Glen and his brother Adrian sit on the chair, in front of the information desk in the police station. Half an hour passed since they arrived at the place. The brothers can go nowhere, therefore Glen took out five folders, his laptop from a black leathered sling bag, and he starts to type. Adrian on the other hand was on the phone, laughing with his caller. A couple of minutes before one in the afternoon strikes. Olivia and the short-haired policewoman approach them from an office room. The brothers didn’t notice them, because their full consciousness is on their devices. Olivia clears her throat, so the brothers will know they were in front of them. Glen first perceived the policewomen in front of him, he gave them a glance and focuses his eyes back on his laptop. “See, now”, he said. Olivia and the other policewoman looked at each other. The short-haired woman then replied to him, “I am sorry for the inconvenience sir, your good to go”, Glen packs up his stuff and placed it inside his bag, he called Adrian to go wait for him in the car, after he gave him the keys. Glen signed a paper the information desk handed to him and walked away, but stopped behind the glass door, of the police station. He turned around and looked at the two policewomen once more and said “By the way, I am the CEO, of Verselion construction company, my time shouldn’t be wasted for this nonsense ”, “I am really sorry, sir but we do have to obey the rules”, the woman said to her, “Do your job better next time”, Glen told her, and later on gazes at Olivia for a few seconds and walked away. Olivia steps her foot forward and was about to follow him, but the other policewoman grasps her wrist and shakes her head. “Emmy!”, Olivia said to her, “Let him be”, Emmy the short-haired policewoman smiles at her. Olivia agreed and Emmy let go of her wrist. They then walked towards Olivia’s office room. When they reached inside the office room, piles of paper were scattered on Olivia’s desk. Emmy helps Olivia to pile it up, but Olivia stopped her. She told her friend that the files are confidential, thus she’s not allowed to even touch the papers. Emmy stares at her with her arms crossed with one another. Olivia asked her why, but Emmy taught her a lesson to be more responsible on her stuff, especially when it was work-related. It’s hard to know what can go wrong if she continuous to leave these things unattended. Olivia apologized and the two sat down beside each other, on the white mini sofa. A loud roar of thunder startled both of them. The heavy rain pours and droplets of water flow on Olivia’s glass window, the breezy wind chills their skin. Olivia turns down the cold air the air conditioning breaths and rolled up the curtain on the windows. The moment she sits back, Emmy thanked her for the help Olivia gave her, even if it isn’t part of her job, yet within a few seconds, she pouted. The result shakes her nerves, the true carnapper manages to escape and brought humiliation to herself especially when she carried the wrong person to the station. Olivia tapped her forehead and called herself silly, she even recommended it to her friend, mistakes in the job are normal, granted it was not drastic. After she heard her words, Emmy looks at Olivia with her face turned bewildered. “Is everything ok with your work?”, she asked, “Yeah why?”, Olivia smirks, “Well….nothing”, Emmy uttered. Olivia didn’t respond afterwards, but she divert her topic back to Emmy, “so, do you have any leads who might be the criminal?”, she asked Emmy nods once, they have found CCTV footage of the car and its nameplate and travels on the main highway of the city. Emmy sent a team to follow the car. Olivia’s eyes become a bit widen, even though she has a straight facial expression, “That’s! Great”, she said. Olivia leans closer to her and wraps one of her arms around her shoulder, “Don’t underestimate yourself, all right!”. Emmy hugs her back and smiles at her, “Thank you”, she whispered. The rain falls stronger and stronger in the mid of the afternoon. Other than its loud roars, it does nothing but irritate Emmy and Olivia. They almost can’t hear each other, because of the clashes of heavy waters on the roofs and floor, with thunders that shatter their ears. The two took a break, from their chat, instead, Olivia brewed coffee beans, and then served two cups of black coffee on the table. Hot mist smoke from coffee rises towards their lips after they sip in their cups, and the liquid kicks their tongue with bitterness makes their nerves alive, but the best part is when they swallow the coffee it gives warm shivers inside their chest. Emmy brought a box from her office to Olivia’s, following their coffee break. She doesn’t want to be alone, in a small narrow room, with leaks on the wall. Olivia asked her if her friend requested someone to fix it, but Emmy replied, “They will come to fix it tomorrow”, Olivia didn’t react, she looked back at the paper in her hand, and Emmy took out the folders from the box. She sits down in front of Olivia and shared a desk with her. The two fell silent, thus utmost of the times, the raindrops and paper folds are the sound present in the office room. Time passes, and the rain starts to drop in individuals. Emmy noticed Olivia’s brows furrowed, and she sighed multiple times within half an hour. She wanted to ask her, earlier, but the rain didn’t give her a chance, but now it stopped, she asks Olivia about her case. “Did you visit the crime scene?”, Emmy said to her, Olivia nodded, and said, “This case won’t be easy, I hope I can find answers in no time”, she uttered “From what it sounds...you should be careful with yourself, remember your life is more important”, Emmy touches the back of her hand, “Of course, I knew it, but this is our duty, we made an oath, and within it, is a subtle promise, to put or life into the line”, Olivia said, “What about your boyfriend? Did you tell him about this?”, Olivia shakes her head, she then remembers Heath Buckley, his twenty-seven-year-old boyfriend. Most of the time she doesn’t tell Heath about the cases assigned to her, to get him away from the troubles of her situation, in that way she can save him. However, Heath works, on the City Hall in the position of a clerk, therefore he might ask her, about his boss’s case, and if the investigation is ongoing after all Heath receives a hefty amount of bonuses and he usually mentions the mayor of the city, in their dinner date, which made Olivia wanted to shut him up. She found it odd and brings a little concern. Why did he talk so much in his regards? It made Olivia even plan to follow him at work, and see what’s going on, but it would break their trust with each other, so she erased the idea in her mind. Olivia fell quiet after her friend asked her the question. Her mind went blank, probably because of loads of problems, or the whispers of negative thoughts. Olivia’s senses came back when a force shakes her arm. “Are you ok?”, Emmy asked her, “Yeah...I’m sorry”, Olivia blinks her eyes, then looked at her friend, “I think not, for now for his own safety, besides the case is complicated”, “Complicated?”, “We checked the place, and there were no passages where the murderer can escape not even a window”, Olivia said “What about the ventilation?”, “It is impossible for a person to fit in there, so we’ve guessed the killer passed through the door, without being detected”, Olivia told her, Emmy and she became speechless for a few seconds, and inside their narrowed eyes were deep thoughts. Later on, Emmy asks about the CCTV footage and evidence. Olivia didn’t react, instead, she said, “For now, it was set aside”. Out of nowhere, three knocks on the wooden door, interfere in the midst of their conversation. Olivia stands, opened it up and her boss George shows up. George moves his lips and was about to say a word, but he pauses because Emmy was inside. Olivia then signals a nod to her friend, and Emmy gets up from her chair, picked her things up and greeted George before she leaves. George and Olivia went inside and locked the door, “I wanted you to start the investigation, tomorrow”, he said. “I see”, Olivia replied, “The forensics concluded, the victim fought for his life. Here is the picture of his bruises”. Olivia scanned through all the pictures George handed her, but then she stopped at one of them. It was the scar of the victim from a bullet. “The suspect must be strong to overpower him”, she said “Perhaps”, George sighs, “The forensics also told me, there are signs of strangulation”, he shows the picture of Halbert’s blood-red eyes, swollen lips, and purplish neck. “Given to his age, the murderer must be younger”, Olivia said George agreed, but he pointed out, they shouldn’t stick with the idea yet. A surprise becomes a surprise because it is unanticipated. George walks around Olivia yet his eyes were on the glass window behind her. He pulled out a cigarette stick from his pocket, lit it up, and blew the smoke after he placed it in his mouth. A cloud of smoke trails covers the entire room, the worst part of it, is the door and window were locked. There’s no way the smoke can leave other than disperse into the air. However, it will take a few minutes, in one George’s exhale of smoke, and her boss blew a couple within a minute. The earth-like burnt smell of George’s cigarette scratches her nostrils. Olivia almost threw up, she tries not to cough, but it traps all the smoke inside her lungs. George wasn’t bothered, he continues to speak and exhaled the smoke. Olivia doesn’t understand if he can’t perceive the sickening effects of his cigarette or he simply doesn’t care. She covers her nose with her entire palm but said nothing. Olivia wanted George to take the initiative because she doesn’t want to sound like a boss in front of him, yet if she inhales more of this smoke she will pass out, therefore Olivia opened the window since there’s no rain anymore. A fresh scented cool air touches her face. She now manages to breathe out all of the stored smoke inside her nose. A soothe of air flows in her body when Olivia inhales. Those three minutes of suffocation caused Olivia not to understand her boss’s mumbled words. George seems to be in the middle of a story. He describes how a man got into the situation, but Oliva doesn’t have a clue who is it, about. Olivia doesn’t want to pretend she heard her boss’s words, what if the story is important, it’s not worth the risk to stay silent, so she asked “I’m sorry, sir, can you repeat it?”, George stares at her before he walks to the window and threw a cigarette. “You didn’t listen, did you?”, he smirks. “I do apologize, sir, I am not used to the scent of a cigarette”, she then coughs “It’s fine”, he sits down, “Forget about it” George pauses, for a few seconds, He strokes her chin a couple of times then said, “Start your interrogation tomorrow and report to me daily”, “Noted, sir”, Olivia bows her head a little “Good luck and be careful, I believe you won’t let me down”, George stands up, then walks out of her office room. The moment he leaves Olivia places her hands on her chest. She takes a deep sigh.
