The living room fell into complete silence as Luca slowly lifted his eyes toward Ryder.
“What actually happened over there?”
Ryder loosened the collar of his shirt before finally speaking.
“There was an illegal meeting happening there,” he said calmly. “They were selling drugs…and I got caught in the middle of it. I didn’t know anything about it.”
Luca remained silent, carefully watching his younger brother.
“The cops arrived not long after,” Ryder continued. “Everything turned into chaos.”
A heavy silence filled the room again. Rain continued pouring outside the mansion windows while the dim lights above cast cold shadows across the room.
“What about the girl?”
Ryder immediately looked up. “She saw too much tonight.”
“She’s not involved.”
Luca let out a quiet chuckle. “That's exactly what worries me.”
Ryder's jaw tightened.
“She doesn’t know who we are.”
“For now.”
The atmosphere instantly became tense again. Luca placed the glass down onto the table before leaning back against the couch.
“You brought a civilian into our world, Ryder,” he muttered calmly. “That alone makes her dangerous.”
“I had no choice.”
“There’s always a choice.”
Ryder remained silent.
For the first time, Luca studied his younger brother carefully.
Then his eyes narrowed slightly. “You’re getting attached.”
Ryder's expression darkened immediately. “Don’t start.”
Luca smirked faintly. “That bad, huh?”
“She’s tired, leave her out of this.”
Luca stared at him for a long moment before sighing softly.
“You're exactly like father.”
That sentence alone was enough to make Ryder look away.
Luca noticed it immediately.
“I don’t care what kind of life you choose,” Luca muttered. “But at least take care of yourself.”
Ryder stayed silent.
“And another thing…” Luca continued. “Sooner or later, you’ll have to take over the family company.”
His sharp eyes locked onto Ryder.
“You already know I have my own company. I’m not interested in taking over Father’s business.”
Luca paused for a moment before adding,
“So how long are you planning to keep working at that place? And what about that bar of yours?”
Ryder let out a slow breath before finally answering.
“I’ll take over the company when the time is right.”
Luca raised an eyebrow slightly.
“It’s not because I’m not ready," Ryder continued calmly. “I just want to find the traitor first.”
His expression slowly darkened.
“And after that… maybe I’ll finally take over the family business.”
For a moment, Luca simply stared at his younger brother.
Then he sighed quietly.
Stubborn.
Ryder had always been unbelievably stubborn.
Luca rubbed his temple tiredly before speaking again.
“I heard your motorcycle gang enemy showed up earlier tonight.”
Ryder's eyes immediately hardened.
“What did he do?” Luca asked calmly while watching his younger brother.
“He was looking for you?” Luca continued.
Ryder let out a bitter chuckle.
“Of course he was.”
“He didn’t come alone either,” Ryder continued.
“A few of his men were nearby.”
The atmosphere inside the living room instantly turned colder.
“Did they see her?” Ryder stayed silent.
And the silence alone was enough for Luca to understand everything.
Luca sighed softly.
“You’re in trouble.”
“I can handle it.”
“No,” Luca muttered. “You can handle gangs. Guns. Betrayal.” His sharp eyes slowly lifted toward Ryder.
“But feelings?”
Ryder immediately looked away. Luca almost laughed at that reaction. For years, Ryder Kane had survived one dangerous situation after another.
But somehow—
One girl was enough to make him nervous.
