What was believed to be a log was now close enough to see it was a gator of some kind. Don't ever ask Jaivva how could she misinterpret such a thing. Most city people would likely make the same mistake. Even worse, it was nearly in range to attack.
The land was too near and the cubs were still paddling strong. Jaivva kicked away from the cliff with a dagger and a short sword in her hands.
The gator swam just a little past her to get around to the cubs. She treaded over to keep it away. Its hissing startled the littles ones.
Jaivva swam towards its mouth. The gator flinched its mouth close. As she treaded backward following the motioning water from the swimming, the gator came directly for her.
Holding her ground held no effect on the gator. It snapped once and hissed at her counter with the dagger.
Still swimming into her, the gator tipped its nostrils in the water to snapped a second time.
She used her sword to push against the bite. The cubs kicked off of Jaivva's back which just knocked them forward.
Even the gator could hear the loud gulps going down her throat. Breath control was a basic essential of combat. The gator watched the muscles in her jaw contract. The right flare of the nostrils. Timeliness of her saliva built up.
Just as she was to swallow, the gator snapped at her with a full bite.
Jaivva managed to stab her sword into its lower jaw. It barely stuck. Yet, it allowed her the travel with the attack.
She slammed into the cliffside. Rubble scratching her back was ignored. The right hand flipped the dagger to stab the gator on its snout.
Her legs curled around its mouth to hold it shut. It became easy to smash her into the cliffside a few times. After, the gator slammed her into the water.
It easily rolled her off. But when it attempted to eat her again, she pushed herself off with the dagger.
It lifted her out of the water with the dagger piercing its lip. Jaivva was completely unstable. Fortunately, the cubs hit land.
Leaning back, Jaivva kicked away from the gator in an attempt to hit land. It submerged itself for a bite.
A stroke back and a timely jab of her sword saved her. She threw herself from the reptile and swam away.
By the time the gator caught up, her foot hit dirt. Before it struck, her stance was steady. Even with her breast submerged, Jaivva still fast enough to counter the gator. Only this time she had the force to hurt it.
After countering the bite with both blades, Jaivva taunted her opponent. Both pierced the gator's jaw fairly easily. Its hissing spewed a grotesque smell that forced Jaivva to push it away.
It dared another bite that Jaivva stabbed with her sword.
She held it up high from underneath, stabbing it repetitively with her dagger.
The gator squirmed down dripping with blood, gradually snapping back at her.
Jaivva's dagger missed the snout, allowing her forearm to smash against its teeth. A quick turn of her body along with a guard hold of her dagger permitted her sword to stab the gator's throat.
Once again it squirmed on her blade. The sword snapped, causing the gator to spend its last moments fleeing. Its heavy tail knocked Jaivva back.
Water rushing in her nose was no joke. It may have been only 5 feet, but that blow could've ended her if she took it earlier. A burst into the water made her panic. Could it be another predator or a lifeguard to end the trial?
She rushed her head above the surface to only slip back in. The forest appeared to be swimming. A cub crying at her ear let her know it was okay.
Jaivva allowed the little panda to tuck its head under hers. The second one cried under her armpit, trying to assist. Their tiny paddles worked through a couple of feet of water until her bare knees dug the dirt.
After crawling out, water drained from her nostrils. Jaivva practically vomited water. Each cub remained at her side, guiding her to a tree in the forest.
Wiping the water away, Jaivva slowly regained her vision. The blood running down her arm wasn't a simulation. The teeth of the gator really tore her arm. She felt through her tiny med-pack on her butt for gauze and bandage wrap.
Taking it easy, the cubs rested on her legs while she wrapped her forearm. Her inventory was low. Only a dagger, a kunai, and a few shurikens were available. A mere warrior would be in trouble. But a ninja was as resourceful as any panda could be.
She gathered branches and fir stones. The materials nearby were well enough. Crafting came easy. Peeling skin from trees to make rope. Smashing and sharpening rocks onto one another. Some sticks were strong enough to be used as poles for spears.
Crafting a second spear in her sitting position, rustling was heard again. The cubs were still in their ghillie covering. However the predator this time happened to be a leopard.
A singular small leopard sized her from the distance. It didn't appear harmful. Jaivva continued with an eye on it until a cub cried towards a different bush.
Upon sight, a second leopard froze in place. Two more leopards were spotted nearby.
Using the newly created spear, Jaivva lifted herself. Out of luck, her peripherals caught sight of a leopard jumping at her from the tree.
Like water, she remained fluid. Smacking the leopard with one end of the spear and following the rock crafted tip into its lungs.
It dropped squirming like an earthworm. The leopard tried to scratch at a cub. A pathetic attempt on its part that Jaivva ignored for an oncoming assault. The spear was already racketing and there were four leopards left.
One leopard jumped to its back trying to grab Jaivva's legs while the other jumped for her neck. A third leopard was approaching her hip.
At ease, she stepped into the second leopard and sliced the first's exposed neck.
The second leopard was saddened by how easily she allowed it to fly over her. Piercing through its lungs, the spear snapped to just a thick rod.
Now smacking the third jaguar with the broken rod, Jaivva threw a shuriken at one of the oversized cats. It merely stuck its eye.
The leopard being smacked used the diversion to bite at her leg. Jaivva sidestepped, flipping a dagger into its spine.
A now blinded leopard back away at the sight of its fallen comrades. Looking back it saw the rest of its family lurking on empty stomachs. A feline roared for its return. Its walk of shame left many dead leopards.
