CHAPTER 26
They looked like kids, full of energy and reckless joy, splashing wildly and laughing loudly in the cool water. Their carefree behavior was contagious, making it impossible not to smile at the sight of them. Liam darted past me, his face lit up with childlike glee. His whole body seemed to light up with excitement, as if he’d forgotten all about the fishing trip we had planned. Instead of focusing on casting lines and waiting patiently for a bite, they threw themselves into the water with abandon, diving and giggling, completely caught up in the simple joy of the moment. My initial plan had been to sit quietly by the bank, trying my luck at catching fish with the bait and rod I’d brought along.
