Chapter Five: Long Live The Queen

The carriage back to our estate was long, my hands and clothes bloody from holding my father so tight to me. Inside the carriage Ai held onto my hands worried as I did not speak or move, I just stared at our conjoined hands.

“Princess..I am so sorry..” Her voice cracked as she spoke to me.

I couldn't really respond. I was still battling with the aftermath of shock. Yes this wasn't my world nor was that my true father who passed, but in my eyes and what I feel he was my father and cared for me as his. My heart broke hearing his words about being a good Queen. How could I rule knowing someone out there was targeting me but killed the King instead of me.

As the carriage doors opened I turned my head looking to Tao, He held out his hand for me to take and I did slowly exiting and moving inside the manor as the large doors shut and guards guarded the outside of my home. I walked with him inside my chambers as he sat me down and maids rushed over to help me wash up and get out these clothes while Tao stepped out to keep guard as everyone was on high alert right now with a killer on the loose.

After undressing I moved to the nice heated tub and slid down inside it.

“Leave me.” I ordered them, They looked at one another but just left casually leaving me alone and in my thoughts once again.

Tears ran down my face as I shut my eyes and relieved that moment over and over again, holding him in my arms as he took his last breath, His eyes staring deeply at me with love and concern about how my life was going to be without him, Yet all I could do was watch him pass and know he wasn't alone in those last moments.

“Princess..Everything is secured and us knights are gathering up the main hall, When you're done you can meet us there. Take your time.” Tao’s voice was soft by the door before his footsteps walked away and two guards stood there instead waiting.

I sighed out leaning down more in the tub covering myself. I looked at the small plant across from me, at times like these I didn't know what to do..nor did I want to get so depressed and shelter myself when a whole lot of people depended on me now which was so overwhelming to even process.

Though in my head, I couldn't keep out who would want me dead. Someone was desperate enough to do it on a big day like today, but my question was why, who was that angry with me to get rid of me for their power and did my father have enemies I didn't know about.

I stood up after washing all the blood off my body, I got out of the bath as my maids came and helped me dress back into something casual, they brushed out my long hair and pinned it back out of my face, I slid on some shoes and moved out my chambers and down the hall. Ai followed in toe staying to my side but remained quiet. I could hear a lot of chattering inside the main throne room where my father sat and ruled. The council men and the prince’s were inside all chattering and arguing loudly. As the door opened everything fell silent as all heads were on me, I walked forward not speaking a word as I moved to the throne and stared at it. I tightened my jaw and walked up the steps and looked at the golden dragon along the chair as my fingers brushed against it.

“I will take revenge for you..” I whispered before turning and facing everyone as they all looked at me.

“Tonight my father was taken to save my life. Someone was there and waited to take my life but instead they took a good man’s.. Your King.” I said, staring at them all as they all remained quiet while I spoke. “I am my father’s only heir, Which means I will proudly accept the throne in his place and if anyone has a say otherwise speak now, Or forever hold your tongue because I am in no mood to hear anyone speak about a woman ruling.”

The room was shocked hearing my words as whispers started between each other as I didn't speak letting them soak in what I said before I cleared my throat getting their attention again.

“My Father was murdered! Right under all of our noses, A place where it's supposed to be fun and beautiful turned horribly wrong and for what, A man who was sweet and kind who loved his people dearly taken from us right under our noses because they were trying to aim for me and my father saw this and saved my life which sadly took his.” I yelled at them as tears fell from my cheeks as I wiped them away, sighing I looked at them. “I will get revenge for his death, Whatever means possible, I will be a powerful Queen with your acceptance and guidance with that being said, I want to be crowned tomorrow…As after being crowned Is when I find the fool who murdered my Father.” I said with Venom in my voice as I walked off the steps away from the throne and down the red carpet as everyone bowed watching me leave and did not dare speak up.

( The Next Morning )

The streets of the village were booming with the death of the King. That had the people worried but also news of me getting crowned today as their ruler.

I stood there in my chamber dressed in gold and white attire, the beautiful Kimono clothes had some weight to them but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. My hair was pinned up completely with beautiful golden hairpins. The makeup was light but beautiful as I looked like a brand new woman staring back at myself. I gave a tiny smirk but walked off with Ai to the carriage as the crowning was being held in a certain place in front of many , including many nations of the Chinese who traveled to see this happen. Other royals and wealthy people coming together under one place was going to be big but also the common folk were allowed to watch from afar.

I exited the main gates and into the carriage with Ai who sat across from me and smiled gently at me, taking my hand and giving it a squeeze.

“You look beautiful.” She assured me with a smile.

I gave a smile back to her. “Thank you, When I am crowned you will be my official hand-maiden as I only trust you by my side, but also will recruit other women you see fit to care for the chores around our home. Things are going to change..” I told her.

She gave a small nodding her head with a tiny bow. “Yes, your highness.”

As we arrived I got out of the carriage with the help of Ai holding out her hand for me, As I got out there was a lot of cheering and whispering. I remained quiet and straight faced as I walked forward toward the gates, They opened announcing me.

As they opened it was filled with many people who turned or rose from where they casually sat. They all turned and watched me walk inside. I spotted the Princes to the side also dressed to impress, I continued to walk forward to an older man standing there with the headdress of a crown I was going to get.

I kept my eyes forward and kept my head raised to give off a fierce look and dominant.

I stood before the old man by one step as he smiled at me.

“Today we gather here under the gods and stars to crown a new ruler.” He said, staring at everyone as his voice was shockingly loud.

“We have lost a great King, but gained a strong fierce Queen in his absence. Today we shall name Meiying as Queen Meiying!” He shouts as I kneel down and let him place the large golden crown upon my head.

I stood straight staring at him as he gave me a gentle smile before I turned facing the large crowd who eyes were on me and only me.

“Long Live The Queen!” He shouts, bowing down to me on the ground.

“Love live the Queen!” Everyone shouted as they bowed before me, my eyes roaming around at them all.

They stood as I gave a small respectful nod as the old man stepped to my side.

“My Queen, is there anything you would like to say?” He asked.

“Actually there is.” I said smiling at him before turning my head and looking cold at the crowd. “Whoever it was who killed my father, Do know you can't hide forever and I will find you and you will get what you deserve under my hands.” I barked out loudly as everyone was very quiet looking around at each other thinking the person who killed the King was in this very room but I knew that they were and watching me like a hawk.

“With that being said, Tao, Haoyu, Dajian and Kai.” I spoke out as they boys stepped from their families and walked over to bow before me. “I would appreciate you by my side, As my royal guards but also a place at my side in the council room.”

Their parents look genuinely pleased hearing this of their sons, as the four boys smiled and looked up at me. “Yes your highness, Thank you.” They chanted.

I smiled at their responses and moved down to them. “With that being done, Please enjoy the party and food.” I smiled as everyone began roaming about talking as I looked at the boys who stood.

“You didn't think I would let either of you leave my side.” I smiled.

“Shocked, But appreciated. I will protect you with my life, your highness.” Kai smiled at me.

I chuckled. “Closed doors, Call me my name.. Were friends right.”

He smirked, nodding his head.

“Thank you Mei, You'll be a great Queen and we all swear to protect you with our lives.” Tao smiled, giving a gentle bow as they all nodded their heads, even Haoyu who was quiet but gave me a look like he was worried , not about being a guard but more of worried about me and everything happening so fast for me. I brushed it off with a smile.

“Now, After this party. We get back home and figure out what the heck happened at lantern festival and find my father’s killer.” I told them as they nodded their heads to me, we all were determined to find the man or woman responsible for his death.
