Helmut sat at the table in Red’s kitchen. He and Toby had been for a walk.
It had been two weeks since they had first met in the library, and since then they had been on several walks. Helmut was a hit with both Toby and Red. Toby’s morose face lit up at the mention of his kindred spirit, while Red looked forward to when Helmut and Toby returned and Helmut stayed for coffee. This time she had bought a few German beers, just in case.
Helmut watched Red spoon fair-trade coffee into her coffee maker. He was starting to feel at home in her kitchen. Over the visits he had brought a packet of empire biscuits, his dog-eared Greenpeace: The Inside Story for Toby, and a selection of organic vegan cheeses, which Red sniffe
