Chapter Thirty-Two The rest of the night passed without incident. William’s alarm rang at its usual time, and Celia turned over in bed, hoping for one last comforting hug before he leapt up in his usual manner to prepare for work. To her surprise, William stayed beneath the covers and merely grabbed his mobile from his nightstand, before rattling off a string of texts. Once he was done, he slid back over to her and wrapped his arms around her. “Who were you texting?” Celia asked, still unable to understand her husband’s actions. “I’ve just cancelled a couple of meetings I had lined up, and left a message that I will not be in today.” He replied, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
