Sunday, seven in the morning. At one of the many villas in the city, lies a two-story white modern house. The wide black intricate gate of the house opens when a yellow sports car drives towards inside. Two men in white uniform, guard each end of the gate. The sports car stops in the middle of the house beside the huge different-colored pool. The light flashes on the water vary from violet, green, yellow, and pink within a few seconds. The car door opens and Glen Hopkins steps his foot out. The guards greeted him with a smile and delight, they then showed him the way inside the house. At the time, they walked through the corridors, he couldn’t help but stare at the gigantic pictures, portraits, and framed certificates throughout the wall. Glen smirks and shakes his head, all of a sudden one of the guards called him, “Sir this way”. They stopped at a double wooden door, where the guard gestures his hand. Glen nodded and shook each guard’s hand without a word he proceeds into the room. His action causes confusion to both guards, but when they opened their hands, folded paper bills lays on their palms. Melvin Reads, the round-bellied middle-aged congressman, Glen met at the party, stands up from his chair, and gave Glen a huge smile. “Mr. Hopkins!”, Melvin offers his hands. Glen grips and shakes it, “It’s nice to see you again, Congressman Reads”, he said. The congressman then laughs, “No need for formalities, have a seat”. The two of them settle at the table in the middle of the room. A bottle of wine sits at the top of the table, with two glasses beside it, Melvin did prepare for Glen’s arrival. “I am really glad you could still remember me” Glen uttered “How could I not, you invested enough money for my campaign”, Melvin afterward leans a bit forward to the table, “I know, I have to repay it”, he then taps Glen’s shoulders. Men at politics, Glen needed these people, but they somehow disgust his guts. They all have the same faces. Empathic, compassionate, strong-willed leaders from the outside, but their heart fuels for power and wealth. Some of them didn’t even bother to play the roles they were assigned to. The welfare of people never crosses their minds. Politicians are the greatest hypocrites Glen knew, therefore he disdains them, Melvin seems to be one of these politicians. However, he must do this to fulfill his ambitions, so he replied, “Of course”, Glen couldn’t bother to argue his initial intentions are far different from what Melvin thinks, because this is the response Melvin anticipates, if he answered his point the congressman might feel he was an impostor. “Well, you went into the right person”, Melvin pours wine into the glass and hands it on him. “So, what can I do for you?”, he asked Glen. “Simple”, Glen takes a sip of the wine then puts it on the table, “Approve my business operation here,” he said, and Melvin argues, “It’s impossible!”, he raises his voice, “I am not the mayor”, “I know”, Glen smiles at him, “but you and Martin May are close political allies for decades”. Melvin becomes speechless and stares into his eyes. He leans his back on the chair and sighs, “I’ll see what I can do”, “Make sure...and there’s one more thing I want you to promise me”, Glen said, which causes Melvin to sigh again, “I will pay you another set for this second one”, Glen added. Melvin didn’t say a single word, Glen can understand the congressman tries to be cautious, he awaits his words first before he agrees, thus, Glen spat his condition, since it will change nothing either he will say it first or not. “Even for a bit, help the people and improve the city”, Glen said The congressman’s eyes then widen a little, he stared at Glen for a few seconds with his brows furrowed, “You interest me”, he uttered. Glen chuckles, “You flatter me”, “Every politician in the city says you are a mysterious person because they can’t understand your goals, now I see it to myself,” Melvin said and pours wine again but in another glass. “Well, there’s more to know about me”, Glen told him, Melvin then jokes if he belittles him, for his position, Glen disagreed and said, he want to make sure, the people will elect a true leader. The congressman laughs, he wasn’t elected yet how did he know he was going to win. Glen explains to him, how he got himself caught into the middle of politics because it’s crucial in the country to grip on a powerful person if you want to grow, or else you will be trampled. His face straightens up when he discusses his point but didn’t say a single detail about who he refers to and why. Its been six years, since he started to plant this value in his heart. Their conversation went deeper and deeper, and also it took longer than it was supposed to, which made Melvin drop his defenses and tell some of his experiences and story, but after ten minutes the topic bounces back on Glen. Melvin asks him, why did he request to make changes in the city, he has charities all over the country, he already helped the people isn’t that enough. Glen shakes his head and said, “I give them warm meals today, but what about tomorrow, besides I have no power to create policies”, His words fascinate Melvin again, no wonder many politicians, crawl towards him, with his insights and money, he can carry them on the top of the world. “If you care so much about them, why don’t you run for politics instead”, Melvin asked, “It will affect my business”, Glen told him, “Doesn’t it affect you now?”, “Not much, but if I were to become a politician, they will make my business a prime target, they know it brings me money more than they can have”, Glen said “I guess, you are right”, Melvin nods, “I agree with your proposals, I accept it”, he offers his hand. Glen takes it and the two shake hands.
