Chapter 2

Chapter 2 Autumn Her heart raced as she fled from the bar. Her car was parked just down the street, and she had already handed out all of the deliveries Vincent had asked her to make. Checking to make sure she still had the money in her pocket, she gunned her car out of the parking spot as she tried to calm herself down. All of the awful possibilities were racing through her mind. Whoever the shifter was, her mate, he couldn’t mess up her plan now. Not when she was so close to getting out. Her life didn’t matter, it hadn’t for years. The only person that mattered was Brody, her little brother. Autumn touched her lips then. Briefly she allowed herself to relive their kiss. Her heart had soared at his touch, and she knew if she were to reach inside of her panties they would be drenched. She wished she had at least caught his name. Autumn shook her head then, that would have been foolish. It was foolish to believe in happily ever after’s. Especially her own. Her fate had been sealed. All she could do now was to do everything in her power to help her little brother gain his freedom. Maybe, just maybe her shifter could save Brody. The thought excited her and gave her hope. All she had to do was stay on task. When the time came she would call on him. One thing she knew about shifter’s and their mates was that they would do anything for them. Autumn just hoped that her mate would be able to walk away from her if it meant fulfilling her one and only wish. For her brother to be free from the life they had been stuck in for far too long. Autumn’s biggest worry was that somehow the ugliness she had been trying to hide from him would touch him. One day he would be a part of this world by choice. There were so many young boys that one day seemed to be playing innocently with cars and trucks just like Brody, and the next they were toting around guns and snorting lines of heroin. She stomped on the gas a little harder, needing to get to him to make sure he was safely tucked in bed just as she had left him. As if her presence alone could keep him safe. She wasn’t so naïve to believe she could stop Vincent from doing what he pleased with Brody. She knew it was only a matter of time before he recruited Brody too. Until tonight. Tonight she found her mate, and the man that would rescue Brody. If she dared to hope, maybe even her.
