Rick wanted to push Malik a little further. “Malik, why... why do you feel ashamed?” “Cause I care about my reputation, and if I hurt other people, then I don’t feel good about myself. And I’m no better than the kids who I consider bullies.” Malik paused. “I can’t stand bullies.” A muffled chuckle moved through the circle. Everyone knew Malik was a really good guy, and although he was a force on the football team, he would not hurt a fly. Still, the students knew what he was saying, and they could feel their own sense of responsibility setting in. “Thanks, Malik. You gave a great example. From talking with you, I think I know how important your reputation is to you. And you’re right, when we belittle someone else or make fun of them, we are bullying them, and it reflects poorly on us.”
