CHAPTER 1
My slender arms wrapped around the pole as I moved to the rhythm of the music as though it had been sewn into my bloodstream. The bass was a pulse that didn’t belong to me, yet I swayed to it with expert moves. My three years training in ballet class seems to have payed off as I danced with lithe grace. The lights in the strip club washed over my pale skin, painting me with shifting colours. Deep violet, searing crimson, hungry blue and then back again. My body arched in almost impossible curves as I twisted against the chrome pole. I was grace and danger, a walking seduction. The crowd cheered as I performed. Glasses clinked and smoke from expensive cigars clouded the air, mixing with the smell of lust, desire and liquor. And then….he walked in I didn’t notice him at first. Not until the atmosphere shifted. It felt like the entire room had gone still, there was silence or maybe it was just in my head. The men near the door grew quiet as though instinct warned them that they were no longer predators. They were prey. He took confident strides into the club. His shoulders broad, his suit tailored with such precision it spoke of the wealth and power that exudes him. His presence was a command. He took a seat at at the VIP section. But it was his eyes that broke my rhythm. Blue and bright. I almost faltered in my movement as his piercing blue eyes met my brown ones. It felt like a cord had snapped between us, invisible but unbreakable. He looked at me as though he had been waiting for me. As though the entire club was just a stage for the two of us. My heart beat faltered. What the hell was that? My red coated lips curved into a sly, practiced smile hiding the storm of emotions I felt inside. Whatever power this stranger had over me, I wouldn’t let it show. “I am the hunter.” I mumbled to myself I slid down the pole landing like liquid as my heels clicked against the polished stage floor. Like a predator sizing it’s prey, I sauntered towards him. The crowd blurred Into nothing as my gaze lingered on him. Only him. “Come gimme some of that sweetness” “You’re a goddesses. Lemme treat you like one tonight “men whistled and cheered for my attention, but my eyes were on him. I wanted to see what it took to make him flinch. But he didn’t. The stranger leaned back in his chair, his gaze unwavering. His hands were on his thighs, he didn’t reach for me. He just watched. Slowly, I slid myself off the stage and circled him like a lioness. I lowered myself onto his lap. My delicate skin brushes his suit and I caught the woodsy scent of his cologne. I leaned into him, my lips close to his ear “are you enjoying the show” I whispered, my hot breath fanning his skin. His breath shifted His hands hovered at my hip “more than I expected. But you…….” He pulled away to meet my brown eyes “….you’re enjoying it more than I do watching.” My smirk almost faltered. Cocky bastard. His cockiness both excited and infuriated me. “Maybe I do” I breathed, grinding my hips just enough to test him. To tease him. Our eyes locked again. That connection pulled tighter, sparking and filling the air with something I didn’t want to admit. For the rest of the dance, I performed for him alone. After the song ended, I escaped backstage. My hands shook as I reapplied red lipstick on my plump lips. I glared at my reflection. A girl with brown hair and brown eyes stared back at me with furrowed brows. I frowned. He was just another man. Another client. So why did he get under my skin so much. “Rich cocky bastard” I muttered I had grown up with nothing. Wealth and power always seemed to infuriate me in ways that was quite shocking. Maybe it was because I didn’t have it. “Are you speaking of me?” My heart lurched at the sound of his velvet voice. I could recognize it anywhere. I turned around with a scowl on my face. He stood in the doorway of the dressing room, with his hands in his pocket leaning casually against the door frame. He looked……ethereal. His blond hair was messy, adding a roughish look to his perfect look. “How the f**k did you get in here” This was my safe spot in the club. He was too close. I folded my arm across my chest, pushing my breast higher. His eyes followed my movement. “You shouldn’t be here. Club rules” I pursed my lips He stepped inside, ignoring my words “I’ve never cared about rules “ My eyes narrowed “well I do. So how did you get past those guards and into my dressing room?” “I have my ways” he said in a husky voice I spun back to the mirror, dapping more color onto my lips as if his presence had no effect on me. “You shouldn’t be in here” His reflection caught mine in the mirror. His eyes were dark, unreadable “yet here I am” I turned around “what was so important that you had to come in here. You didn’t go through all that hurdles for no reason did you?” I said in a low voice His thumb lightly touched my hand and my chest tightened. I could’ve pulled away, could’ve pushed him away. But I didn’t. “There’s…..someone back stage that’s worth all the hurdles “ I hated the thrill that shot through my veins……..yet I loved it. I wanted it. I craved it. I never let my clients cross the line. It was always strictly business. But tonight…..but with him. I lost control
