PROLOGUE
AMELIA'S POV
…"What if he fires me?"
That was the question that troubled my mind as I held the knob for close to three minutes, overwhelmed by indecisiveness. My eyes darted towards the bold tag on the door which reads, "CEO'S OFFICE" and my heart beat intensified.
Just yet again, the thought of losing my father due to my cowardice and indecisiveness, coupled with having a loan ultimatum staring at my face, crept into my mind. As if the thought fueled my courage, my tiny hand pressed the knob, and I stared right at my fear.
"Yeah. I'm all ears," Alfie, the CEO of Rango Electronics said to me. Busy as ever, he never cared to look at my face.
"I need assistance. My father, and the only family I have left is at the hospital and he is about to die. I need a promotion to increase my salary in order to pay for his medical expenses. I...I…I don't want to lose him." I stammered, not sure if that was the best way to have began.
"I'm sorry about that, Amelia. But you know this is not the best time. The company can not afford to meet up with an increase in salary at the moment."
The weight of his words rested on my head. I couldn't control the tears that had already formed in my eyes. I tried to leave but his next words glued me to the spot.
"Will you marry me, Amelia?" The seriousness in his voice wasn't hidden as he was now staring right into my eyes.
The feeling of anxiety I felt earlier suddenly subsided, giving way to utter shock and confusion.
