Clara Bennett has built her life on control. In New York’s cutthroat fashion world, she keeps fabrics smooth, deadlines tight, and her heart locked away after betrayal. When she goes to a fertility clinic determined to have a child on her own, she expects science, privacy, and peace. Instead, a mistake at the clinic changes everything. She is carrying the child of Julian Wolfe, the cold and powerful CEO of a global empire, a man with secrets far older and darker than money. Julian is not just a businessman. He is an Alpha werewolf who can feel the life growing inside Clara before she even tells him. He wants the child, and he wants Clara under his protection. Clara wants freedom. Julian wants control. But as threats close in from both the human world and the wolf world, their forced connection becomes a battle of trust, desire, and survival. In a world where one wrong choice can destroy a life, can Clara keep her independence and still protect the child she never meant to carry?

Chapter 1
The first scream came from the clinic hallway. Clara Bennett froze with her hand on the folder in her lap. The paper was warm from her grip, but her skin had gone cold. Around her, the waiting room stayed too bright and too clean, filled with soft chairs, pale walls, and the smell of disinfectant that could not hide the sharp edge of fear. Another shout. Then fast footsteps. A nurse rushed past the glass doors, her face pale. “Lock the side entrance,” she snapped to someone Clara could not see. Clara stood at once, her heart hitting hard against her ribs. “Miss Bennett?” a voice called from the front desk. She turned. “What is happening?” The receptionist smiled too fast, too stiff. “Just a security issue. Please stay seated.” That answer made Clara’s stomach twist. Nothing was ever just a security issue in a clinic that promised privacy to women who came here with hope and money and no room for mistakes. She looked down at the form in her hand. Her name was printed in neat black letters. Clara Bennett. One appointment. One goal. One decision she had made after three years of silence and one very public betrayal that had taught her love could be a trap. She pressed a palm to her lower stomach, though there was nothing there yet but nerves and empty hope. “Miss Bennett.” This time the voice came from the doorway behind her. She turned slowly. A man stood there in a dark coat, tall and still, as if the room had bent around him. His hair was black, his face sharp, his expression calm in a way that made her uneasy. He was not clinic staff. He was too well dressed, too controlled, too dangerous-looking for a place like this. “Can I help you?” Clara asked. His gaze moved to her folder, then back to her face. “You are Clara Bennett.” “Yes.” His eyes narrowed, just slightly. “Come with me.” Clara let out a short, humorless laugh. “No.” He did not move. “This is not a request.” That should have made her step back. It should have made her call security. Instead, it made her angry. “I do not know who you are,” she said, rising to her full height, “but if you are here to scare women in a fertility clinic, you picked the wrong one.” For the first time, something flickered in his face. Not surprise. Recognition. Then the hallway light above them buzzed once and went dim. A cold wave passed through the room. Clara felt it before she understood it. Her pulse slowed. Her breath caught. Every sound seemed to stretch thin, including the nurse’s sharp gasp from the hall. The man looked at her stomach. Not at her face. At her stomach. Clara took one step back. “What are you doing?” His voice dropped lower. “You should not be standing here.” Her fingers curled around the folder. “And you should not be looking at me like that.” He stared at her for one long second, then said, “Because the child is already mine.” The room tilted. Clara’s mouth went dry. “What child?” He took one step forward, and she could smell rain on him, cold air, and something wild beneath the expensive cologne. It did not make sense. Nothing about this man made sense. Then the doctor burst into the room, out of breath. “Miss Bennett, please come with me. There has been a mistake.” Clara turned so fast her hair hit her cheek. “A mistake?” The doctor would not meet her eyes. “There was a donor mix-up during processing.” Clara stopped breathing. The dark-haired man did not look surprised. He looked furious. “No,” Clara whispered. The doctor swallowed. “Your implant used the wrong donor sample.” Clara felt the words hit her one by one, slow and brutal. Wrong donor. Wrong sample. Wrong life. She gripped the edge of the chair to stay upright. “That is impossible.” “I am afraid it is not.” The doctor’s voice shook now. “We are still investigating how it happened.” Clara heard nothing after that. The room had gone silent in her ears, except for the harsh beat of her own heart. The man in the dark coat spoke again. “Leave us.” The doctor hesitated. “Now.” The doctor left. Clara stared at the man, anger pushing through shock. “Who are you?” “Julian Wolfe.” The name meant nothing to her for half a second. Then it landed like a blow. Wolfe Industries. The global empire. The man on the business pages. The CEO who never smiled. The billionaire who bought companies before breakfast and buried competitors by evening. Her knees almost gave out. “You are the donor,” she said. “Yes.” “No.” She shook her head hard. “No, that is not possible. The clinic said anonymous.” “They lied.” His voice stayed even, but his eyes burned now. “I did not know this clinic used my sample.” Clara laughed once, sharp and broken. “You expect me to believe that?” “You do not have to believe me.” He took another step closer. “You have to listen.” “I do not listen to men who ruin women’s lives and call it protection.” Something dark moved across his face at that, quick and dangerous. Then the side doors crashed open. Two men in black suits rushed into the room. One grabbed the doctor. The other reached for Clara. Julian moved before she could scream. He struck the man’s wrist, twisted, and shoved him backward into a chair. The impact cracked loudly. Clara stumbled away, eyes wide, every thought breaking apart. The second man lunged. Julian caught him by the throat and slammed him into the wall. “Run,” Julian said without looking at her. Clara could not move. “Clara,” he snapped, his voice suddenly rough. “Run now.” She did. Her heels hit the floor fast, uneven, panic burning through her chest as she dashed toward the rear corridor. Behind her came a deep growl. Not human. The sound froze her for one terrifying second. She looked back. Julian had changed. Not fully. Not enough for anyone else to name it. But his face had sharpened, his eyes had gone gold, and the man pinned to the wall was whimpering in pure animal fear. Clara’s breath locked. This was not possible. This was not real. Then one of the black-suited men looked straight at her and said, “Find the woman. The heir is inside her.” Clara’s hand flew to her stomach. Her child. No. Their child. And suddenly she understood one awful truth. She had not walked into a clinic for peace. She had walked into the center of a war. Clara turned and ran for the exit as the sound of breaking glass exploded behind her.
