Chapter 8: The Tower of Starlight

724 Words
The wind in the valley had finally calmed, but the air still felt powerful and mysterious. Amara, Kael, and Lumo continued walking through the tall grass toward the shining Tower of Starlight. The tower grew taller and brighter the closer they got. Its walls were made of smooth silver stone that reflected the sunlight like a mirror. Amara looked up in amazement. “It’s even bigger than it looked from the mountain,” she said. Lumo whistled. “And very shiny,” he added. “I like shiny things.” Kael held the Star Shard in front of him. The glowing stone was shining brighter than ever before. “We’re definitely in the right place,” he said. Soon they reached the entrance of the tower. A large circular door stood before them, covered in strange glowing symbols that looked similar to the ones in the Crystal Cave. Amara walked closer and examined the door. “There’s no handle,” she said. Lumo crossed his arms. “Of course there isn’t. Magical doors never have handles.” Kael stepped forward and lifted the Star Shard toward the center of the door. The moment the shard touched the stone, the symbols on the door began to glow. A deep humming sound filled the air. Slowly, the giant door began to open. A cool breeze flowed out from inside the tower. Amara peeked into the dark entrance. “Well… here we go.” The three of them stepped inside. The inside of the tower was enormous. A tall spiral staircase curved upward along the walls, disappearing far above into the shadows. At the center of the room floated a glowing ball of light that illuminated everything around them. Lumo looked around in awe. “This place is incredible.” Kael walked toward the glowing light in the center. “I think this is another part of the map,” he said. Amara stepped closer. “What do you mean?” Kael placed the Star Shard near the floating light. Immediately, the light began to move and expand. A glowing image appeared in the air above them, forming another magical map. This time the map showed a large desert with a bright star symbol shining in the center. Amara studied it carefully. “So the next clue is somewhere in that desert?” Kael nodded. “Yes. The Desert of Silent Sands.” Lumo made a worried face. “Deserts are hot, dry, and full of creatures that like to eat travelers.” Amara laughed. “You really know how to encourage people.” But suddenly, the floating map flickered. The light dimmed. Kael frowned. “That’s strange.” Then a cold voice echoed through the tower. “You should not have come here.” Amara froze. “Did you hear that?” A dark shadow slowly formed at the top of the staircase. The shadow grew larger and slowly moved downward. Kael’s face turned serious. “That voice…” The shadow finally stepped into the light. It was a tall figure wearing dark armor. Its eyes glowed with the same red light as the Shadow Seekers. Lumo whispered nervously. “That… does not look friendly.” The figure spoke again, its voice cold and powerful. “I am Lord Varyn, servant of the Dark One.” Amara stepped back. “What do you want?” Lord Varyn looked at the glowing Star Shard in Kael’s hand. “I want what you carry.” Kael tightened his grip on the shard. “You’re not getting it.” Lord Varyn smiled darkly. “We shall see.” Suddenly, he raised his hand, and dark energy shot across the room. Amara quickly jumped out of the way as the blast hit the floor. “Run!” Kael shouted. The three of them dashed toward the staircase as Lord Varyn slowly followed them. Amara’s heart was racing. “This adventure is getting more dangerous every minute!” Kael glanced back at the dark figure climbing after them. “Yes,” he said. “And this is only the beginning.” Above them, the staircase continued upward into darkness. But somewhere inside the tower was the next secret they needed. And they had to reach it before Lord Varyn caught them. The race for the Hidden Key had truly begun. 🌟📖
