Chapter 9

It was not surprising that what happened at the Grandeur Hotels made the news. People were calling Luthan The Mysterious Multi-millionaire and there were speculations. Soon enough a photo began to circulate among blogs, it was the vaguest and most blurry picture of him at the hotel and you couldn't really identify him from the pictures but many of the people who attended the Carter’s party were easily convinced that it was Luthan. His name was soon flying about doubtfully but he didn't mind at all. He was fine with simply taking care of Mary Lynn while plans were being made for her surgery. Although he didn't mind, someone else was using the rumors to their advantage. Anthony realized early that they could use Luthan's new and sudden fame to draw in investors. Afterall, Luthan still had the last name King. There were a few people in the business circle who had heard of what happened at the Carter party but we're not there themselves. They may not have been as rich as the others who were present at the party but they were rich enough to bring the King family from the brink of bankruptcy and help them regain their house. So they sold the story of Luthan King being a long lost prodigal son who had almost ruined the family reputation. They told these people that he was only back because they had not given up on him and had given him some money to clean up his act. Their story worked just well enough. Luthan moved out of Grandeur Hotels soon and into the estate he had purchased from Raven Duke. As he helped Mary Lynn into the house, he couldn't help but laugh as she stretched out a hand to feel the air around her. The sound of his genuine laughter caught his guards by surprise. “Don't worry Mary, there's nothing there to bump into,” he assured her. “Is the house empty?” She asked. “I can tell there's a lot of light.” “No, it's not empty.” Luthan said. “It's just got a lot of space. There's a lot of light because there's a glass wall at the area you're facing.” His grip on her hand tightened. “And you can trust me Mary Lynn. I won't let anything hurt you.” Luthan felt delighted to see her slowly put her arm down. He knew it took an insane amount of trust for her to do so. He introduced her to the servants and nurses who were going to attend to her every needs when he was at work until the surgery which would take place in only a matter of days. He went back to work the next day and quickly put his plans into motion. His firm, the L.K cooperation was focused on buying out and building small businesses. Lots of things had already been put in place and he headed off to the office to oversee the process. When he was done there, he went to meet Hector Williams over a cup of tea. “Wow, this is insane!” Hector exclaimed as he pored over the documents that Luthan had produced. “I can't believe a lawyer like Barry Cage could go through with something like this. He must have felt like there was no way you'd be able to get back for him to do something this huge.” “He told me so himself,” Luthan said. “Three years ago, while he had the guards at his office beat me to a pulp. He said I would never be able to hire a good enough lawyer to win my case.” Hector laughed out loud. “I love proving people wrong. I wonder how he'd feel if he found out you hired me.” “Will you be able to make sure he gets the punishment he deserves?” Luthan asked. “You bet,” Hector said. “In fact it'll be easy. I'm going to need your cooperation to get as much details as I can get and him not being able to practice would be the least of his worries.” “Whatever you need.” Luthan said. They finished up their meeting, shook hands and left. On the way home Luthan got a call alerting him that the surgeon he flew in was in the city. The next day he went with Mary Lynn to see the two surgeons. He settled all the financial details without blinking, stayed with her through all the necessary preparation and when everything was in order the surgeries began. He was worried the entire time but luckily Mary Lynn came out of it successfully. He inhaled a breath of fresh. He knew he had made the right choice in flying in those surgeons. They were the best in the world and they completed the surgeries without any complications. He couldn't forgive himself if anything at all had gone wrong. He wanted her to watch the people who had hurt her suffer and now she could do that. His plans to buy up crashing companies were underway. He was sweeping up companies, some of which were once formidable businesses and puting them through a fix up and rebranding. He had his men look out for the best graduates from business schools and colleges all over the country to have them join his firm. He offered prices they couldn't resist and soon he had the most enviable team working in his firm. Right at that same time, Barry Cage got to know who his opponent was. He went to his usual bar after a stressful day at work, took off his jacket and loosened his tie. He ordered a drink and someone sat next to him. He didn't recognize the man at first and didn't even spare him a glance when he ordered the same thing as him. “You have good taste Mr. Barry,” the man said, finally catching Barry's attention. “What's this called?” “It's called a Challenge,” Barry said after weighing the man down, he looked harmless if a little familiar. “It's the bartender’s invention.” “Ah,” the man nodded. “It's good.” “First time here?” Barry asked, raising a brow. “I'm not sure I know you but you know me.” “Yes, I'm only in town for a case, I'm a lawyer.” the man said. “And of course I know you, everyone knows you.” Barry smiled and puffed out his chest. “As for if you know me,” the man continued. “I'd say we'd meet properly in court but I'm sure you'll find out who I am before then. I like to see my victims on friendly terms before we meet in the courtroom.” He tossed back the rest of his cocktail and dropped a hundred dollar note on the counter then nodded at the bartender. “For his drink too, you can keep the change.”
