It was a trying time for Daniel and me. A time to prove how much we loved each other and I was ready to do everything possible to help him get back to his feet. I had browsed the internet to get information about Damian Adams to get more information about him but I got little.

"Maybe he wasn't the social media type" I had thought.

Not rich men like to be announced on social media. He should be one of them. Daniel told me I was to start working with him next month. He said it was just a contract of five years and everything will be fine. And if he gets to work out paying the money soon enough, I won't have to stay that long.

The ringing of my phone was so annoying I felt like throwing it off the window. I opened my eyes slowly and stared at the clock on the table beside me. It was past three midnight, and I couldn't help but wondered who had called me. I picked my phone up to answer the call but it ended before I could. Without checking who the caller was, I kept the phone on the table and close my eyes to sleep while waiting for the phone to ring again which never did.

"Wake up, you lazy girl" my friend, Andrea pulled the duvet away from my body and I groaned.

"Do you ever get tired of being troublesome?"

"Haven't you heard?" she asked ignoring my question, and I furrowed my brows.

"What's the news?"

"You don't know?"

"No?"

"That your lovable boyfriend has run off with another woman"

I sat up quickly. "What did you say?"

"You heard me" she sat down on the bed. "I had he ran off yesterday after borrowing a hundred million dollars from Damian Adams"

My eyes switched. A hundred million dollars? No, he told me he owed him fifty million dollars, not a hundred. "You must have heard it wrong. He owes fifty million dollars not a hundred million dollar"

"Is that what he told you?"

I nodded. "I knew about the money from the beginning. It's not up to a hundred million dollars"

Andrea scoffed. "Do you still believe him?. I heard it from the right source. He owes Damian Adams a hundred million dollars and has run off with his girlfriend. When I heard the news I had thought it was you. You never told me Daniel had another girlfriend aside you"

I frowned. "You ain't serious right?. You're pulling my legs"

"I am not pulling your legs, Charlotte. I am dead serious"

I blinked. Haven't I landed myself in a mess?. Just a few days ago I had signed a document concerning the money he owe without going through the content of it.

Andrea poked me. "Are you, ok?"

I nodded. "Yes". I wasn't ok at all. I couldn't tell which of the news was frustrating to me. The fact that he left me and ran off with another woman? Or the fact that he lied about the amount of money he owe and made me sign a document?

I stood up from the bed but fell back immediately. I was weak. Weak from pain and disappointment.

"Are you sure you're ok?"

I nodded. "Get me water". I suddenly felt dizzy. "Please get me water"

"What will you do now?" Andrea asked after I had narrated everything to her. "How do you get entangled with Damian Adams?"

"I-i don't know. I am so confused right now. Why will Daniel be this heartless? I thought he loved me?"

"You thought he loved you?. The love had always been a one-sided thing, you just did not notice. Did I not warn you about him in the first place?. I have always known he was up to no good"

"What will I do, now? Andrea?. What do I do about Damian? I don't even know the kind of person he is. Do you know him?. I mean Damian Adams?"

"You don't know him?"

I nodded and she scoffed. "Do you even exist in this world at all? Everyone knows Damian Adams, the cold-hearted bachelor who doesn't give a damn about women"

"He's cold-hearted?"

"I heard his fiancee broke up with him some years back and he was devastated. He had been cold-hearted since then"

"What will I do now?. What if he hurts me?"

"You don't have business with him or do you?"

"I was supposed to work for him to pay off Daniel's debt"

She batted her lashes. "You did?"

I nodded. "I signed a document to work with him for five years to pay off Daniel's debt"

"You sold off your freedom for Daniel?"

"I had no choice. I love Daniel"

She scoffed. "He doesn't worth it?. Does he?. You shouldn't have done it"

"I had no option. I thought that was the best option". She sighed. "What will I do now?"

She held my hand. "You have to put everything behind you and move on. That is the only thing. Thank goodness it hasn't led to marriage yet"

"And Damian?"

"You will learn to put up with him. It will be over soon"

"Gosh, Daniel. I still can't believe he left with another woman. I love him. Why does he have to lie to me?" I cried.

It was painful to love someone and find out he had been lying to you. He doesn't even love me as he claims.

"I have to confirm myself if everything is true"

"You should but I am very sure of the information"

There was a knock on the door and Andrea stood up to open the door. "Two men in black, are you expecting someone?" She whispered

"No. Do they say what they want?. I whispered back

"I think they are from Damian Adams"

My heart skipped a beat. What do they want? Why are they here?. I peeped through the door to see two men, dressed in black, standing close to the door. Parked a few meters away were two exotic cars. Two other men in black stood beside it.

I opened the door slowly and stepped out with Andrea trailing behind. "Our boss wants to see you," one of the men in black said

"W-who is your boss" I tried to sound courageous as possible but I could tell my voice failed me.

"We can't say but you have to come with us now"

"I don't know who your boss is. I am not coming with you"

"Damian Adams. Heard of the name?. You signed a contract some days ago, remember?"

I remembered signing a contract but I do not know what the content of the contract says. I trusted Daniel so much I did not bother to read the content of the document but signed it blindly.

"What does the content says?" I asked and Andrea stared at me.

"You did not know?" She whispered

"I did not bother reading it" I answered. "Daniel told me it's a work contract"

Andrea scoffed. "Shouldn't you have read it?"

I knew it was wrong of me not to have read it but it was too late to cry when the deed have been done. "You have to come with us now. Our boss doesn't like to be delayed"

"Can she come with me?"

"No, you have to come alone"

"Can I go in to pick up my phone?"

"I'm sorry you can't"

It was my first meeting with Damian Adams, as a person. He was different from what I expected. But for his ruthless self, he was the perfect definition of who Andrea had explained him to be.

When he walked in, I had admired him. His cute face, defined muscles, and well-built structure. His hair was golden like the sun and his eyes were blue like an ocean. His skin shuns like the setting of the sun.

I was lost staring at him until he hit the table a bit and I blinked back to present. I got lost in thought again when he said nothing. I had to compare him with Daniel. He was cuter than Daniel would be but younger than Daniel is.

Unlike Daniel who had fuller lips, his lips were smaller. I heard a thud and I looked up quickly. His eyes bored into mine. "Do you always stare that way?"

I flushed in embarrassment. "I-i am sorry I go lost starting at you" I cooed

But he ignored me and picked up the document I had signed. He pointed and called out my name. "Charlotte Raymond"

He kept staring at the papers while I grabbed my clammy hands together.

"You have to marry me," he said coldly and I froze.

"M-marry you?"

He frowned. "Did you not read the contract before signing it?"

"I-i didn't"

He scoffed. "Do I have to explain what the so-called contract entails because you are so dumbed to sign a contract without reading it first?"

He stared at me, his eyes boring into mine. "I won't repeat myself, so listen carefully. The contract you signed entails that you are willing to pay back the hundred million dollars your boyfriend owe me or you do whatever I want"

I batted my lashes in surprise. "Y-you said what?"

He hit the table angry and I flinched. "Did I not tell you I won't be repeating myself?"

I nodded quickly. "Y-you, y-y-you" I was so afraid I couldn't finish up my words.

I heard him groan and then scoffed. "Is she this dumb?" He said to himself.

"D-do I have to marry you?" I finally found my courage back

He glared at me and I wished I could run away from here. "I will pick the wedding day and let you know. My guards will take you back home"

"I..."

"You should leave before I change my mind"

I stood up quickly and made for the door. "And listen, don't you dare try to run away. If you do, I will get you and when I do, you won't love the outcome"

"I-i wasn't planning..."

"You should not talk back at me unless I ask you". I nodded but said nothing. "Get out of my office"

I opened the door and walked out of the office. After I left his office, I cried. I knew right there that my once peaceful life is about to get messy because of the love I have for Daniel. With the little time I spent with Damian, I knew living with him was going to be as hot as hell and I have just gotten entangled in a situation that I can never get myself out of.
