Chapter 6

776 Words
The minute Chief James and two Navy officers, showed up at Logan's doorsteps the next morning he knew what had happened. It felt like Jade could actually understand what the three men were there for, cause she let out a sob running away and Logan, chased after her, leaving Heather and Dolores with the men.                    Logan didn't want to leave Heather, and James together — or leave her side at all. But he knew for the sake of all things wrong right now she would need to have a conversation with the man.                 Hearing soft sniffles and whispers coming from the car garage where Jade, had ran to Logan, sat next to her on the floor, but made sure to leave a space, knowing she needed to process everything slowly. It felt like his presence there awoken a new sob, cause she brought her tiny knees to her tiny chest hugging them her long brown  curls covering her face as her little shoulders shake.                              “Is my daddy dead?”. If it were possible for Logan to disappear at that moment he wanted to.                  “How much could you possibly tell a five year old about the world, without ruining and scaring them? Logan didn't know how, mostly because he'd steered clear of children.                      “Daddy has gone to a better place”. That definitely wasn't what Jade wanted to hear cause her sob got louder.               She rose her head, tears and snort mixed together but all Logan, could think about was if his own child would be as beautiful as Jade. “Where could be better than being with me and mommy?”.                    Logan, definitely had to find out how she could fully speak without the slightest stutter, but he ruled it down to the fact that Heather's a teacher and a really good mother.                   “Do you go to church?”. Logan, had to broach the subject carefully, and he sat cross legged facing her now. Jade nodded, eyeing him warily although her lips quivered and the tears were still falling.                        “So you know about Baby Jesus and how he died for us all?”. Another nod.                     “Daddy's a hero, and all heroes and good people like daddy go to meet God, when it's their time”. Logan, hoped he was making sense. If that didn't appeal to Jade, then he was seriously going to get a child and grief therapist for her.                       Jade, closed her eyes and Logan feared for the worst but was stunned when she nodded. “The pastor always says ‘Death isn't always the end’.  ******                       Heather, didn't know if to cry, scream or have a fit. But her tears slipped down her face and it seemed she has lost the ability to speak.                      All that was running through her head, was she needed her husband to hold her and kiss her, like he always used to do. But that wouldn't be possible anymore, she felt selfish. With all that has been happening with Marcus, disappearance she hadn't really had time to think about her swirl man and now she felt terrible.                     Dolores, showed the men out and she knew without a doubt that James and Logan, would handle whatever needed to be taken care off, she needed a minute to herself and a drink.                      But she couldn't do that, her daughter came first —always has, always will. Ferociously wiping the tears away she set to look for her daughter was was left grounded when Logan, walked in with Jade clinging to him like a curly headed monkey.                      It was a dangerous sight. A sight that would leave the most sane woman with lusty thoughts.                     He stopped in front of her and she noticed her daughter was out like a light. His eyes were Cold and warm at the same time, if it was possible. She didn't know why the tear slipped, but he caught it with his free hand, holding her right cheek, with his warm, caring big calloused hand.               The lack of a man's touch for nearly eight months, had her leaning into his touch, with closed eyes. She needed comfort to be held and Logan must have heard her mentally pleading cause he drew her in, and the flood gates opened.                       If he thought this assignment was going to be a walk in the park, Logan was surely mistaken and in as much as it killed him to see both of them broken, he did enjoy the feel of hugging them both.               I'm in trouble. Logan thought to himself.  ******* Don't forget to vote comment and share.
