Part 1
Eirlys had always been a quiet, ethereal presence in the neighborhood. Her fair skin seemed to glow under the sun, and her long, silky hair cascaded down her back like a dark waterfall. Her eyes, a striking shade of blue, had the ability to captivate anyone who looked too long. But it was when she smiled, when she was genuinely excited, that something magical happened—her face flushed a delicate pink, and her eyes shimmered, as though the stars themselves had taken refuge in her gaze.
Eamon, her childhood friend and next-door neighbour, was always there to witness those moments. With his dark brown eyes and tousled hair, he was the perfect contrast to her fair beauty, though his affection for her was anything but ordinary. They were inseparable, always running through the streets, making promises and secrets. Eamon had loved her from the very first time he saw her—his heart beat for her in a way he could never explain. He often told her, with a seriousness that even at their young age, Eirlys could never doubt, “I’ll always protect you, no matter what happens.”
But time, as it always does, moved forward. Eamon and Eirlys stood at the threshold of life’s cruelties. Their parents’ work obligations forced them to separate. Eamon's family moved away, and just like that, the only person who truly understood her was gone. The world around Eirlys started to shift in ways she couldn’t control.
Shortly after they left, Eirlys’ life fell apart. Her father passed away unexpectedly, leaving her mother a widow. In the midst of mourning, her mother remarried just months later, bringing a man into their lives that Eirlys could never fully accept. Something about him made her uncomfortable, though she didn’t yet know what it was. Still, she forced herself to be kind, believing that her mother's happiness mattered more.
