Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Rocky
The music was loud at The Alley as the pack gathered there to celebrate their latest victory. It was also Jake and Stephanie’s first outing since having their baby. There was much to be celebrated for the pack. Rocky sat back and watched as everyone danced and drank, all except Terrell’s new mate Ava who was now expecting. She swayed back and forth from the side lines. Rocky both envied his pack mates and their new-found mates. At the same time he found himself extremely thankful they had found them as well.
He and Dru were the only ones left that hadn’t yet found their mates. He looked over at Dru who was speaking quietly to someone Rocky didn’t recognize in the corner. Dru’s face was laced with anger, which was even more concerning to Rocky. He stood up and began to make his way over to his Alpha when a scent touched his nose that sent his world into a tailspin. The sent was delicious; like apples mixed with pumpkin spices.
Rocky looked around trying to find the owner of the wonderful scent. The loud music pumped through his body as his bear pushed him forward faster; frantic now to find whoever it was. Rocky shoved through the patrons. Joe caught his arm, but Rocky shrugged it off and kept moving.
Then he saw her. She had short dark hair, with one chunk colored purple down the side. She was overly thin, but that didn’t keep her from being the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her eyes met his just as he realized she was his mate. Rocky took a step forward, but just as fast she was gone. It was like the crowd had engulfed her.
He pushed forward, faster, his eyes blazing now as his bear hunted for her. As he continued to plow through the people, he emerged on the far side of the bar just in time to see her disappear into the bathroom. Taking a look around to see if anyone was paying him any attention, he took off down the hallway and into the women’s bathroom. Rocky locked the door behind him as he stalked his prey.
“You can’t be in here!” she gasped.
“It seems I can,” Rocky said casually.
“I know who you are,” she whispered.
“Then why did you run.”
“Because we can’t, not now.”
Rocky took a step closer. She in turn stepped back only to find herself against the bathroom wall. Rocky placed his hands on either side of her head as he leaned in to inhale her intoxicating scent once more. Her eyes fluttered closed for a brief second.
“What’s your name, mate?” he huffed.
Her eyes flew open and studied his for a moment. It was as if she was sizing him up, determining whether or not he was worthy. Rocky wasn’t sure if he was offended or damned impressed by her. Then instead of answering his question, she placed her hands on either side of his face and brought his lips to hers. He was so stunned at first that he didn’t respond. As her lips left his, he growled and pulled her against him, crashing his lips down on hers.
Her mouth immediately opened to his, and his tongue plunged inside to mate with hers. Rocky felt high from the intense rush of their mate bond. Her hands left his face and slid down his chest; his grip tightened on her waist. When she got to the hem of his shirt, she slid her hands up and under his shirt. The skin to skin contact almost knocked him to the ground. His mate was damn addictive, and Rocky didn’t care if he ever came up for air again.
When he pulled away, they were both out of breath.
“Damnit woman, you’re going to kill me and I’ve only just found you.”
“You have to leave. When I need you, I’ll find you,” she said.
“If you’re in danger, tell me. I can help you. There’s no way in hell I’m letting you go.”
“You have to.”
She reached up, and Rocky leaned forward thinking she was going to kiss him again. Instead he was greeted with the pungent smell of chloroform. He tried to back away, but she clasped her hand over his mouth and he knew he had inhaled too much of it. She was whispering something to him, but he was already falling under. As he hit the ground, his eyes closed just as she was stepping over him.
