After leaving the Temple of Silent Sands, Amara, Kael, and Lumo traveled for several days again. The hot desert slowly disappeared behind them, and the land began to change.
The air became cooler.
Tall trees appeared again.
Soon they stood at the edge of a massive dark forest.
The trees were huge and ancient, their branches twisting high into the sky. Thick shadows covered the ground, even though the sun was still shining above.
Amara looked into the forest carefully.
“So this is the Forest of Echoing Shadows.”
Lumo shivered slightly.
“Yep. And it already looks creepy.”
Kael checked the Star Shard again. The glowing stone pointed directly into the forest.
“This is where the next clue is hidden,” he said.
Amara took a deep breath.
“Well… we’ve come this far.”
They stepped into the forest together.
Immediately, the air felt different.
The forest was strangely quiet. No birds sang, and no animals moved through the trees.
Only the sound of their footsteps could be heard.
After walking for a while, Amara suddenly heard something strange.
A faint voice echoed through the forest.
“Amara…”
She stopped walking.
“Did you hear that?”
Kael nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
Lumo looked around nervously.
“That’s why it’s called the Forest of Echoing Shadows.”
Another voice echoed through the trees.
This time it sounded like Kael’s voice.
“Turn back… it’s too dangerous…”
Kael frowned.
“That’s not me.”
The voices continued whispering from different directions.
Sometimes they sounded like friends.
Sometimes like enemies.
Sometimes like people they had never met before.
The forest was trying to confuse them.
Amara shook her head.
“We can’t listen to the voices.”
Kael agreed.
“They’re meant to distract us.”
Suddenly, the Star Shard began glowing brighter.
Kael looked ahead.
“I think we’re close.”
Through the trees, they finally saw a small clearing.
In the center of the clearing stood an ancient stone statue of a warrior holding a sword toward the sky.
Strange glowing runes were carved into the ground around it.
Amara stepped forward slowly.
“This must be another part of the puzzle.”
Kael studied the runes carefully.
“I think we need to activate them with the Star Shard.”
He placed the glowing shard on the ground near the statue.
Immediately, the runes began to shine.
Bright silver light spread across the clearing.
But suddenly, the ground began to shake.
Lumo jumped.
“Oh no… not again.”
From the shadows between the trees, dark shapes slowly appeared.
They were Shadow Seekers.
But these ones looked bigger and more powerful than before.
Their glowing red eyes burned in the darkness.
Amara stepped back.
“There are so many of them.”
Kael grabbed the Star Shard quickly.
“They must be protecting this place.”
The creatures slowly surrounded the clearing.
Lumo whispered nervously.
“I don’t think we can fight all of them.”
Just then, the statue in the center of the clearing suddenly began to glow.
The stone warrior slowly lifted its sword.
A powerful beam of light shot into the sky.
The Shadow Seekers screeched loudly and backed away from the light.
Amara looked at the statue in surprise.
“It’s protecting us!”
Kael nodded.
“The statue must be another ancient guardian.”
As the light spread across the clearing, the Shadow Seekers slowly disappeared into the dark forest again.
The ground stopped shaking.
Amara sighed with relief.
“That was close.”
But something else had happened.
The runes on the ground were now forming a new glowing message.
Kael looked at them carefully.
“It’s another clue.”
Amara leaned closer.
“What does it say?”
Kael read the symbols slowly.
“It speaks of a place called the Lake of the Fallen Star.”
Lumo sighed dramatically.
“So… another dangerous location.”
Amara smiled.
“At least this adventure is never boring.”
But far away in the shadows of the forest, a pair of glowing red eyes watched them carefully.
Lord Varyn had not given up the hunt.
And the next challenge waiting at the Lake of the Fallen Star would test them in ways they had never imagined.
