon smelled like iron and old fear.
Hazel sat on the stone floor, shaking.
Kael was in the cell next to her.
"You okay?" he asked through the bars.
Hazel nodded. "What happened to me?"
"You channeled her," Kael said. "Your mother. Spirit-Sight doesn’t just hear the dead. It lets them speak through you. When you’re angry enough."
_[Subtitle: Hello, baby girl.]_
Hazel jolted. "Mom?"
The air got cold.
A shape formed in front of the bars. Translucent. Beautiful. Wearing a crown and a bloody dress.
Lydia.
"Oh," Lydia whispered. "You’re so big."
Hazel couldn’t breathe. "You’re alive?"
"I’m dead," Lydia said, sad. "But I’m stuck. Because of what they did to me. And because of you."
"Me?"
"The power passes down," Lydia said. "But it needs a trigger. Grief. Betrayal. Love.
That’s why you’re hearing me now. Because Lucian is going to betray you at 5pm. Again."
Hazel’s chest caved in. "What?"
"The garden meeting," Lydia said. "It wasn’t to confess. It was to arrest you.
The council thinks if they kill you, the power dies with you."
The cell door opened.
Lucian walked in. Alone.
He looked at Lydia’s ghost. Then at Hazel.
And he dropped to his knees.
"I’m sorry," he said.
---
"Get up," Hazel said. Her voice was dead.
"I can’t," Lucian said. "Not until you hear me out."
"Then talk," Kael snapped from the next cell. "Before I break these bars."
Lucian looked at Hazel. Really looked at her.
"5pm wasn’t about me choosing," he said. "It was about me saving you.
The council voted today. They want you gone. They think you’re dangerous."
"So you were going to hand me over?" Hazel asked.
"I was going to fake it," Lucian said. "I was going to arrest you, then help you run.
With Kael. Out of Veloria. Tonight."
Hazel laughed. It hurt. "And Klara?"
"A distraction," Lucian said. "If everyone thinks I love her, they won’t look at you."
_[Subtitle: He’s telling the truth.]_
Lydia’s voice in her head. Soft.
Hazel stared at Lucian. At the man who married her in a contract.
"Why?" she whispered. "Why help me?"
Lucian’s jaw ticked. "Because 14 years ago, I watched them kill your mother.
And I did nothing. I won’t do nothing again."
Silence.
From upstairs, they heard shouting. Bells.
"Prisoner escape!"
"The princess is gone!"
The council had found out.
Lucian stood up and pulled a key from his pocket.
"Choice time, Hazel," he said. "Come with me. Run.
Or stay and marry Lord Bren and die."
He held out his hand.
Hazel looked at Kael. Then at her mother’s ghost.
Then at Lucian’s hand.
She took it.
The moment their fingers touched, the dungeon doors exploded. The council was here.

*CHAPTER 4: THE ESCAPE*
The dungeon doors exploded in fire and smoke.
Hazel’s hand was still in Lucian’s.
"Run!" he shouted.
They ran.
Kael kicked his cell bars until they bent. "Took you long enough!"
Guards poured in from both sides. Swords up. "Seize the traitors!"
Lucian shoved Hazel behind him. "Stay close."
_[Subtitle: Left. Now.]_
Lydia’s voice.
Hazel grabbed Lucian’s sleeve and yanked him left, down a side tunnel she’d never seen.
"How did you—" Lucian started.
"No time," Hazel panted.
Behind them, Kael was fighting 3 guards with a broken chain. "Go! I’ll catch up!"
They didn’t.
They ran through dark stone halls, past torches, past old cells.
The sound of bells and shouting followed them.
"Where are we going?" Hazel asked.
"The stables," Lucian said. "Then the border. If we make it past the wall before dawn, the council can’t touch us."
His hand was sweating in hers.
This was the first time he’d touched her without anger in 2 years.
They burst into the stables. 4 guards were already there.
Lucian didn’t hesitate. He threw a punch, grabbed a sword from the wall, and took them all down in 10 seconds.
He was breathing hard when he turned to her. Blood on his knuckles.
"Get on," he said, pointing to a black horse.
Hazel climbed up. Lucian jumped behind her and pulled her back against his chest.
His arms came around her waist to grab the reins.
For one second, they were frozen like that.
_[Subtitle: He’s scared for you.]_
"Don’t," Hazel whispered.
"Don’t what?" Lucian asked.
"Don’t be kind now. Not if you’re going to betray me later."
Lucian’s jaw clenched. "I’m not."
He kicked the horse. They flew out of the stables.
---
The palace was waking up. Alarms. Torches.
"Close the gates!" someone screamed.
Too late.
They hit the main gate at full speed. 20 guards blocked it.
Lucian pulled the horse to a stop.
"Lucian Veloria," the captain said. "Stand down. Hand over the princess."
Lucian looked down at Hazel. His grey eyes were serious.
"Trust me?" he asked.
Hazel nodded once.
Lucian raised his sword. "For Veloria."
He charged.
It was chaos. Steel on steel. Horses screaming.
Lucian fought like a man possessed. Protecting her with his body.
A guard’s blade came for Hazel. Lucian took it in his shoulder.
"LUCIAN!" Hazel screamed.
He grunted but didn’t fall. "Hold on."
And then—hoofbeats.
Kael. On a second horse. Sword in hand.
"Move!" he shouted and crashed into the guards from the side.
The gate was open.
"GO!" Kael yelled.
Lucian spurred the horse. They shot through.
Behind them, the palace burned in the distance. Torches and shouting.
They didn’t stop until the forest.
---
They stopped by a river. Night. Cold.
Lucian slid off the horse first, then helped Hazel down.
His shoulder was bleeding.
"Let me see," Hazel said.
"It’s fine," Lucian said. But his face was pale.
Hazel tore a piece of her white dress and pressed it to his wound. Her hands were shaking.
"Why did you do that?" she whispered. "Take the blade for me?"
Lucian looked at her. Really looked at her.
"Because I already let them kill your mother," he said. "I’m not letting them kill you too."
Hazel’s breath caught. "You don’t have to—"
"I do," Lucian cut her off. "Hazel. The contract marriage... it was never about politics.
The council forced me. They said if I didn’t marry you, they’d kill you that night.
So I signed it. To keep you alive."
The world stopped.
"All this time," Hazel whispered. "You..."
"I was an i***t," Lucian said. "I thought if I stayed cold, they wouldn’t suspect I cared.
Then Klara showed up and it got easier to pretend."
_[Subtitle: He’s telling the truth.]_
Tears fell down Hazel’s face. One hit the ground.
A white lily grew instantly at her feet.
Lucian stared at it. "So it’s real."
Footsteps.
Kael. He looked exhausted but alive. "We need to move. The council will track us by morning."
Lucian stood up, wincing. "We’re going to the border village. Lydia was seen there."
Hazel gasped. "Mom?"
"Yes," Lucian said. "If anyone knows how to hide you, it’s her."
Kael mounted his horse. "Then we ride."
---
They rode all night.
At dawn, they reached the border village. Small. Poor. Nothing like the palace.
And there, in the market, standing by a flower stall...
Lydia.
She looked 20. Exactly like Hazel, but older. Wearing simple clothes. No crown.
She turned. And saw them.
Her eyes filled with tears.
"Hazel," she whispered.
Hazel slid off the horse and ran.
Mother and daughter crashed into each other.
Lydia held Hazel’s face. "You look just like me."
"I thought you were dead," Hazel cried.
"I was," Lydia said. "They killed me. But Spirit-Sight... it doesn’t let go easily.
I’ve been hiding. Waiting for you to wake up."
Lucian and Kael stood back, watching.
Lydia looked at them. "You brought her here. Both of you."
"We’re taking her away," Lucian said. "From Veloria. From the council."
Lydia shook her head. "No. If you run, they’ll hunt her forever.
The only way to end this is to go back. And take the throne."
Silence.
"The throne?" Hazel said.
"The council killed me because I had Spirit-Sight," Lydia said. "They’re scared of it.
If you claim it, if the people see what you can do... they can’t kill you.
You’ll be Queen."
Hazel looked at Lucian. At Kael.
_[Subtitle: Choose.]_
The voice wasn’t Lydia’s. It was something older.
Lucian stepped forward. "Then we go back."
Kael nodded. "And we fight."
Lydia smiled. Sad. Proud. "My daughter."
In the distance, they heard horns.
Royal horns.
"The council," Kael said. "They found us."
An army was coming over the hill. Banners of Veloria.
Lucian drew his sword. "Get behind me."
Hazel stood up. Wiped her tears.
White lilies started growing in a circle around her feet.
She looked at the army. At the palace. At her future.
"I’m not running anymore," Hazel said.

*CHAPTER 5: THE BATTLE FOR THE THRONE*
The palace burned.
Torches lit the night as the Council’s guards surrounded the throne room.
Hazel stood in the middle, shaking. The voices in her head were screaming.
Lilies burst from the floor at her feet. Spirit-Sight was awake.
*"Give us the girl,"* King Malric commanded. *"Spirit-Sight dies tonight."*
Lucian drew his sword. Cold eyes, but his hand found Hazel’s.
*"Over my dead body."*
Kael stepped in front of them both. *"You killed our mother. You won’t kill her too."*
Klara laughed from the shadows with Irene beside her.
*"Finally. The throne will be mine."*
The Council attacked.
Swords clashed. Blood on marble.
Lucian fought like a storm. Kael took a blade for Hazel.
Hazel screamed. The room went white.
Lilies exploded everywhere. The voices stopped.
When the light faded, the Council guards were on their knees, crying.
And at the door stood Lydia.
*"You missed,"* she whispered to the King. *"14 years ago."*
The throne room went silent.
*TO BE CONTINUED...*
*CHAPTER 6: MOTHER AND DAUGHTER*
The throne room was still.
14 years of silence shattered in one breath.
*"Mother?"* Hazel’s voice broke.
Lydia stepped forward. Older. Scarred. But her eyes glowed the same silver as Hazel’s.
Spirit-Sight.
King Malric raised his sword. *"Kill her."*
The guards didn’t move. They were still crying on the lilies Hazel made.
Lucian pulled Hazel behind him. *"Touch her and I’ll kill you myself."*
Kael, bleeding on the floor, managed a smirk. *"Took you long enough, Mother."*
Lydia ignored them all. She walked straight to Hazel and cupped her face.
Tears fell. Where they hit the stone, lilies grew.
*"You hear them too,"* Lydia whispered. *"The voices. I’m so sorry I left you."*
*"You didn’t leave me,"* Hazel cried. *"They said you were dead."*
*"The Council lied,"* Lydia said. *"Because they’re afraid. Of us."*
Klara screamed. *"This isn’t fair! I was supposed to be Queen!"*
Irene grabbed her arm. *"Run. Now."*
But it was too late.
The palace doors burst open. The people were coming.
*TO BE CONTINUED...
*CHAPTER 7: THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE*
The palace doors slammed open.
Not guards. The people.
Hundreds of them. Farmers, servants, merchants. Torches in hand.
*"We heard the voices!"* an old woman shouted. *"The Princess called us!"*
Hazel stepped forward, still holding Lydia’s hand. Lilies grew with every step.
The air felt different. Lighter.
King Malric’s face went red. *"Guards! Arrest them all!"*
No one moved. The guards were on their knees, weeping.
*"14 years ago you killed the Queen,"* Lydia’s voice echoed. Magic carried it.
*"You lied. You murdered. And you tried to kill our daughter."*
The crowd roared. *"TRAITOR! TRAITOR!"*
Klara tried to run. The people blocked her.
Irene fell to her knees. *"It was the King’s orders! Not me!"*
Lucian raised his sword, not at the people, but at his father.
*"Abdicate. Or we take the throne."*
Kael, bleeding but standing, looked at Hazel. *"Your turn, Princess."*
All eyes turned to Hazel.
The voices in her head went quiet. For the first time, she spoke with her own.
*"I claim the throne. For my mother. For our people."*
Light exploded from her. And the crown floated onto her head.
*TO BE CONTINUED
*CHAPTER 8: THE NEW QUEEN*
Silence.
Then cheers shook the palace walls.
The crown of silver lilies settled on Hazel’s head. It fit.
Lydia stood behind her, proud. Lucian and Kael flanked her, both wounded but alive.
*"Kneel,"* Hazel said. Her voice didn’t shake.
The Council fell to their knees. Even King Malric.
*"Father,"* Lucian said, cold. *"You’re under arrest for treason and murder."*
Klara was sobbing. *"I can explain—"*
*"Take her away,"* Hazel cut her off. *"And Irene too."*
The guards finally moved. They dragged the traitors out.
The people chanted: *"HAZEL! HAZEL! HAZEL!"*
Later, in the quiet throne room, Hazel touched the crown.
It was heavy.
*"Are you scared?"* Kael asked her.
*"Yes,"* she admitted. *"But the voices are gone. For the first time... it’s just me."*
Lydia smiled and tucked a lily behind Hazel’s ear.
*"Then rule with your heart, my daughter. That’s what Spirit-Sight was always for."*
Outside, the palace gardens bloomed overnight.
*TO BE CONTINUED...*
*CHAPTER 9: THE FIRST DECREE*
Dawn. The throne room smelled like lilies.
Hazel sat on the throne for the first time. It didn’t feel like a cage anymore.
Lucian stood to her right. Kael to her left. Lydia sat beside her, no crown, just her hand on Hazel’s.
The Royal Council was gone. New faces filled the seats. Teachers. Healers. Farmers.
*"First decree,"* Hazel said. Her voice echoed.
*"Spirit-Sight is not a curse. It is a gift. From today, no one will be hunted for it again."*
The room erupted in applause.
*"Second decree,"* she continued. *"The palace gardens will be open to everyone. Food from the royal farms goes to the hungry."*
Kael grinned. *"Dad’s gonna hate that from prison."*
Lucian shot him a look. *"Kael."*
*"What? It’s true."*
Lydia squeezed Hazel’s hand. *"One more?"*
Hazel nodded. Took a breath.
*"Third decree. I choose who stands beside me. Not the Council. Not politics. Me."*
She looked at Lucian. Then at Kael.
*"Both of you."*
The people cheered again. Outside, the lilies kept growing.
*TO BE CONTINUED...*
*CHAPTER 10: WHISPERS IN THE DARK*
One week later.
Klara and Irene escaped prison. They struck a deal with old Council lords.
*"If we can’t have the throne, no one will."*
They poisoned the palace water. Lilies started dying.
Lucian found out first. *"It’s an attack."*
Hazel’s Spirit-Sight screamed. The voices returned, but this time they showed her the antidote: a rare silver lily.
*CHAPTER 11: THE LAST LILY*
Hazel ran to the royal gardens alone at midnight.
Klara was waiting with a knife. *"Die, fake Queen."*
They fought. Hazel didn’t use magic. She used truth.
*"My mother didn’t abandon me. You lied."*
Klara broke down and dropped the knife. The guards took her.
Hazel found the silver lily. She crushed it into the water. The kingdom was saved.
*CHAPTER 12: EPILOGUE - THE QUEEN’S HEART*
6 months later.
The kingdom was at peace. Gardens bloomed everywhere.
Hazel stood on the balcony with Lydia, Lucian, and Kael.
*"Who do you choose?"* Kael teased.
