Lexi’s POV It was peaceful here, wherever here was. Being a wolf, living in the middle of the forest, I was used to nature. But this place, it felt special. The air was so fresh and clean, the wind so gentle and calming. The last thing I remembered was fighting Zach. He had been ranting and raving, showing off what a delusional villain he truly was, when I shifted into Sasha. I was advancing, ready to attack the moment he shifted into his wolf. Then I saw him holding the gun, watched him pull the trigger -- but he hadn't been aiming at me, no. He had pointed it at Jake, at my mate, and I heard the gunshot just before I saw Connor shove Zach to the ground. Thinking about it now made my heart ache. I wondered if Jake was okay.
