Kali's POV The sun was warm against my skin, but it did nothing to burn away the heat that kept curling in my chest. It spread all around my body, and I knew for a fact that if I wasn't out in the gardens with the cool breeze rustling through my skin and dress at every chance, I would be sweating like a damned animal on the queue to be slaughtered. Right now, that didn't even sound remotely like a bad idea. Maybe, just maybe if I knew that death was imminent and definitely coming for me, perhaps it would help the dilemma I'd unwillingly found myself in. Every step I took through the marble halls and quiet gardens of the palace only brought me deeper into my own head, and I hated it.
