Unexpected
Chapter 1
The gentle breeze kissed through my skin as I walked through the partially busy streets of the city. The leaves falling from the tree flew downwards on the dry pavements where people stepped on them with some in a rush, others on a lazy stroll. A peaceful afternoon right after the end of my classes, I casually walked into 'The Honey Pot', my favorite place in the entire city. Everyone in Ashford City knew of it, however not all really knew of it's degree of sweetness. Many of you would think it's either a coffee or a pastry shop when in reality, it's a book store. The name doesn't exactly get pegged for a bookstore often but it is what it is and it is my safe haven, I could care less about the rest
I pushed the door to the store and the young man at the counter looked up and flashed me a small smile. I smiled back and went to sit at my usual spot at the aisle. It was a bit hot outside and so I felt my body temperature rising. Setting my jacket down, I fished out my books from my bag, having the project Mr Malik gave to me in mind. My life mostly revolves around books and poems and paragraphs and writing and lots of stress. I heaved a sigh looking at all my requirements on the desk noticing that one minor but very crucial item was missing for me to have the ability to create my magic. The deadline for the project submission was approaching and though I do finish all my pending works on time, this time, I found myself drowning in the sea of procrastination as it wasn't my cup of tea to translate medieval English language. In addition to that, my GPA score was a soaring 3.6 and I couldn't afford to lower it by absconding the assignment beforehand as my anxiety levels would spike and I'm not very good at controlling it. I looked towards the towering book shelves, wondering where the ancient pieces of sh*t were kept and luckily from my peripheral , it was boldly indicated. I made a mental hand clap and made sure to remember to thank Chris later for his exemplary work.
As I rose to walk towards the corner of the library, my phone pinged with a notification. I took it out of the bag and looked to see a new message alert.
From: Logan
8th September 3:22pm
Hello darling, want to take
you out for dinner, call me
when you are done from the
library. I love you ❤️.
Crap! I completely forgot about it. Oh Logan, you'll have to wait.I switched the phone off and led off to the desired spot. Just when I arrived at my destination, my hair fell out from it's bun and it took all the strength in me to not scream. I quickly willed my long curly hair into a messy bun and looked up at the book. My eyes swept at the cluster of books and papers, searching for it and after a century of popping my eyeballs, I spotted an ancient-looking ,wrinkly stack of papers ... Bingo! Found it. Here there's good news and bad news
The good news... I'll finally finish this goddamn project for I've found the god-damned manuscript and Professor Malik won't have my head.
The bad news... It's at the top- most part of the shelf and I'm not exactly Gigi Hadid, no pun intended, with her 5"11 frame and her long legs. I'm already at perfection with my 5"6 frame and I'm very proud of it. It's just not helping with my situation now and my toes have to pay the price for my short height. And so,, I leapt forward on my toes, reaching for the manuscript. It was obviously not working for it's not like I'd grow any taller
but my brain refused to let me leave without getting it. I contemplated on jumping but then again, my shoes weren't such a big help. I heaved a sigh of frustration and pouted my lips, disappointed and thinking of what step to take next. I then decided to try one last time before I called Chris to give me a hand. I moved forward again on my tippy toes and reached for the book. I was almost there, when I felt a large hand around my waist pulling me back gently, making me whimper. When I looked to see who it was, the manuscript I'd been trying to reach disappeared out of sight. Five seconds later, it appeared in my hands with a large hand holding it out to me. The arm was veiny and bulky, with some tattoos littered on it. Looking at the face of my knight in shining armor, my eyes widened with the fineness of his countenance. His head was a mop of curly brown hair, eyes a deep sea-green, perfectly chiseled jaw and a pair of pink lips. His skin was a golden tan and his towering stature a solid 6"2. I could only marvel in awe at his good looks.
" Careful precious, don't arch your back too much. It may display your delectable physique but this isn't the best of places to display it, not to mention you aren't exactly sighing in pleasure from it. You will hurt yourself." he quietly said and walked away.
I was left stunned by both his presence and his words, which from my overthinking brain, seemed to hold a double meaning to them. I just stood for a fleeting moment, reminiscing the encounter between the tall stranger and me and wondered where in heaven he'd come from and where he'd gone to. Looking at my fingers, the manuscript pay mockingly, reminding me of the fact of why it was in my hands now. I couldn't do anything more other than resume my original position at the aisle with one sentence in mind, ' Damn! Do angels still fall from heaven? '
