The cold air from the air conditioner brushed against my skin, sending a shiver down my spine. I pulled the covers tighter around me, trying to stay warm, feeling the chill seep through the fabric. Just as I thought I’d drift back to sleep, I noticed something tugging at the edge of my blanket. “Liam, go get your own!” I mumbled groggily, expecting it to be him again, teasing me as he often did when he was bored. I was so caught up in my exhaustion and the soft hum of the AC that I didn’t think much of it. I just shrugged, turning slightly to get more comfortable, assuming it was more of Liam’s silly game. But then, out of nowhere, I heard a sharp bark. The noise cut through the quiet room. My eyes fluttered open, fuzzy from sleep, but the sound was clear. A dog was outside, or was it?
